She dropped out of plannk space, a gasp of relief and pleasure as a planet loomed before her. She'd become more and more bold at the controls, breaking into normal space closer and closer to her destination as she ran faster and faster. She'd grown quite fond of her speedy little Catkind ship. It was always going to smell funny, however.
The planet wasn't much to look at, more brown than any other colors could be seen through thick cloud cover. Smog cover as well, she assumed. But somewhere on Codjel, she'd hoped to find what she needed and break her trail as best she could. Would even the Doctor be able to find her? She'd had to leave her TARDIS key far behind.
Sarah Jane Smith licked her lips, sat tall, and started working through getting the computer to plot the landing.
Alec jumped out of warp speed just as the ship in front of him, that was just about the same size as his, dropped out of their own. The Drahvin pressed a button on his console to scan the other ship, so that he could know if it is one that belongs to someone that he was hired to hunt down. He looked to the ship that it was heading too and frowned some because if whoever it is piloting the ship was one of his targets, he might as well forget he found the person or alien. Alec's goal now was to prevent the pilot from getting to the planet's surface, if he can that is. If he cannot stop the pilot from landing, then he will just have to hunt the person down.
He looked to the small screen as he heard a light 'beep' sound and read that it was one of his targets, who ever it was. The Drahvin turned his phaser guns on and turned his comm on to talk to the woman who was piloting the ship in front of him. It turned out that this Sarah Jane had a lot of charges against her, so many that he could not scroll through the whole list, which had a reason and punishment for each charged crime underneath. The Drahvin did notice right then that he was just to bring her in, " Stop your vehicle and surrender. You are wanted for charges that have been placed against you. If you surrender now, I will be more than willing to discuss the charges against you. If you do not surrender.. you will be fired upon." He then pressed a button to end his message to the other ship and patiently waited for a response back from the other ship.
Alec looked back down to the computer to look at each crime charge, and noticed that each one now said that he was to kill her, that certainly was a new thing. He had never gotten his orders changed right when he came across his next target. But then orders are orders. The young man took a deep breath and gripped the half wheel and looked to the other ship.
She startled when the voice came over the com. It was a punch in the stomach that she'd been found so quickly. There was too much wake plannk space for her to turn back the way she'd come.
At least this voice spoke words she could understand. She'd been greeted by all sorts of threats in everything from inhuman howls to emotionless computer translations. While this new threat went on, she was already on the move. She wasn't much of a pilot, but she'd spent a lot of time with a very good one. This little ship wasn't a TARDIS, but it wasn't about the means, but instead the ways.
She squirted the controls to put a subtle tumble on her ship, one finger clicking off one internal system after another.
"You don't sound like security. So . . . how much are you getting paid? I have more than that. We should talk."
She bit her lower lip to keep it from quivering. She turned off the gravity and started pulling herself down into her chair, ready to strap in and strap in tight.
Alec frowned as he came to the conclusion that this woman was not going to willingly stop her ship and surrender to him, "I am a type of security. I'm the one that goes out and collects those that are outside of the jurisdiction of the government who has placed the charges. I'm a bounty hunter. If you must know." He held his hands on the steering wheel tighter, his thumbs just on top of the buttons that will have him open fire on the other ship, "My pay is of no concern of yours. This is your last warning.. Surrender now or I will open fire on you." The Drahvin waited again. He wanted to see if with this warning that Sarah Jane would surrender with this final warning. And he wanted to capture her and tell the governor that hired him that he captured her, and see what he is told to do, "If you stop your ship and surrender.. then we will talk."
In his head he was quietly counting down, if he got down to zero with no response he will open fire with or without a response from Sarah Jane. Reading her records, she was a woman who travelled with a Time Lord, whatever that race was, who also had charges on his head. But with her travelling with this Time Lord also winded up with her having these charges that he was told to hunt her down for. Originally it was just to capture her and bring her in, but with the change in his orders, he was having a hard time deciding with which one to do. It was to either capture her and deal with her throughout the whole trip back, or to kill her and end this now, "You have eight seconds to decide if you are going to run or surrender. But choose wisely."
Just what she needed, an 'ethical' Bounty Hunter. Her teeth ground in frustration. She moved more quickly, unable to follow the numbers on the read out, but the graphics were clear. She just needed to keep him talking while she drifted closer to that orbiting small satellite.
"I don't have any shields. This is a medical ship. I'ts also full of all sorts of gasses and compounds under heavy pressure. If you fire, I'll be vaporized. That will make it hard to collect." She threatened with a hint of bitter wry. He didn't take the bait as much as she had hoped, only offering to let her stop and talk again. A cool headed ethical Bounty Hunter. This wasn't getting any better.
When he started his count down, he couldn't have known that she was counting as well, watching her goal drift closer. She stalled a couple of seconds before she even answered.
"Talking has always been my strong suit." She said, letting her voice thrum, and a smile touch her lips. "Whats your name?"
Now she was really smiling as she came in range and activated the tractor beam. Her ship became the yo yo to it's finger. Recalling the Doctor and his Yo Yo, she released at just the right time to send herself, the projectile, toward the planet as though a toy to thump against the wall. She turned off all systems and hurtled toward the planet, yanking tight her belts.
Alec was weighing out his options as he waited for Sarah Jane to reply again. She was right that if he fired on her that it would be difficult to prove the he killed her.. But if she did not slow down or reply by the time he got to the end of his countdown, he will open fire on her. She was a criminal and it was his job to either bring her in or to kill her. The young alien sighed as he saw that Sarah Jane's ship was neither coming to a stop or slowing down at all.
He was just starting to squeeze on the trigger when his speakers came back to life, "I know that Ms. Jane.. but this is my job. I am to either kill you or bring you in." Of course he did not catch onto her plan as she continued to speak to him, "My name is Alec Tyrrell." He looked to his scanners and saw nothing out of the ordinary, just an approaching satellite that orbited the planet. He looked back to the ship in front of him.
That was when he saw her activate a tractor beam to the satellite. But wouldn't that attract it towards her ship? That would destroy her ship.. but he soon got his answer when the ship appeared to go in quick circles around the satellite before being slingshot towards the planet. The Drahvin growled and sped his ship up, not wanting to lose this person at all. He followed as best as he could, he squeezed on the trigger, opening fire on her ship. All that it was to do was to do some damage to the ship enough to cause Sarah Jane to have to do an emergency landing somewhere on the planet.. Alec eased back on the wheel to slow his ship down to see just what Sarah Jane was going to do now.
"You're wrong about a lot of things. For starters, your name is Samuel Gerard. And I'm the Doctor." it was the last words she managed before crushing gravity took her breath away. A few alarms went off, for she'd certainly exceeded the ship's specifications. She didn't need an alarm to tell her she'd been hit, though. The impact knocked the wind right out of her. The ship went into a tumble, but it had an excellent auto pilot. She'd fainted before it skidded into the planet, and woke up whole to her delight and surprise. Upside down was tricky, but it wasn't her first time, and she managed not to land on her head.
Her ship was not as lucky as she. The computer was down, the ship quiet, and she had to manually crank open the door. Boots on turf. Wind. Tufted grasses. The whole nose of her sweet little ship was crumpled and crisped, the heat shielding burnt away and still smoking. And a bus stop of sorts, some kind of monorail track that headed of to a city perhaps 2 klicks away. She started jogging beside the raised track, but the very next platform she saw, she'd get on it. She could sweet talk her way inside just about any door.
Her pack no longer felt so heavy on her back even as she jogged. She'd carried it through thick and thin. She'd become stronger than she knew she'd ever have to be.
