Eve stopped in front of the London public library and looked up at its sign, and the many windows above it. She pulled her scarf tighter around her neck and walked in through the big double doors. She quickly walked past the main desk, and up to the history section. She quickly skimmed the books in search for a book that she hadn't already read, which was hard sense she had read almost all the books in this section. Maybe next week i'll start on the science area. Eve ran her finger over a leather bound book that looked like it could be a hundred years old, she gently lifted it off its shelf and read the cover. London through the ages. Might as well give it a chance. Eve put the book in the crevice of her arm and walked out of the aisle and towards her reading space.
After about fifteen minuets of walking Eve arrived at a area located at the very back of the library, where almost nobody visited. She walked over to the corner and sat down leaning her back on the wall. She opened up the first page and started reading.

Rose was off doing whatever she liked to do these days. John wasn't too sure what, and he wasn't sure he wanted to ask either. If he thought too hard about Rose, then he started to notice the slight rift that had started to grow between them, and it started to make him nauseous.
No, best not to think about that.
So John opted to distract himself. Libraries were good for that. Loads and loads of books, which was lovely and sad because it made him miss Donna and twisted his heart in a nasty uncomfortable feeling.
This library had enough people he wasn't likely to trip up and forget it wasn't the Library. John still kept out of the shadows though, idly skimming a history book - the inaccuracies were always good for amusement - he kept part of his attention to his surroundings as well, noticing with some curiousity the little blonde who had joined the area of the library he was sitting in.
Eve was already half way done with her book, when she noticed a man in his early thirties enter her aisle. He seemed to be skimming the books, looking for something to read. Eve studied the man up and down, watching his actions. He didn't like shadows, and he seemed to laugh at some of the history he read. Time Traveler, she thought, That would explain a lot. Eve returned her attention to her book, deciding to ignore the anomaly in her aisle. Its not like he would talk to a kid anyway, she tried that before they usually laugh in your face, or politely tell you to go find your parents. It got rather annoying.
Contrary to Evelyn's assumptions, John was both easily bored and a people person. Meaning he would definitely talk to her. Just as soon as he finished skimming this book. It strangely seemed to be getting information correct most didn't, curious that.
Oh. Misshelved historical fiction.
The Doctor very carefully did not laugh out loud at that. It was hardly appropriate in a library.
Deciding to keep the book for now, John plopped himself into a chair across from the little blonde.
"And what brings you to the library on such a nice day?" he asked curiously. Nosy was one of his main character traits.
"And what brings you to the library on such a nice day?" he asked curiously. Eve looked up from her book. People usually didn't talk to her so she didn't really know what to say to that. Eve eyed him suspiciously, " The same as everyone else in here. I'm reading." She looked down at the book in his hand. " Finally find a book that doesn't have historical mistakes in it?" She assumed that that was what he had, just like she assumed that he was a time traveler. If he wasn't then this was going to be another awkward conversation that usually ended with them calling the police, and her fleeing the scene quickly. You have no idea how much that actually happened.
Eve took the time to study the man more closely. His hair was very interesting, very anti-gravitational... He was also pretty tall, well taller then she was anyway. But that wasn't saying much. She decided it was best not to let her guard down, for all she knew he could be a murderer or kidnapper... Probably not, but still.
The blonde was squinting at him with suspicion or irritation, possibly both.
"Careful," he teased. "Your face might get stuck that way."
He wiggled his eyebrows a little, smiling when she answered his question despite her obvious reservations.
" Finally find a book that doesn't have historical mistakes in it?"
Unlike most people, John didn't even blink at her question. His first response was to eye her just a little closer. She was smart, he could tell that much already. Possibly even brilliant like Zoe and Nyssa were, equally possibly just as isolated from normal society as Zoe and Adric were but there was no telling. Sometimes prodigies fit in better than others, but judging by the fact she definitely hadn't seemed to expect him coming over... John would wager she didn't spend a whole lot of time with others socially.
"Ironically, it's a fiction book. I wonder if the author realizes which bit is fiction and which is fact?" the Doctor answered with a grin, inviting her in on the joke she seemed to already understand.
"Ironically, it's a fiction book. I wonder if the author realizes which bit is fiction and which is fact?" the Doctor answered with a grin, inviting her in on the joke she seemed to already understand. Eve looked at the man with no emotion visible on her face. She got the joke, she just didn't think it was very funny. That was one of the curses her intelligence gave her, she couldn't always see the humor in things, which didn't help much with her social life. " Well not everyone has the ability to Time Travel." She looked at the man more closely to figure out if he was a human with one of those vortex manipulators, or something else. " Oh now I get it. Your a Time Lord. Well that explains everything." Eve looked away from the man and returned to her book.
" Well not everyone has the ability to Time Travel."
"Good thing too," the Doctor quipped. "Most people who have the ability are right stodgy. So against interfering with the timeline that they never left their homes."
He paused, reflecting on how well that had turned out for Gallifrey. Which was to say, not well at all.
"Then you get the Agency and the Tesselecta, all trying to change and tweak the timeline as they see fit. Really, it's no wonder the history books are always wrong. History changes too much to keep up."
John wasn't going to ask how she knew or even what the girl knew. Her intelligence was obvious, reminding him once again of young Zoe Heriot aboard the Wheel in Space. She was a bit more open to new ideas; the young usually were.
" Oh now I get it. Your a Time Lord. Well that explains everything." Eve looked away from the man and returned to her book.
He waited a breath, just long enough for the girl to look away before making a buzzing nose.
"Ehhhhh, wrong. You're very clever my dear, but I can almost guarantee you've never met anyone like me before. Good guess though."
Lounging back, completely ignoring the book as he'd finished it, John pulled out a banana from his pocket.
"Would you like one? They're rich in potassium and I find quite tasty besides."
"Ehhhhh, wrong. You're very clever my dear, but I can almost guarantee you've never met anyone like me before. Good guess though."
Wrong!? How could she be wrong? She looked up at the man again, looking closely at him again. If he wasn't Time Lord then what was he? Problems like this frustrated Eve, She needed to figure out the answer or it would literally drive her insane until then.
"Would you like one? They're rich in potassium and I find quite tasty besides."
Eve looked at the Banana in his hand. Why he had one in his pocket, she might never know..
" No thank you. If your not Time Lord what are you? Are you a highbrid of some kind half Time Lord half something else...."
Eve took a second to think If he was going to be half time lord of something then what would that other half be? Oh this was just driving her insane not knowing! She threw her book on the table and leaned back in her chair glaring at the half time lord.
" You are a problem aren't you. Oh this is just driving me crazy! What are you!?"
Eve chewed on a strand of her hair as she looked at the enigma in front of her.
The little girl was glaring so fiercely at him that John had to rub his forehead and make sure she hadn't burnt him any. Still, no need to be rude! So he had cheerfully offered her a banana, only to be brushed off and considered a puzzle still.
Are you a highbrid of some kind half Time Lord half something else...."
"Not exactly," John replied, still cheerful. Riling her shouldn't be this much fun, but it wasn't as if he had asked to be analyzed, and he rather suspected she was as lonely as he was in a way anyhow.
What are you!?
"A person, of course. Same as you, except, you know, not really. I've got a better question, who are you?"
" Evelyn Porter." Eve felt like she could trust whoever this person was. She stopped looking at him like he was some sort of computer puzzle that needed to be figured out, and stared down at the floor instead.
" Sorry if I was rude." Evelyn knew that she must of been incredibly rude to this stranger. She just couldn't help it sometimes, it really was a damper on her social life. She looked back up at the stranger, but this time with a warmer look in her eyes. Might as well talk to him, as he's already here.
"Now, who are you?" She probably could of passed all the stress of guessing who he was, if she had just asked him instead. Sometimes Evelyn was too smart, and she looked over the easiest ways to do things. She brought her legs up into her chair, and sat crisscrossed looking at the kind stranger in front of her.
The young girl gave her name - Evelyn, reminded him a bit of one Evelyn Smythe he had travelled with lifetimes ago, except for the many ways she was nothing like that Evelyn at all of course - and the Doctor smiled warmly.
"Nah, don't worry about it," he reassured her. "I'm rude too. Rude and not ginger. It's a.." he glanced sideways, flicking his fingers briefly for the correct words before continuing, "a personality flaw. Like hubris. It always gets me in the end."
The madly brilliant smile clearly said the Doctor didn't care all too much about that really.
"Name's John Noble." He winked, shutting the book he had been halfheartedly reading before. He'd finished his banana already, now his hands needed something else to fixate on. "Also known as the Doctor.. in some circles. It's sort of complicated...."
A quick shrug.
"How did you learn about Time Lords, Evelyn? Do you travel? Or just a particularly dull book?"

Eve smiled warmly at the man when he told her his personality flaw. She was beginning to like this man, even if she was incredibly rude to him in the beginning . “John’s a… nice name.” It was actually very common, but she was trying to make up for being mean to him earlier by giving compliments… which weren't really her thing.
She tilted her head in thought for a second, trying to remember where she had learned about the Time Lords. “It just came to mind. I’m sure I've heard of them somewhere, or read about them. And I don’t travel.” Now she believed it was her turn to ask a question about the mysterious ‘John Nobel’. “ So who is the Doctor?” She knew that it was him.. But she also got a feeling that there was more then met the eye about John Nobel.
