The Doctor had a problem. A huge, universe might blow up problem. He might of, accidentally, left Amy and Clara alone in the counsel room. Just for a second, he didn't think anything could of happened in that lapse of time. But evidently he was wrong. So now, he sat on the railing, listening to Amy and Clara argue about, who knows what. He didn't know what to do, this had never happened before. Usually his companions got along great with each other. Well.. except for Adric and Tegan, but then again, he didn't even get along with Tegan.
He looked between Amelia and Clara, trying to think of something they both might enjoy. Anything to stop the arguing, he was already getting a massive headache. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it deciding to think of what to say before getting involved. No telling how loud these two could be yelling together. Maybe putting the girl who waited and the impossible girl in the same room wasn't a good idea. But then again, what did the Doctor ever do that was a 'good' idea?
Amy Pond looked at the little upstart, fire tempered, new girl in the TARDIS. She didn’t like her one bit, especially since she seemed to think the Doctor was hers! Who did she think she was? I’m the girl who waited! I’m the one the Doctor came back for! Heck the Doctor restarted the universe to save me, well okay that one was for the entire universe but he said goodbye to me last, and it was special. So with a smug grin she glared at the woman and snarled. “I’m his best friend! I’ve snogged him.” She didn’t mention she also happened to be his mother in law. That was, as the Doctor called it, a big ball of time wimey mess, and not exactly going to win her points in this battle.
She looked at the Doctor and quirked a single brow in distaste at this situation, she was not pleased with him either. “So you leave me to the Angels and then take off to find a new girl? And this one looks not at all fit to tour the galaxy and fight aliens!” She sized up the girl and resisted the urge to scoff. “She looks like someone Prisoner Zero dragged in.” She pointedly walked over to the Doctor and stood beside him. This was her domain to, she’d waited almost sixteen years to journey with the Doctor, she wasn’t going to give it up to this upstart. “Raggedy Man I crossed time lines and angered some ugly Angels to get back to you, you’re not getting rid of me this easily.”
Oh, this was just great! Clara barely got any words in edgewise when this ginger headed jerk stomped in, ordering the Doctor about and insulting her! And snogging? Really?! "Oh? Best friend? Did you jump into his timeline at his grave and get ripped apart across all of time to save his life? And for the record, I have snogged him, and it was fantastic!" Wait, that came out wrong... Geez. This girl was bringing out an ugly side to her.
"And who the hell is Prisoner Zero?!" She didn't like the inside stories with the Doctor that Amy kept bringing up. It was strange to be on the outside after all of her time being the one who had seen it all. "He won't have to get rid of you. Maybe I'll do it for him! I haven't risked my life fighting Angels, Silence, Daleks, Cybermen, Wi-Fi robots, Great Intelligence, Ice Warrior generals, and all of time and space to get tossed to the side by some shouty red head!"
The Doctor glanced up at Amy, as she gave him ‘the look’. Sure she was just raising an eyebrow, but that single eyebrow raise meant that all hell would break loose… well, more hell would break loose and the Doctor was going to be stuck in the middle of it. “I didn't…. You chose too… Clara’s not... I’m not getting rid of you.” He was about to say something else, when Clara started her side of the argument. “Clara! Violence is never the answer.” He was pretty sure it wouldn't get to that point… but then again he was dealing with two highly unstable women.
He smiled slightly at the shouty red head remark, then quickly hid it with a disapproving frown. The Doctor looked at his shoes again, feeling a little put out with their arguing. He was hoping they would get along perfectly, they were both loud, stubborn, and liked to shop. Did he just sum up most of female companions? He took a deep breath, and looked up again to face Amy and Clara. This would end now. “Enough!” The Doctor shouted with as much force as possible, hearing his echo reverberate throughout the control room.
“Can you two stop arguing for a minute, and talk about this reasonably. With less yelling.” The Doctor usually wasn't the argumentative type, and he certainly didn’t raise his voice unless his was angry. Not that he was necessarily angry, he had just had enough of their petty argument. He closed his eyes for a second, to calm down a little before saying anything more. “How bout, we take a little trip? Zetaboliz three should be having they’re annual Mythology festival. Sound like fun?” Without waiting for a response, he walked over to the council and started putting in the coordinates. With a little more force, then was necessary.
"Oh? Best friend? Did you jump into his timeline at his grave and get ripped apart across all of time to save his life? And for the record, I have snogged him, and it was fantastic!"
Amy glared at the woman in front of her. However the venom in her glare wasn’t all there anymore, instead now a sort of hurt had replaced her former anger. The Doctor had replaced her, had moved on from her. The girl who waited was now the girl who’d been replaced. She had to force herself to not cry, to not run to the Doctor and beg him not to forget her.
"And who the hell is Prisoner Zero?!"
She looked at the woman and hoped her voice didn’t come out broken. “Prisoner Zero is a multiform alien who lived in my house; he watched me grow up then took over the forms of several humans. Yes he was as creepy as that just sounded. When the Doctor showed up the Atraxi, giant spaceship flying eyeballs, nearly burned the Earth to kill him. The Doctor got him captured.” She felt relief when her voice came out as normal and not broken with the hopelessness she had thought she’d never feel in the presence of her Doctor.
That hurt, that hurt real deep, he had replaced her after all. Like a wounded animal she lashed out at Clara. “I’ve faced off with Angels and Daleks! I got zapped back in time by aliens! My daughter, River Song, got stolen from me and raised by the leader of the Silence! You’re not the only one who’s been on adventures with him.”
She wanted to call the girl a lot of things but the name the girl called her stopped her in her tracks. Had it not come from the woman in front of her, had it not been directed at her she might have laughed at the name. “Shouty red head? Shouty red head! You’ve got a lot of nerve! You know I am done with this. I don’t even know why I’m still talking to you.” It was true, but what she really meant was she didn’t know why she was still here. Amy felt a cold knot forming in her stomach. She had found her Doctor, she had defied the universe, left Rory behind never to return to him, probably ticked off a good bit of Angels doing it, and found herself the second best. And with that realization she felt a bit of her heart break. A single tear slid down her cheek.
“I didn't…. You chose too… Clara’s not... I’m not getting rid of you.”
Amy couldn’t even answer the man she had missed the most. The man she should have chosen. She looked back at the man; her anger had been replaced by desperate loss. She thought of the girl in front of her and the man on the other side. She then wiped the loss and the longing from her mind and then let her voice take back its normal tone. “I shouldn’t have. I should have listened to you. I regret that choice and wish I could go back in time and change it.” She then turned to the woman. The venom sprang to her tone as soon as she saw her. “You aren’t his only friend. I waited my whole life to be his companion. So don’t you dare think you could ever remove him from my life! I made the mistake of leaving him once. You won’t force that choice on me. The only person in this ship, well beside the ship herself, that can send me from him is him.” She had decided that the Doctor was going to have to send her away in order for her to leave.
“Enough!”
Amy nearly jumped out of her skin at the tone in the Doctor’s voice. She had only ever heard that tone a few times since she met the Doctor and never had it been directed at her. She fell silent immediately and turned to him. She couldn’t even apologize. She had never felt scared of the Doctor, she had only ever felt safe around him, but right now she was scared.
“Can you two stop arguing for a minute, and talk about this reasonably. With less yelling.”
Amy looked at the woman next to her and then felt ashamed. She realized she had been acting like an immature brat this entire time and she was embarrassed beyond measure. She hung her head slightly and said in a soft voice. “Yes Doctor. I’m sorry.”
“How bout, we take a little trip? Zetaboliz three should be having they’re annual Mythology festival. Sound like fun?”
She jumped again as he slammed the button and was sure the TARDIS would not be pleased at all. “Yes that sounds great Doctor.” She then took a deep breath and looked back to the woman and did something she never thought she’d do, she apologized. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I was being very rude, and very immature. I’ve just come a long way to find the Doctor again. I went through a lot to find him. Can we try this again?” She looked at the woman and hoped she’d say yes. “I’m Amy Pond by the way.” She attempted a smile but it came across more as a grimace. She just wasn’t used to this sort of thing.
Maybe she got a little touchy... But then again she was having to share her Doctor with some girl from his past. How fun...
Amy at least deserved a chance. Not that she had been given one when Amy had come into the TARDIS. But, she was willing to let it be, for the Doctor. She was willing to give the shouty redhead a chance. "I'm sorry, too. I got a little defensive. My name is Clara Oswald. I met the Doctor when he appeared on my doorstep in monk robes acting like I knew him. How about you?"
