Molly learned so many things at once that she felt dizzy.
First the man she was with not only could be considered a deserter, but that he was listed among the dead--among the dead where?
Second, she was still reguarded with a high degree of suspicion.
But the third blew her mind to pieces as thoroughly as if she had a bomb dropped on her head.
Molly's brain raced through the implications in a few seconds and came to the almost terrifying conclusion that the man who stood before her now was the father of well...everything. He was practically the father of Western Civilization when you really broke things down. He brought Christ to the gentiles, and Christianity spread throughout the world, becoming the main religion of Rome before her demise, the single light in the Dark Ages, and the inspiration for art and sciences for hundreds of years after. The wars fought in its name shaped the Europe she grew up in.
Her eyes dilated and her breathing quickened to the point where she thought she might faint.
Molly stood there for a moment, at a loss for words and searching her mind desperately for the correct way to greet an Apostle. Her Irish Catholic upbringing demanded no less from her.
She sank to her knees at the man's feet, crossing herself twice with her head bowed in reverence.
"Most Holy Father, I... your servant is honored to meet you."
John was in shock by the fact that Paul…THE PAUL was in front of him with a look of an everyday man. He looked so simple, an older man with the look of calm and cool about him. Yes there did seem to be a bit of strength about him, like he could command a room just by standing in it, but at that moment it wasn’t the case. He looked so welcoming and seemed to be genuinely happy that there were visitors that he didn’t know arriving. Atleast, that was until Molly fell to her knees and started worshipping him. John knew about the Catholics and they’re beliefs about saints and such, but John had not even thought about this moment or that he would be meeting Paul at all. So he DEFFINATLY was not ready for Molly to fall to her knees and start calling Paul Holy Father. The shock he felt however was nothing compared to everyone else around them. Dea seemed to look at her then back at him with a look of ‘what the hell is she doing?’ While everyone else just gaped at her. It was a bit before Paul broke the silence and walked over to Molly, kneeling down, taking her hand and helping her up.
“My dear, why would you call me Holy Father?” He seemed to look at her with what seemed to be confusion and amusement. He wasn’t annoyed like John thought he might be, instead he seemed to realize there was a misunderstanding or something. “ I am just a man who spreads the words of Yeshua and Elohiem, nothing more.” He looked up at John as he patted her hand and led her into the house chuckling and beckoning them all to fallow. O yeah this was going to be weird.
Molly didn't know how to respond to the gentle touch that was meant to bring her back to her feet. Her brain still tried to process everything that had happened since she'd taken her little tumble through the vortex. The headache was still there and if she concentrated enough on it she felt her focus returning. The Apostle didn't seem angry, if anything he seemed embarrassed that she would think of him as anything other than a common man.
But he wasn't a common man. All her life she'd been taught that the man standing next to her was as close to divinity as mankind could get. Yet here he was, holding her hand as gently as he would a lost child.
"I ah...forgive me, Father."
Her eyes darted around as she felt her cheeks burn with color. There were simply no words. Either she argued the point that he was an apostle or she backed down and tried to hide. Right now hiding felt the better option.
