“Ok, this is a Sonic blaster, 3rd generation, standard space fleet issue. Very simple to use, just point aim and pull the trigger. she smiled a little before handing Luke the blaster, safety on, and moved behind him helping him aim it before flicking the safety off “Ok, deep breaths and when you think you’re ready pull the trigger.”
Luke took the gun listening to what she had to say about it he took a deep breath and nodded to her while taking aim at the target. He pictured it was a Slitheen and let the breath out. On the exhale he shot at the target however the shot went wide and hit the wall. The loud bang it emitted caused him to jump slightly and drop the weapon. It wasn’t that he’d not heard the sound of a firing weapon he’d just never felt the vibration the sound made. It had startled him, something very hard to do.
Bending down he began to apologize to her swiftly and then repeated the process three more times each time getting closer and closer to the center of the target until finally on the fourth time he hit the place the heart would be. He reflected that the heart might be somewhere else on a Slitheen but that was not important at the moment. He could ask Mr. Smith where a Slitheen heart was. He fired three more times each time hitting on or nearly on the circle over the target’s heart. “I did it!” He smiled proudly, he’d even gotten used to the vibrations of the gun. He turned to Ace to see if she approved.
Ace watched patiently as Luke figured out his way around the blaster. When Luke dropped the blaster Ace went to pick it up but stopped when he reached for it.
She waved a hand in a dismissing manner still smiling as he apologized for dropping the gun “It’s alright it happens.” she stepped back a little so he could have his space, instinctively mimicking his breathing patterns as he slowly made his way to a closer shot.
“I did it!” Ace smiled at Luke and nodded “Yes, yes you did, good job kid. Ready to move onto moving targets or would you like to continue with the stationary ones?”
"I am NOT A PROBLEM! I’m a…tactical consideration!"
“Yes, yes you did, good job kid. Ready to move onto moving targets or would you like to continue with the stationary ones?”
When the woman offered to let him have a go at the moving target he weighed the options carefully. While the stationary ones were good for practice he couldn’t deny that they did not offer him real world experience. For one thing no sane being would just stand there and let him shoot at them. For another he knew there was nothing for him to gain by continuing with these targets. So he gave her a nod and said.
“Sure I’ll try with the moving targets.” He gave her a smile as well and began to grow more excited with the prospect of getting to fight. He couldn’t wait to show his mother what he had learned. He’d finally be able to defend her and his friends with more than just his wits.

“Sure I’ll try with the moving targets.” Ace returned Lukes smile “Very good.” she reached into her pocket and pulled out a little fob, hitting a button and activating the motor that moved the targets around some.
There was a wrring noise and a bolt shot off to the left from the machine, Ace sighed “Bugger.” she looked at Luke and held up a finger “One second.” going over to the motor she quickly reached down next to it and started dismantling the motor some.
Finally finding the problem “Gotcha!” Ace started putting the motor back together. Wiping her hands on her pants leg she went back over to Luke “Ok, take two then.” Ace hit the button again and the targets started moving again.
"I am NOT A PROBLEM! I’m a…tactical consideration!"
Luke waited patiently for the woman to set the target up. She pulled something out her pocket and pointed it at the target. Luke figured it was probably an on-switch of some sort. He seemed to be right for there was a noise followed by a bolt shooting off the machine causing Luke to instinctively duck with a gasp.
“Bugger.” she looked at Luke and held up a finger “One second.”
While bugger was not the word Luke would have used it certainly seemed to cover the situation quite well. “Looks like you have a bolt loose.” He moved forward to help her but stopped when she seemed to be handling the situation quite alright without him. He grabbed the bolt that had been sent flying across the room he turned to give it back just in time to hear her start the machine again.
“Gotcha!” … “Ok, take two then.”
“Wait you didn’t put this bolt back in!” He cried out only to find the machine seemed to be working alright. “Was this bolt unnecessary then?” He looked at her inquisitively hoping the machine didn’t literally blow up in his face while he asked.

“Wait you didn’t put this bolt back in!” Ace frowned a little and blew air through her lips, “Na it’s fine…I’m sure it’s fine.”
“Was this bolt unnecessary then?” Ace reached up and rubbed the back of her head with her hand and sighed “No, I suspect not.” please don’t blow up, please don’t blow up. there was a little bit of a grinding noise from the machine which caused Ace to glare at the machine, not that it’d do anything, but the grinding seemed to work it’s self out. “Whenever you’re ready.”
"I am NOT A PROBLEM! I’m a…tactical consideration!"
Wondering vaguely why a machine would require an unnecessary bolt Luke frowned and looked at the small metal piece once more. Then figuring the woman would know if the machine wouldn’t work he sighed and leveled the gun once more at the target and began to fire at it. Feeling more and more confident and less apprehensive he got more adventurous and started moving with the thing instead of waiting for it to come into his sight. He grinned and didn’t care when he missed. “This is fun.”

Ace nodded as she watched, Luke had potential she’d give him that and he seemed willing to learn which was good as well. She smiled when he started to get more confident with the blaster and started to move with the machine “That a kid.”
“This is fun.” She lightly patted Luke on the shoulder “You’re a natural kid your parents must be real proud.”

“You’re a natural kid your parents must be real proud.”
Luke froze at those words and lowered the gun. “I only have a mum. She adopted me after I was activated by the Bane. I was artificially created.” He returned to firing at the target like he hadn’t just said the oddest thing in the world to someone he’d just met.
“But she loves me like a real mom does.” He smiled thinking of the pizza nights and lessons he’d had from Sarah Jane. He loved her so much, love was the first emotion he’d understood and it was thanks entirely to Sarah Jane.

Ace watched as Luke lowered the gun, uh oh she must have hit a nerve without intending to “I only have a mum. She adopted me after I was activated by the Bane. I was artificially created.” Ace smiled a little, saying softly “Nothing wrong with that.”
“But she loves me like a real mom does.” Nodding Ace placed a hand on Lukes shoulder and lightly squeezed it “That’s all that matters kid, that’s all that matters.” Ace and her mother had never been incredibly close, she often wondered if the woman she’d named her own daughter after was doing these days, if she was happy.
"I am NOT A PROBLEM! I’m a…tactical consideration!"
Luke sighed and turned to her. “I’m not ashamed of who I am. I just need the time to learn. For instance I’m actually only a few years old.” He looked at the target. “It confuses me sometimes what people want from me. I don’t like making mistakes.” He sighed again and stopped not wanting to say the wrong thing. Especially to the nice woman after she’d taught him something new.
“That’s all that matters kid, that’s all that matters.”
He nodded to her then set the gun aside having lost interest in the weapon. “Well thank you for the lesson.” He felt no need to comment on her other words they were self-explanatory after all. Son instead he turned to leave not knowing what else to do. “Do you want to go find somewhere to eat or something?” He wanted to be polite and offer her something as payment for what she’d done for him.

“Well thank you for the lesson.” Ace tilted her head to the side and bowed it a little in a ‘you’re welcome’ gesture.
“Do you want to go find somewhere to eat or something?” She couldn’t help but laugh a little, not trying to be mean just what he had said was so unexpected “Umm, yeah sure. Actually I know of this nice little, I guess you’d call it a greasy spoon or something like that.” Ace held up a hand to make sure he knew not to protest “I’m buying.”

Luke tilted his head in slight confusion when she spoke, he had no idea what the woman was talking about. He was just about to say he’d get his own meal when the woman must have sensed his plans to speak out, because she insisted on buying. Blushing profusely he dipped his head in acquiescence to her demand. “Alright then lead the way.” He smiled at her somewhat excited and nervous about this new adventure.

“Alright then lead the way.” Ace bowed her head a little for a second.
She led the way out of the building making sure Luke couldn’t get lost, reaching into her pocket Ace pulled out a pair of keys and hit a button causing a bike to roar to life “Do you have any complaints about riding a motorcycle?” if he did it would be fine they could probably walk to the place.
