Another Time, Another Place.

So of course, as always, Caitlyn had gotten bored of the ‘normal’ life she’d been living (although, she had been living it in the past, when her mother was a teenager), and she’d decided she needed an adventure. After a lot of thinking and research and brainstorming, Caitlyn finally decided to randomize where she was going (since she was a total computer geek/technology geek, she’d managed to find out a way to do that) instead of picking a place. So she set the Vortex Manipulator to random, and off she went. Traveling with the V.M was always a weird experience, and the first few times she used it, her head always hurt like hell. But, now that she was used to it, she dismissed the pain and just continued on traveling. Her mother didn’t approve (that is, the older/future one), but since she was ill, she couldn’t stop Caitlyn from doing…well, anything she wanted. Sure, Caitlyn hated that her mother was ill and she hated that Kitty refused to take the treatment, but there was nothing she could do, and she knew, deep down, that she couldn’t live her life mourning about it. She had to get out there, have some fun, and live her life how she wanted to. And that was exactly what she was doing, and she was proud of it, too. So, when she arrived in a forest, Caitlyn raised an eyebrow, wondering where she was. She caught sight of someone before they vanished into a town, and she realized that she was not in modern times…and her outfit would probably be extremely revealing/confusing for people who saw her…but oh well.
Caitlyn bit her lip and for a while, she just wandered around, feeling kind of bored. Then, she had an idea. She took a book out of her backpack and zipped the backpack up again. She placed the book on a log stump and sat only a few metres away from the stump, with her backpack beside her. She was in a forest, and everything was calm and quiet…why not practice her telekinesis? She desperately wanted to be able to do it when she felt like it, not just when she was angry. She focused on the book, her breathing shallow, and closed her eyes, wondering if it was easier that way. She willed the book to rise up into the air and then come towards her. It was taking a lot of effort but Caitlyn knew that, very, very slowly, something was happening. It was insanely difficult, but as she got better, it’d be easier. Since she hadn’t had a teacher, she thought she was doing pretty well. Suddenly the rustle of leaves distracted her and it felt like something had exploded in her mind. Her eyes flew open and she swear she noticed the book drop a tiny bit, but she couldn’t be sure if that had actually happened, or if she’d simply imagined it. Considering the fact that she was rather desperate to do telekinesis easily, it could have been either one. She glared over at the leaves. They’d been rustled by the wind and it had distracted Caitlyn from her concentration. Sure, over time, she probably wouldn’t get as distracted by noise, but since she was still a beginner it was hard not to.
A small sigh left the blonde’s lips. She was 13, and she still hadn’t mastered this whole telekinesis thing, and it was annoying, although deep down she figured it was understandable. Biting her lip, she closed her eyes and focused on the book again, blocking out the sound around her. After a few long minutes, Caitlyn dared open her eyes and, although she didn’t take her focus off of the book, she was delighted to see it was very slowly rising from the log. With a lot more concentration she tried to get the book to flip. It turned the tiniest bit, and then she realized she was enjoying this too much, and so her concentration slipped, causing the book to fall back onto the log. It had only been, what, 3 meters up in the air? But that didn’t matter, because Caitlyn was progressing and that was all that mattered to her at this point in time. A happy smile crossed her features, but she decided to let her mind rest for a while. She knew not to rush herself, otherwise she could get hurt or worse. At first, she needed to take it slow, but later on in life she’d be an expert at it. Well, hopefully at least. She wanted to believe that someday she’d be an expert, but not many people knew what the future held. But then, saying that, she could always go and see her future with the Vortex Manipulator. But for now, she wanted her future to stay a secret.
Caitlyn studied her surroundings thoughtfully, biting her lip. She had no idea where she was (although it was probably pretty far into the past from her real time), she was wearing modern clothes and she could get attacked for any reason at any second. Although if that person attacked her, she could fight, since she was pretty darn good at that. A small sigh escaped her lips, but this time it was a content one. Her eyes moved back to the book and she sat upright, licked her lips, and began. She decided to try with her eyes open, this time, and so she focused on the book, tried blocking out the sound again, and imagined it slowly lifting into the air. For a few moments, nothing happened, but Caitlyn was determined, and she didn’t let herself feel or get distracted by anything, because she was certain something would happen. Sure enough, barely 20 seconds later, the book very slowly began to rise from the log. Caitlyn kept her focus, but she let a smile cross her features. So far, so good.
