Character Image:
Name: Pippa Pettywood
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Planet of Origin: Earth
Occupation: Temp in various secretarial occupations
Physical Description:
Standing at about 5'3”, Pippa is easily described as a petite. Her height adds to the childish appearance she has as her face is very youthful. She is very dramatic in terms of nonverbal communication, she doesn't do things subtly which makes it hard for her to tell a lie. It can be hard pulling through interviews when one looks nervous. Pippa's eyes are a cold dark brown, almost black. She has long dark brown hair with long bangs that are occasionally swept to the side. She likes to wear pigtails.
Pippa is very familiar with coats and jackets as she gets cold easily. She likes to dress up when in the hustle bustle of London but when she's at home she likes to snuggle up in her pine green hoodie. Secretly, she's very comfortable with being barefoot.
Personality:
Pippa has a very active imagination. If she's not day dreaming she's imagining the worst case scenario. It's always the worst case scenario. Floor boards creak? Could break from underneath her feet, sending her falling in such a way that she would probably break her back and be paralyzed for life. Drop a bottle of shaving cream? Well hit the deck because she's envisioning it exploding with fragments of metal flying everywhere. Always imagining the worst she's definitely a candidate for pantophobia(the fear of everything)but has not seen a professional about it. Do you really think she could sit in a waiting room full of crazy people? Any one of them could be a psychopath about to blow up the building. Her friends hate spending the night at her house because it is well lit 24/7.
She's at her worst when she's alone. No one to distract her from her frightening thoughts. No one to rationalize the situation for her. But then again, other people like to do crazy things like walking city streets at night or watch horror films.
Sure, she'll try to play it cool. But it's always obvious.
Pippa is also very clumsy. Perhaps its due to her constant trembling in fear or maybe she really doesn't have an ounce of grace. Plates go crashing, she stubs her toes on a daily basis, her arms have burns from using the oven, and she's lost count of the glass doors she's run into.
She's also a cute person. Inanimate objects have personalities to her, some frightening and some friendly. From her shoes to the stars, she will sometimes even have pretend conversations with them. The man on the moon is a personal favorite.
When she finds the time, she's a bit of a romantic. She can talk to boys as easily as she can with girls but despite her daydreams of romance and love, if a guy wants a relationship with her, she will run away. She likes to pretend its real and knows its real for other people. But it couldn't really be real for her, right?
History:
The Pettywood family was one of those loud families. Christmases were crowded living rooms with practically no room for the latest family member. Pippa's immediate family housed four children, including herself, in Wexford, Ireland.
Pippa's oldest sister was actually a half-sister and is six years older than Pippa.
So Pippa is her mother's second child and her father's first. Pippa also has a younger brother and an even younger sister.
As a child, Pippa already was very imaginative, but her imagination was very dark. Monsters under her bed, in her closet, footsteps in the attic, and every thunderstorm was a potential death sentence. Her older sister seemed to be fearless, however, and often times when Pippa felt embarrassed to run to her parent's bed, she'd run to her sister's.
Pippa adored her little brother. When her older sister was busy being a teenager, her brother was dying for attention. So she and her brother had lots of adventures. Getting the mail was a job for secret agents, their closet was a time machine, and the countless forts they built out of sheets left their bedrooms in a constant mess.
Her youngest sister was really the baby of the family and by the time she was old enough to join in on the games, Pippa was focused on becoming a teenager.
When Pippa turned thirteen, her father got a great job opportunity working for the BBC in London. Naturally he took it and uprooted the family. This changed a lot of things for Pippa, not only was she trying to figure out who she was, she lost all of her friends. Her older sister, who was nineteen, decided to stay in Ireland, so for the younger children it felt like the family was splitting apart.
London is larger than Wexford and Pippa felt very small in her new school. Her younger siblings clung to her but Pippa wanted to make friends as fast as possible. She and her younger siblings started to argue and until after she moved out as an adult they never really got along.
Eventually Pippa found a group of friends and became best friends with one girl in particular. She was a very loud individual who was very fond of pranks and pranked Pippa very often, keeping her nerves on edge throughout high school. It was like it was her mission to desensitize Pippa but it never worked out that way. Ouija boards, horror films, ghost stories, informing Pippa that the alien hoaxes, especially the ones that happened around Christmas, were actually real. It was fine because all in all, despite the practical jokes, they had a lot of fun together.
Pippa graduated and went straight to the university where she studied creative writing. Currently she's living on her own, in and out of temp jobs as she tries to jot down her first book. Which isn't coming along very well at all.
Additional medical information:
If Pippa went to the doctor she would be diagnosed with Pantophobia, which can make her feel physically sick, problems with speech and thought clarity, the feeling of going mad, and anxiety attacks.
Role Play Sample:
The smell of onion and basil sautéing saturated the air. The crackle and popping of hot oil was in competition with the television set that was playing for no particular audience. The television was finally in competition with Pippa, who was stirring her sizzling onions while having a conversation with her older sister.
"Oh no, I'm just cooking diner, I can talk." she said, pausing to blow hair out of her face, "What's up?"
She was quiet for a moment, completely distracted with the conversation she was having. Too distracted to notice a small blob of fat wander into the room, he had previously escaped her neighbor's dog. The blob of fat looked up at Pippa, beady black eyes staring curiously at Pippa.
Pippa rapped her wooden spoon against the pain as she reached for more basil. The blob of fat lost interest and wandered over to the television set.
"You're getting married?!" Pippa gasped, completely shocked. "Oh my g-"
Pippa's attention was stolen by a blood curdling scream. She whirled around to see a mutilated zombie reaching out on her television. Her sister demanded to know what happened but her words fell on deaf ears. It wasn't until the scene changed to a woman screaming for her life that she realized it was all just a show. Four wide strides and she picked up the remote and switched the television off.
"Sorry, I must have left my..." Pippa froze. She had just been watching Super Size vs Super Skinny. No horror movie should have been playing, "I think someone is in my flat."
She hung up and immediately started calling the police but before she finished dialing a small figure crawled out from under the sofa and looked up at her. Pippa looked at it in silence for a split second then as the smoke detector went off, Pippa threw her phone at the it. Screams that her neighbors were all too familiar with filled the halls.
