His pale blue eyes stared at the page he had been reading, at least he was reading until he started staring at the pages that were in front of him. He enjoyed reading the book, The Time Machine, but for some reason he was having a hard time staying focused on about anything. shaking his head the Time Lord took a deep breath and looked back to his book that looked as though it was obviously well read as the binding on the spine was weak and frayed. The Mentor smiled lightly as he read one last page before looking up from the book for a moment due to a police car zipping past the park.
Shrugging lightly he looked back to the book, the police car with it's sirens wailing was nothing out of the ordinary.. So there was no need to follow the car. He looked back down to the book once again, frowning lightly for a reason he did not know or notice.
Lifting his head again he looked around, closing the book and pressing it to his thigh as he strained his neck to look around him, finding what it was that he was sensing. His pale blue eyes settled on a woman that was directly to his left. He squinted some in confusion, then looked around again, she just could not be one of his kind. Looking back to her once again he saw that she looked troubled, leaning on the bench railing he finally spoke up, "Are you alright?"
She had been sitting there at that fountain for that past several hours now, staring at the water almost blankly, occasionally trailing her fingers into the water. She couldn't explain why, but she felt an overwhelming sense of confusion and sadness. As she stared at the water, she could catch the occasional glimpse of her reflection. Pale green eyes and coppery red hair. She'd changed again but.. she couldn't remember why. And.. Her TARDIS was missing.
Now her TARDIS was still alive, she could sense it, but the link felt faint, and that was, perhaps, what was saddening her. She was so caught up in her own inner musings that she never sense the Time Lord on the park bench, just a few meters behind her, and until he spoke, she'd been completely oblivious that anyone was nearby.
As it were, his low but calming voice startled her and she lifted her head to gaze at him. She was obviously dumbfounded for a moment as she blinked at the man several times before she finally answered. “Oh.. Yes I think so. Just a little out of sorts at the moment.” Her head tilted as she brushed the red hair over her shoulder and her hands went to smooth down the hem of a pale blue sun dress.
Those pale green eyes finally met with his and she held her breath as her senses finally kicked in. Another Time Lord. She took a hesitant step back, her fingers wringing at the hem of her dress, She seemed uneasy.
“Oh.. Yes I think so. Just a little out of sorts at the moment.”
Ko'an got to his feet, "I.. think it is a bit more than that." He did not exactly want to say what it was that he was sensing, nor that he had just read her mind to find out what was bothering her. He put his book into the pocket of his frock coat and adjusted his scarf. That was, he was going to when he saw her take a hesitant step away from him, "Oh no no! I'm not going to harm you sweet heart."
The Mentor took a step towards her, his hands out some, trying not to look dangerous to her. He could see how scared she was. He hoped that the Time Lady could not sense anything about him, or read his mind, "I promise that I will not harm you." He softened his naturally deep voice, trying to sound less scary to her. He took another step, a small one. Trying not to move to fast. She seemed ready to jump and run if he made the wrong move towards her.
Taryn visibly flinched as he took a step closer and took a step back to match, trying to maintain the distance between them. “Don't!” she said softly as her arms coiled around her shoulders as if fighting off a chill. “Don't touch me.” and she lowered her head, her soft ringlets of long red hair falling into her face and she bit her lip. She didn't know what to do. This new body seemed to thin and frail. And she was so tired, she didn't know if she could fight him off if she had to. Could she even run?
“Oh, No no! I'm not going to harm you, sweetheart.”
Taryn looked up at him, a bit skeptically. She'd just finished regenerating and she wasn't keen on repeating the process any time soon. “Just... please...” she whimpered softly, her fingers curling into the flesh of her arms as she took another uneasy step back. Her hearts were pounding in her throat. She was not normally the fearful type. Normally the only thing that got a reaction out of her like this were Daleks. She frowned, somewhat disappointed. Perfect.. Just perfect, this regeneration was a flighty little mouse, afraid of her own shadow.
“I Promise.. I will not harm you.”
“How do I know I can trust you? How do you know you can trust me? This is a new body, whole new personality. What's to stop me from harming you?” she replied. Her tone easily implied that she wasn't likely to even have the heart to spray a wasp to kill it.
The Mentor was not sure as to why the Time Lady was so afraid of him. All he wanted to do was to help her. She appeared to him as lost, confused and hurt. He did not need to read her mind to figure that out, as he can clearly see it all on her face as she questioned him. It appeared as though something happened before she regenerated, something that has left her frightened. Ko’an froze in place seeing that he approaching her was just making her more frightened than what she already is.
“How do I know I can trust you? How do you know you can trust me? This is a new body, whole new personality. What's to stop me from harming you?”
Ko’an shook his head, “I don’t know how to get you to trust me. But I can see that you have been hurt.. that something has left you deathly afraid. I also know that you cannot go walking around Earth or the universe like that.” He paused for a moment, “I can tell that you do not want to cause harm by the tone of your voice. I will not lay a hand on you, but I’m asking you to let me help you.” He slipped his coat off, seeing that she was in nothing but a dress which will not be enough to protect her from the cold weather of the day, “First.. Please put this on. Since you have just regenerated you will be more vulnerable to catching illnesses.” The Time Lord continued to hold it out in a way to tell her that he will not put it back on or that he will allow her to refuse it. Even if he had to walk over and throw it onto her shoulders he will do that; he hoped that it did not have to go to that though.
She stared up at him with obvious hesitation before looking to the coat he presented to her. She closed her eyes with a sigh before looking down at her hands. They were still letting off a faint residual glow. She wasn't completely done regenerating. With obvious hesitation and a weak sigh, she slipped into the coat. It was warm but felt heavy and she found herself leaning against him, her forehead resting against his chest. she was so tired. She needed to rest so that she could fully and properly regenerate.
"I have to find my TARDIS." she replied weakly before looking up at him. "I.. Have to.." but her words cut off and her eyes rolled back and she collapsed against him, her fingers curled tightly against the front of his shirt.
Ko'an watched as Taryn sighed before slipping into his coat. It did seem to drown her but then she was not quite done regenerating just yet, and he did not want some human making a report and having an innocent Time Lady taken away by Torchwood or UNIT. Well she certainly was not finished since she should have been able to bear the weight of the coat.. but no because she was leaning her head against his chest. The Time Lord was not sure exactly how he was meant to react.. it's been a long while since he had showed kindness to anyone. What does a bloke do who has a woman leaning against him? Well it certainly was not standing around as though he is clueless.. So he gently placed his arms around her after adjusting the coat on her a little bit.
"We will find your TARDIS." Although Ko'an was just not sure of where to start looking first. He does not know if her TARDIS stays in one shape or changes like his.. His own TARDIS even sometimes shapes into objects that will be impossible to get into so he would find himself waiting around for hours or days before being able to get back into his ship. He looked down to her but.. for once for a long time perhaps he panicked as her eyes rolled back into her head and collapsed against him. His grip tightened a little bit to keep her from slipping to the ground.
Holding onto the unconscious Time Lady he looked around, what was he going to do? He thought that perhaps he could leave her in the care of someone else.. but.. then a look at her and he suddenly did not want to do that. After maybe a few seconds of thinking he gently picked her up, the same way that a man would hold his to be bride.. or yeah.. something like that. Ko'an did notice some people giving looks, but what exactly could he say, "She passed out from the excitement. No need to worry. she will be alright.." The Time Lord was not even sure if that was the right thing to say, but it worked since people started to stop looking at them. Ko'an walked over to where he had left his TARDIS.. but there was a slight problem.. it changed into the shape of a bush.. how was he meant to get himself and the lady into his ship? Ko'an sighed in frustration, "Right when I need you.. You take the shape of a bush.."
Now it was time to think up a different place to go before some alien search party came looking. After much looking around he decided that perhaps finding a hotel or something that was more comfortable than the grass would be a good idea. So he carried her not directly across the street. But rather to a nice hotel that was down the street a ways. Perhaps a couple blocks away from the park, it would probably be the last place that anyone would go looking for a couple of Time Lords.. Hopefully. He paid the person behind the counter first, who was kind enough to guide them to the room and open the door for him.. as well as holding it open and to make sure that Taryn was alright, "She will be alright.. there was a lot of excitement earlier and she fainted." He could only guess how the woman took that.. which was probably one of the obvious ways she took the term 'excitement' as the woman smiled brightly and walked out of the room.
Ko'an watched the woman exit, closing the door quietly. Slowly he looked back down to the Time Lady who he had not exactly know the name of. He was aware that he would have been able to simply read her mind for it.. but who knows if she was one of those who would know that her mind was being read. He lightly placed his hand on her forehead. A light fever.. so he walked to the bathroom to get a lightly wet cloth before returning and placing it on her forehead. What could he do now? His options were limited since he was not able to take her into his TARDIS..
