She looked around at her surroundings, finally realizing she wasn't where she had been only a couple minutes ago. Or had it been longer than that? Judging by the fact that the sun was in the middle of the sky... yeah... it had been at least a good hour longer.
This was becoming a regular occurrence for Maria, getting lost that was. However, most of the time, she would find that building with all those detectives, and Det. Cross would send her home. This time, she must of gotten even further lost.
The tiny 5'1, dark haired, Asian Timelady, had managed to wander into Cardiff. Well she hadn't been here before, or rather she hoped she hadn't. In this incarnation, she realized she had a rather hard time recalling certain details. And several of her memories.
So, Maria; Lost, confused, and extremely curious; decided that since she was here, why not explore!
Within a good five minute, Maria had managed to confuse at least seven different people with her questions. Worry another about her mental health. Set off at least three different car alarms just from leaning on them. And almost got herself ran over, all from the uncertainty of where she could cross the road.
Now she was staring at the large mirror like water tower. Watching how the water ran down, and placed her hands onto the side of the tower. She giggled at the feeling of the water sliding over the back of her hands and over her wrists.
Jack watched the young woman from his spot on the invisible lift. He'd run his hands over the fountain a time or two in his long life but he'd never seen it from the other side. He let a smile grace his features as he waited to make sure she wasn't looking before he stepped off the lift. He placed a careful hand on her shoulder and kept his smile firmly in place. "Are you lost, miss?" he asked, voice calm and cheerful.
He felt something ... unusual with this woman. He'd adjusted his coat but there was something niggling him in the back of his mind. There was something different. Maybe he'd use his Vortex Manipulator to check her over.
Maria jumped slightly as she felt a sudden weight on her shoulder. Tilting her head to look at what it was, she saw a hand. She tried to lean her head back to get a better view of the man. Of course, that made her feel like she was loosing her balance. What she did to try and regain it... she moved her arms about as she turned to face him.
"Are you lost, miss?" He asked, sounding very friendly.
She smiled brightly at him, a look of amazement in her eyes. "How'd you know?" She asked, "Are you lost too? Or do I look like other people who've gotten lost?"
The man had a rather nice coat. A rather old, nice military coat. "Were you in the army or something? Or did you get that from a friend?" Maria asked innocently, before going off on another subject. "Oh! You know those things, those things with the twirlly stick bit? They hold chopped up ice with like colors in it, and the stick you can sip from?"
She had suddenly remembered a slushie, only not the actual name of it.
Jack looked at the young woman before him in confusion. She what she was asking was odd and he took a moment for him to figure out what she was talking about. "You mean a slushie? That's an interesting thing to ask about. I think there might be a place near by. And I'm not lost. I work around here. I'm Captain Jack Harkness, and you are?" he asked as he offered his hand by way of greeting. He did a small flourish.
"You mean a slushie?" He asked, after a couple moments of silence. "That's an interesting thing to ask about."
"Yes! Exactly." Maria smiled up at him, only now just realizing how much taller this man was compared to her. Maybe she was stuck in the land where giants roamed? Or maybe people in this part of the world are just naturally tall.
"I think there might be a place near by." The tall man pondered, before answering her question about if he was lost too. "And I'm not lost. I work around here."
"Really? Are you the fountain manager?" She tilted her head to the side in mild curiosity. "Or do you work close by?
"I'm Captain Jack Harkness," The Captain started. "And you are?"
Maria gave him a bright grin, and shook his hand several times. "My name is Maria Johnson, Are you a captain of a ship? Perhaps a plane..." The small Timelady was already starting to confuse herself. "I've never met a captain before... or maybe I have, I just can't remember. I've met a Chief before! He saved me from... from.."
She scratched at her head as she tried to recall what it was called. "Um... I know their name, they had whisks and plungers for arms. And a large metal casing. With a funny telescope for an eye."
Jack clenched his jaw at the description. He really didn't like thinking of that. He hated Daleks and just thought of them made his whole body hurt. He remembered his first death quite well. Not all of the ones after it, but that one...
He mentally shook himself and turned back to the woman before him. He'd have to take her down to Torchwood. They'd have to figure out what was going on with her. "How about I show you where to find a slushie and you can come with me. We'll see what we can do to fill in the holes in your memory. Sound good?" he asked with a winning smile.
He offered his arm and made to lead the young woman to the nearest slushie stand so he could bring her back to Torchwood. He quickly pulled out his cell and typed out a message to Ianto and the rest of his Team to let them know what was going on.
If Maria had been paying attention to the captain's facial features, she probably would've asked if there was something wrong. However, she was a bit distracted by a little yellow butterfly that fluttered by.
"How about I show you where to find a slushie," Jack started, bringing Maria's attention back onto him. "And you can come with me."
"My best friend says not to go anywhere with strangers." She interrupted him, for a quick moment. "But... Since I know your name, I guess that doesn't make you a stranger then."
"We'll see what we can do to fill in the holes in your memory." Jack gave her one of his dashing smiles as he asked. "Sound good?"
"Can you really fix my memory? I've been trying real hard to remember things, but it's as if they run further away from me." Maria looked down, much like a scolded child. Then not a moment later, she smiled cheerfully again, wrapping her arms around his. "I like those blue ones, they remind me of these berries I had a long long time ago. Did you know that you have to use a special kind of paper to buy things?! I didn't know that until a week after I moved in with Finn."
John shook his head. The woman before him was so full of energy. Kind of like another woman he knew. His mind wandered to Rose for a few moments before focusing back on the task at hand. "We'll certainly do what we can to restore your memories. As for the slushie I think you're wanting a blue raspberry. I like them too," he grinned a little. Her sheer excitement made him feel younger than he was. He really hoped Ianto would be getting back to him soon.
"We'll certainly do what we can to restore your memories." He said, then added with a grin. "As for the slushie I think you're wanting a blue raspberry. I like them too."
Maria smiled brightly at him, before jumping up and hugging him. "Oh thank you! Thank you!" She let herself drop back to the ground, trying not to hop about too much. "Thank you very much, Captain. And even if I don't get them back, that's fine."
"I've only had them once, I think.." She explained, trying to remember how many times she actually had the icy drink.
