Canon
Name: Dorothy Gale "Ace" McShane
Age: 16 and up
Species: Human, later Time Lady
Planet of Origin: Earth
Occupation: N/A
Physical Description:
Ace 1 - Ace stands 5”2 and keeps her hair in a ponytail. Most of the time wears a black jacket with multiple pins and patches on it. She wears a skirt with stockings, and a back pack which she tries to keep packed with as many of the Nitro-9 bombs she makes as it can hold. Later on, after rejoining the Doctor, she starts wearing a spandex suit with a yellow utility belt that she keeps odds and ends in.
Ace 2 – Ace stands 5”4’ with a pair mix match colored eyes, one green and one brown, medium auburn hair at shoulder length. Most of the time, she wears it down but when she is serious or about to get into some mischief she’ll throw it up into a pony tail like her previous incarnation. She still carries around her backpack most of the time but has been known to ditch the back pack for a pair of camo cargo pants with the pockets which she’s made bigger on the inside because you can never have enough pocket space especially when you’re carrying around an arsenal of various Nitro 9 concoctions.
Ace 3 - Ace stands about 5”6’ again with mix match colored eyes, one green and one purple with medium brown, almost black hair. Having mellowed out a lot over the years this Ace has ditched the solider look, for the most part, for a more laid back look of jeans and a blouse unless she’s working on something than she tends to fall back to the solider look. Old habits die hard even if you’re in your triple digits.
Personality:
Ace 1 - Fiercely loyal to her friends, bit of a free spirit, creative and gifted in chemistry as well as some weapons mechanics. This Ace died by catching a bullet in the shoulder and the leg.
Ace 2 - Still Fiercely loyal to her friends this Ace has a bit of a temper and has more of a solider flare to her that her previous self didn’t really touch on too much, but still had. She can be absent minded sometimes and jump from one topic to another. This Ace didn’t really die as much as regenerated to help The Doctors granddaughter Susan through her forced regeneration or risk losing her already fractured mind entirely.
Ace 3 – For about 60s years after her second regeneration, Ace fell off the map, taking up residance in the old west on earth. By now Ace has had a longer life than most humans would ever hope to have, reaching upwards into her upper triple digits, like, 150-160 she doesn’t really keep track, and because so has fallen a little out of touch with the human race. Her attitude is more motherly and laid back than her other selves.
History:
Dorothy was the daughter of Audrey Dudman and Harry McShane. In her youth, Ace had been a troubled teen on Earth, having been expelled from school for blowing up the art room as a "creative statement".
Shortly afterward, she took up work as a waitress at a fast-food cafe in order to make a living, a job she derived little excitement from.
Gifted in chemistry (despite failing it for her "O"-levels), she was in her room experimenting with the extraction of nitroglycerin from gelignite when a time storm swept her up and transported her to the deck of Sabalom Glitz's spacecraft docked at Iceworld far in her future.
Trapped on Iceworld, at the age of 16, she got a job as a waitress and (an unknown time later) met the Doctor and his companion Mel. When Mel left the Doctor at the conclusion of their battle with Kane, he offered to take Ace with him in the TARDIS, and she happily accepted.
Ace had suffered several traumatic events in her childhood, including a bad relationship with her mother and the racist firebombing of her friend Manisha's flat. (Manisha died in the fire-bombing, and Ace in anger set fire to Gabriel Chase, a long abandoned mansion rumored to be haunted by an ancient evil).
Consequently, Ace covered up her own fears and insecurities with a streetwise, tough exterior. Her weapon of choice, disapproved of by the Doctor (who nonetheless found it useful on more than one occasion), was a powerful explosive she called "Nitro-9", which she mixed up in canisters and carried around in her backpack.
Affectionately giving the Doctor the nickname of 'Professor', she was convinced that the Doctor needed her to watch his back, and protected him with a fierce loyalty. In turn, the Doctor seemed to take a special interest in Ace's education, taking her across the universe and often prompting her to figure out explanations for herself rather than giving her all the answers.
As it turned out, he was trying to shape her mind to the point that she would be able to attend the Time Lord Academy. Ultimately, however, she refused this academic opportunity and continued to travel with the Doctor.
Eventually Ace became more and more frustrated with the Doctor's manipulations and eventually left The Doctor (and who could blame her) after she blamed him for causing the death of her then fiancé Jan Rydd.
Now living in the 26th century, Ace joined Spacefleet and fought Daleks and others. Three years later, combat-hardened and cynical, she rejoined the Doctor and current companion Bernice Summerfield.
Later on while her relationships with Bernice and the Doctor at breaking point, Ace accepted the offer of the misguided renegade Time Lord The Monk, to join with him as his companion and accomplice, however, intending to betray the Monk all along. By this time she had finally gotten over the death of Jan.
Ace left the Doctor again to become Time's Vigilante using a short-range time hopper mounted to a motorcycle to patrol a particular segment of time basing herself in Paris 1887.
Ace was eventually admitted to the Time Lord Academy on Gallifrey.
At the Time Lord academy, Ace was given the planet of Talmeson to watch over after graduating she visited Earth again to catch up with her mother one last time, only to find out sadly her mother had passed away due to cancer.
When she returned, she found out that Talmeson was wiped out by the Daleks. That was when she decided to wipe out the Daleks by time locking Skaro using an Omega device. (Hmm, wonder where The Doctor got the idea )
Eventually finding her way back to Earth, Ace started up a charity organization called “A Charitable Earth" which is nothing more than a front for UNIT.
Though when trying to say under the radar when she’s been somewhere working for UNIT or on her own Ace will leave a single Ace of Spades playing card as her calling card.
Writing sample for Ace:
Ace laid back against her back pack, gingerly moving around the contents inside of the bag so it didn’t blow up under her head, the thought caused her to smirk a little. “Now that would be a tragedy.” She turned her attention back to the night sky. How many of those stars had she been to?
As much as she didn’t want to think about those times, every time she looked at the sky, particularly the night sky, her mind wandered back to those times. She stopped herself and sat up, crossing her legs. Looking down she wiped away a rebellious tear that had managed to escape before she looked back to the stars. She hadn’t wanted to leave the TARDIS but at the time it had to be done.
Ace got up, grabbed her book bag, and headed over to the motorbike she had parked nearby. She laid the back pack on the bike and secured it to make sure it wouldn’t fall off before turning around and taking one last look at the night sky “See you around professor.” Convinced nothing had been left or would be lost Ace got on the bike, balanced it with her legs on the ground before placing her foot on the kick start, and pushed it forward causing the bike to roar to life.
Letting the engine on the bike idle for a second, Ace revved it a little before dropping it into gear and causing it to fish tail some as she took off down the road.
