Name: Ianto Jones
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Planet of Origin: Earth
Occupation: 'Tea Boy'/Torchwood worker.
Physical Description: Ianto has short, well-kept brown hair with blue eyes. He's usually seen wearing formal things, such as suits and ties, but there are those occasional times where he wears casual clothes like everyone else. He nearly always has a watch on...why? Well, to tell the time of course. Ianto is always neat and well-kept, save for those occasional times where Torchwood gets into messy situations.
Personality: Ianto is a very kind and thoughtful person most of the time. He has his bad side, just like everybody else. He can be very protective of his friends but most of the time he's very easygoing. He gets a little exasperated with people who act stupid/ask the same questions over and over again, and when that happens, he gets a bit snippy and sarcastic. He's good at comforting others and seeing people sad makes him a little sad too, especially if he can't help them. He can be shy at times but most of the time, he really isn't. Ianto can be very stubborn and argumentative at times, although there have been other times where he just does what he's told. Although he may not act like it, Ianto is a very sensitive guy underneath and he's not the heartbreaker type at all. He will, of course, forever remain a gentleman to most people. He's smart, but he doesn't brag about it. He'll defend his friends and his job with his life, and if someone's doing something that isn't right, Ianto isn't afraid to tell them and, mostly, tell them that he disapproves. He's willing to sacrifice himself for other people, and he's good at keeping secrets. At times, he can get flustered and embarrassed but he tries to hide it away and act professionally, since that's how he 'taught' himself to be. However, while he is very professional, Ianto is also known to turn a little bit jokey and childish. He knows when to be serious and when not to be, and he has a sense of humor. He can be mistrusting at times but after a while this always fades. Although he may seem, and be, the most sensitive one on the team (well, one of them), he's actually surprising. He can hit pretty hard and he can put up a good argument. He can be rather cheeky and he knows how to flirt pretty well, despite the fact that he doesn't often do it. Ianto is very creative and has taken to naming some of the alien stuff that Torchwood has. He's rather charismatic although it may not seem like it, and he knows how to weave his words so he can convince people.
History: Not very much is known about Ianto's past, since there hasn't really been any need for him to share it. He was born on 19 August, in Cardiff. Ianto's father worked in Debenhams, but often told people that he was a Master Tailor, for whatever reason. Ianto told the team that his father enjoyed taking Ianto to the cinema, even though his sister Rhiannon implied that their relationship was not as strong as he made out. Rhiannon and Ianto recounted that his father pushed him too hard on the swings in his childhood and Ianto ended up breaking his leg. As he was brought up, he was taught he shouldn't and couldn't speak ill of dead people. Later in life, Ianto's father died, and Ianto left for university very soon after these events. His sister explained/claimed that he couldn't wait to leave, which probably meant that his relationship with the rest of his family was falling to pieces. He had a minor blip on his criminal record for shoplifting in his teens, but apart from that his record is completely clean. Throughout his life Ianto took many temporary jobs, before he managed to get one at Torchwood One as a junior researcher. Torchwood One was based in Canary Wharf, London. In the battle of Canary Wharf, Ianto's girlfriend Lisa was converted into a Cyberman (partly). When he was back in his native town, Cardiff, Ianto managed to track Jack down and get a job at Torchwood Three, despite the fact that at first Jack was doubtful. Ianto managed to sneak Lisa into the hub in a life support in an unused basement. Sadly, the Cyberman conversion took her humanity and his teammates killed her when she took over the body of a pizza lady, in order to 'be with Ianto'. He took four weeks off of work after this, but after that he returned.
He helped save the world, along with his teammates, from alien threats many times after joining Torchwood Three. He seemed to mostly be the calmest when in danger, although there were those times where he got scared (who wouldn't?). Ianto, although at first glance it may not seem like it, proved to be a very useful member of the team. He also proved to be very creative, or at the very least able to think up names for the Torchwood gadgets. He named The Life Knife and he nicknamed the Resurrection Gauntlet the risen mitten. Ianto keeps a paper diary where he writes about interesting Rift activity, as well as the occasional personal detail. Ianto also helped the Doctor when the Daleks invaded Earth, although his role was minor mostly. He didn't get to meet the Doctor in person, but they spoke over the Subwave Network, along with some other of the Doctor's companions. He and Gwen were found by a Dalek and they were 'going out fighting', so they opened fire with assault rifles as soon as the Dalek entered the Hub. But there was no need, since Toshiko's Time Lock saved them from being killed by the Dalek. The Time Lock, along with the Dalek, later exploded thanks to Donna Noble.
Ianto has a rather...complicated relationship with his boss, Jack, since, while he was only a 'part time shag' according to Owen at one point, they have also apparently been on dates. Needless to say the whole thing is a bit confusing, but Ianto isn't exactly one to complain. Apart from Lisa, Ianto hasn't really had a proper relationship, despite the fact that he seems to want one. Since he puts work first, however, this is unlikely.

"Save your breath, Ianto."
His sister's cold eyes were what scared him the most; they'd been getting along well until Ianto had mentioned their dad. She wasn't ready to talk about him, even though it had been so long. For once, Ianto actually wanted to talk, but it seemed Rhiannon was past that. She had just finished yelling at him, saying that all that time where she actually wanted to talk to him, he hadn't wanted to know, and yet now he was all over the idea. Ianto wasn't sure what he was supposed to say...or what he was supposed to do exactly. A small sigh escaped his lips as he ran a hand through his hair. Eventually, however, the silence became rather unnerving, so Ianto took a deep, shuddery breath, and plucked up the courage to speak again.
"I understand that you're angry." Ianto said calmly. "I just...I wasn't ready, before, and I thought letting my emotions out was weak. But Torchwood has taught me that emotions are the only things that make us human." he wasn't sure what else to say, so he paused, mulling it over in his head. He looked Rhiannon dead in the eye, and her cold expression faded, although it was clear that she was still angry at him.
"I'm not perfect, Rhiannon. I never was and I never will be." Ianto said seriously. "But I don't want to argue with you. I've lost contact with Mum so you're the only family I've got left and despite what you think, I do love you. I just wish you could understand properly, but I don't think anybody can." Ianto finished his tea and got up, smiling at her weakly. "This is the part where you say you hate me and never want to see me again, isn't it? Well, I'll save you the trouble, I suppose."
He was heading towards the door when she tapped him on the shoulder. He turned to face her and his heart broke when he saw she was crying. "Please don't cry, Rhi." that had always been his nickname for her as kids...he wasn't sure why. It just sounded right. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and she pulled him into a fierce hug, which he returned with a small smile of relief. He knew she'd forgiven him.
"I'm sorry, Ianto. I didn't think about it from your point of view. I do want to see you again...we need to start talking and getting to know each other again. I don't talk to Mum much, either, so...pretty much all we have left is each other."
"Cafe by my work next week?" Ianto offered, stepping back from the hug to smile warmly at her. "It'll be my treat, to make up for time I've wasted." he added.
Rhiannon chuckled and nodded, wiping at her eyes. Her eyes were soft again and her smile was genuine, if a little sad. "Sounds great. See you then, Ianto." she opened the door for him, but as he was just about to start walking to the gate she called out. "Love you, Ian." that had been her nickname for him.
At the words, Ianto paused. He hadn't heard them from any of his family in so long so it had taken him a little off guard. But he smiled, and he turned to face her, his eyes solemn for a moment. Even Rhiannon wouldn't be able to tell what was running through his mind at that very moment. But she was surprised when he replied.
"Love you too, Rhi. See you next week." with that, Ianto was walking away. She couldn't see the smile on his face and he couldn't see the one on hers, but both of them could tell that this was a new beginning. As Ianto heard the door click shut, he briefly wondered what life would have been like if he had spoken to his mother...or if his father had been alive.
A sad smile replaced the genuine one on Ianto's face. The past couldn't be changed, he knew that...but that couldn't stop him from wishing. As he got into the SUV and drove away, he briefly wondered if picking up a proper drink before work was against the rules...
