" A cyber what?" John followed Ko'an quickly not really understanding anything he was saying, or where they were going. " So what you just felt a disturbance in the cyber men universe and decided to go check it out?" John smiled jokingly at Ko'an. He could sense that it might not be the best time to start cracking jokes. But he couldn't help it, when you gotta joke, you gotta joke. "So this woman lives where exactly?" He didn't completely believe in what Ko'an was telling him, but he decided to humor him anyway.
"Cybermen. Robots with human brains in them." The Mentor started to explain, stopping when he realized that John was joking around. He took it that perhaps the boy was nervous or has never been in a dangerous situation before. So he just started walking again, Ko'an was really not the type of person who goofed off, at least not any more. The Time Lord kept his pace measured. He shook his head, his gaze ahead, "No. I sensed the woman panic and entered her mind to see what she saw and it was a Cyberman in her closet." He did not bother to stop at the edge of the pavement and simply walked across the street, ignoring the honking noises that came from passing vehicles, "There are not many Time Lords left. Yet many of some aliens that would attack a defenseless planet like this one are still in the hundreds and thousands. Every Time Lord does what ever he or she can to the best of their abilities to defend those planets. If they wish to."
The Time Lord stopped for a moment to allow John to catch up and catch his breath, "Not too far from this spot now. But I do wonder how many more Cybermen there are around here though. They may be preparing for an invasion as we speak." He looked around as he waited for John to catch his breath, "But if they are that means everyone of them has to be found fast and efficiently. Because it only takes one to start upgrading people to become one of their own kind."
John rushed up to Ko'an as he crossed the busy street, yelling sorry at the people honking at them. He paused for a second to let the information that he just told him sink in. " So we're trying to find these 'Cyber-men', who kill innocent people by upgrading them into their kind. Makes sense. " John couldn't understand why they were going towards the scary alien robot things that would probably kill them without a second thought. He personally would like to live to see another day. " I don't know about you. But I for one would like to live to see tomorrow. Just try not to get me killed." John smiled teasingly at the serious man beside him. He could tell that he probably needed a little more joy in his life.
The Mentor looked down to John with a focused gaze, "If you are too afraid to come with me, you can hang around somewhere else and I will come searching for you when I am finished." He was starting to question John goofing around like he is doing. This Time Lord really did not get the point of having fun since he was maybe around John's age. Maybe a little older, "You will live to see another day if you do exactly as I say." He pronounced the last words to show that he meant it.
Seeing John had caught his breath he started walking again, fast though. He could sense that this woman was really panicked, "Now just do as I say. If you fail to listen you will get killed. Do you understand?" Ko'an looked back to John as he spoke.
John shook his head yes. What was happening had just grasped John fully. He was actually going towards some dangerous alien, with some Time Lord who kind of scared him. All he could think was, WAS HE OUT OF HIS IDIOTIC MIND!? Why was he going alone with this guy's plan. Why was he still here!? John began to panic a little. But he quickly took a few deep breaths and calmed himself. Hiding his panic with a small smile. " So this will be a piece of cake."
The Mentor waited for the young man's response, smiling lightly. Why did this young man remind himself of his own younger years when he was John's age? The Time Lord smiled, "Good. Just do as I say. Come along." The Mentor turned back around and started walking again, making sure this time that John was able to keep up. It was not that far of a walk now.
A couple blocks later The Mentor stood in front of the woman's door, he looked to John for a moment before pounding on the door. They did not have to wait long, "Hello Ma'am. We are here to take a look at what you found in your closet." He watched as the woman slowly nodded before opening the door wider. The Mentor stepped in and looked around, examining the walls and doors that were in the hallway before the living room
John quietly followed the Mentor inside of the house. He polity nodded towards the panicked looking woman, looking around the interior. It was a pretty nice place, you wouldn't expect to see some human killing alien hiding in it. He decided to look around himself. He was here, might as well try to help with something.
He branched away from the living room going down one of the hallways, looking for any door's that looked like it might be a closet. He paused at the very last door, opening it slowly. He looked through the closet pushing aside some of the jackets, and so on. There was nothing there. Maybe there really wasn't anything here, maybe the woman and Ko'an were insane. He was about to close the door when he heard a sound coming from behind him. "You will be upgraded." Slowly John turned around to see a shiny robot type thing. At least I found the cyberman...
He was unable to say anything, so he just backed away from the robot until he hit the wall at the end of the hallway. When the cyberman started walking forward, John finally found his voice. "FOUND IT!" He clutched to the wall, trying to keep from hyperventilating.
The Mentor walked into one of the many rooms, asking the woman some questions as she seemed to have decided to follow him around her home. He searched every cupboard and room that he came across. Not noticing that John had wondered off.. at least until he stopped to look around from where he stood. The Time Lord did not panic though, he knew that the young man could take care of himself, "So.. it is not on this side of the house.. nor any others. Why?" The Time Lord did notice the strange look that the woman was giving him, but pretended to not notice it.
The Time Lord heard John yell and ran to the room, "Duck. Now!" The Mentor did not yell out of panic, he was calm and collected, "Now roll away. But do not get up straight away. Get behind something first." The Time Lord looked at the Cyberman as it turned to face him, "Ah.. I remember you.. Long time no see." Of course the last part of that sentence was out of sarcasm. It really had not been that long since he had last seen this cyberman, "How many of you are there left?"
"We are of good numbers. We will rebuild and convert others." The Cyberman said, it's mechanical voice was almost static though, hinting that it had received some damage.
"But why wait until now to do so when you have been found? You could have been converting others to your kind long before I got here.. unless there was someone or something you have been waiting for." The Mentor was of course just guessing, he had no idea if the Cybermen leader was waiting for something or not.
John let out a sigh of relief when he saw Mentor. He then ducked, quickly getting away from the cyber man, to stand behind Mentor. This probably wasn't what he meant by ‘get behind something first’. But John thought it would be a little mean to hide behind the poor fear stricken woman standing a little away’s from them. John could have been making alot of sarcastic comments during the conversation between ko’an and the cyber man. But he decided that now might not be the best time. Instead he slowly, and quietly walked back to the woman who was standing uncertainly in the door frame.
“Are you alright?” He whispered to the slightly shaky woman. She simply nodded in return. John touched her shoulder lightly, to give her some sort of comfort, then stood in front of her, as a type of barrier. He then tuned back into the conversation with the cyber man. John thought about what Ko’an asked the cyber man. Why did it decide to wait? He thought for a second.. From what he could figure out, the cyber man seemed to be a leader type figure. Maybe a commander, or general, type figure to the cyber men. And if he were a cyber leader, he would only want the best for his army. Humans would do…. But if someone came up who belonged to a race considerably smarter, and superior to the humans. Well then it would only be the logical thing to convert that person into a cyber man. Maybe even a cyber leader like himself.
It all clicked into place. John spoke up to both the cyber man and mentor. “ If I was to convert someone for my cybernetic army. I would only want the best. Sure humans would do.. But if someone who was from a superior, and far more advanced race were to pop up. The only logical choice would be to convert that person while I had the chance..” He hoped that the Mentor, got what he was trying to tell him. He wasn't very good with words anyway…
