The Doctor hesitated. Exploring on his own without Peri and a looming chance he could meet Mel on the horizon was about as welcoming as a bad breath. He looked over his shoulders from left to right and upon knowing his TARDIS was vacant he flicked a switch. The Time Rotor roared to life.
"Seems kind of vacant, doesn't it?" He called; allowing his voice to echo. A satisfied smirk emerged. "No one present to hear something aboslutely clever that I could possibly accomplish in a period of about five seconds but oh... someone has to hear about it..."
Somewhere on a beach in Time, the TARDIS begun to appear in surrounds of seaweed and old logs as the tide rolled out to sea.
It was a brisk Spring morning, the sun still rising in a cloudless sky, a chilly dawn breeze stirring the air. A perfect morning for an invigorating jog along the beach - and the perfect time for it, thought the young woman in the navy blue leotard and shorts with white leg-warmers who ran along the loose pebbles. Really, she couldn't think why more people weren't awake at this time. A good hour of exercise was a far healthier way to wake up before work than a nasty cup of coffee, and the world would be a much better place if more people realized it, she mused.
The tide was almost out, and some way behind, the stilts of the pier were exposed, stretching out into a gently undulating soup of brown seaweed and sticks. Drawing a deep breath of the fresh salt air, Mel's gaze swept the tideline ahead of her, passing across the washed-up logs, a 1960s police box, a few faded buoys and a tangle of net and bladderwrack.
Something tweaked at her attention, then slid away like a pebble on ice. It wasn't until her eyes were once again focused ahead on the skyline of the town and the dome of the Pavilion that her eidetic memory returned to that sight, and she came to a halt.
