"Note to self, never date a girl who's ideal first date is watching the cartoon Alice in Wonderland.I really was about to go insane." Owen was driving home from a date, a not so good date, and his mind was whirling through it. The girl was named Alice, so he supposed the movie idea would have been cute if they both weren't older than school kids.
The date had started out with a nice dinner and a ride to his apartment. When they got their he had turned his communicator off as usual. However when the girl wouldn't shut up about her favorite movie and worse wouldn't let him kiss her he turned the communicator back on. For the first time ever he actually wanted Torchwood to need him. Things got even worse when the girl pulled the movie out of her purse.I mean come on who carries a movie around with them? He had watched it with her, all the while just hoping the Rift would spit out an alien who eats bad dates.
As soon as the movie had ended he drove her home saying he was needed on the night shift at the hospital. He didn't bother walking her to her door and drove off as soon as she was out of the car. "I pity the man who marries that girl."
His reveries were cut short when he noticed something odd. His music had cut out, his car had stopped, and he was staring at the Rift. Only he hadn't been driving towards the Rift, he'd been driving home. He quickly got out his communicator and dialed Torchwood. "Owen to Torchwood...major Rift activity. Owen to...." He never finished the sentence when the Rift flared and he found himself whisked away. Where he landed was even weirder, he was watching himself attack Jack in the graveyard.
"Must have gone back in time to when Jack recruited me. Why though?" He reached for his communicator only to find it not in his pocket. "Shoot not good." He ducked behind a shrub when the two men he had been watching walked by and shook his head. This was not good, he had to stay hidden and hope the team had got his message. Back in the present day Owen's car turned on, his music resumed, and a small communicator laid open and abandoned by it's front wheel.
