Zoe was swinging upside down, her arms crossed irritably over her chest. Her ankles were tied together. This was all that boy’s fault. Honestly, it was. “Have any plans, Adric?” she hissed scathingly, pronouncing his name like it was poison. She had never been so irritated by anyone in her life! Even Jamie had been tolerable – he was an idiot to be sure, but at least he had been a friendly one.
The sixteen year old girl had a bit of a stubborn and independent streak. When the Doctor had left them to go tend to the Cybermen invasion, Zoe had decided to take measures into her own hands. And Adric – although he was younger and not as smart in Zoe’s opinion – had decided to meddle in her business. And to make an extremely long story that had to do with them being captured by the Cybermen’s human henchmen, they were here. Awaiting conversion. Hanging upside down by their ankles.
“I hope you’re happy with yourself,” Zoe said haughtily. “I had everything under control.” She struggled to sit up to untie her ankles, but as strong as she was, she couldn’t quite crunch. “But fighting won’t get us anywhere. Do you have a pocket knife or… or, hey! Toss me your badge!” she said, holding her hand out to him.
Adric glared at the ground beneath him. This was all that girls fault, if she hadn't been so keen on doing everything herself, they wouldn't be in this mess. “Have any plans, Adric?” He glared at Zoe, "Why ask me? You seem to be doing quite well on your own,Zoe" He tried to put as much hate into her name as he could. He had never been so annoyed by someone in his life! Not even Tegan was this annoying. And that was saying something...
Ever sense the Doctor had left, she'd been bossing him around. Treating him like he was an idiot, Even though he was the far smarter then her. He looked up at his ankles, trying to think of a way to cut them, or untie them himself. But he wasn't that strong.. “I hope you’re happy with yourself,” Zoe said haughtily. “I had everything under control.” Adric turned his head to look at her, scowling. "Oh yes, I can see that. Marvelous plan by the way, what's next after we get converted?" He watched her try to sit up, and untie her ankles. He gave her a shocked expression when she asked for his badge. " No! You'll just have to use something else. Surely you have some sort of knife on you." He stared at her for a few seconds, then sighed in defeat, taking off his prized possession and haughtily put it in her extended hand. " Just be careful with it."
“Thanks for noticing, Adric,” she returned spitefully, feeling the urge to swing herself until she could kick him. “You won’t get converted. They only convert those with high intelligence,” she said haughtily. “So at least you’re safe.” She sighed and looked around them, trying to form a plan. She needed to get herself untied so that she could go look for the Doctor. She held her hand out for the badge, rolling her eyes as he refused. “No, I don’t. Just give it to me,” she said, wriggling her fingers demandingly. She smirked as he gave it to her and curled her legs, slicing at the rope.
She curled and grabbed the rope, dangling. She pulled Adric closer, cutting him down and jumping down to the ground, looking around. The human henchmen had gone to the left. That would mean their best chance of escape would be to the right. Zoe threw the badge at Adric. “Come on!” she said, running to the left after the henchmen.
Adric glared at Zoe when she commented about his intelligence. If he could, he would of left her here to be upgraded. At least then she’d be useful. Adric tried to do the same maneuver zoe did when she cut herself down, but it was a little harder the expected. He at least managed to fall on his back, instead of his head. Sending piercing thoughts Zoe’s way, Adric stood back up. He caught his badge, happily pinning it back on his chest.
He quickly ran after her, looking at the henchmen they were following. “What are you doing? Your going to get us caught again!” Adric whispered fiercely behind her. He couldn’t believe how stupid she was, they had just gotten untied and now they were going to the one place they were trying to get away from? Why?!
Zoe snorted a bit as he landed all over himself like an uncoordinated dog. “No, I’m not,” she returned in a matching fierce whisper-yell. “They’re not stupid – they’ve probably left guards where we were at in case we got away. It’s not going to take them too long to figure out we got free, and where’s the first place they’re going to look? Around the TARDIS,” Zoe pointed out, crossing her arms as she continued on her way. “Not even you can be dumb enough to argue with me about that.”
She looked back at him again. “And anyway, how do you expect to learn anything in the TARDIS? Or help? Don’t tell me you honestly think the Doctor can handle these things by himself. He’s practically useless without a companion,” she said. “And if I know the Doctor at least a little bit, he’s going to be where the Cybermen are. Probably captured by this point, it’s been long enough.”
"I see your point.." He didn't want to admit it, but she was right. they wouldn't be able to do anything back at the TARDIS. And they still needed to figure out a way to save the Doctor before anything bad happened to him. He scanned the area in front of them looking for any signs of their captors, or where the Doctor might be held. He honestly had no idea what they would do when they found the Doctor. They couldn't just run in, grab him, and run out. Those plans never worked.
He put a hand on Zoe's arm to stop her, before she ran took another step forward. They couldn't just follow them in the open, they might be seen and caught again. Then how would they help the Doctor? He looked around the corridor, before spotting a ventilation shaft near the floor. He quickly ran up to it, and tried prying it off the wall. "Help me get this open." He was starting to enjoy this.
