Hawking's World (Formally Alcyon 331c) The Milky Way Galaxy AD 2714
"Now this was a good idea," the Doctor said to himself, looking around.
Sometimes, it was nice to save lives and generally help people. But sometimes, it was nice to visit a peaceful world. Someplace with no crisis, no imminent alien threats, nothing ridiculous like that. Just happy people, getting on with the work of their lives.
Hawking's World was such a planet. At least, in this century it was. And since he was resisting the urge to pop forward and see what happened next, he'd let it remain so in his imagination. Instead, he sipped his tea, and settled back to enjoy the view.
It was a spectacular view, really. Smithton spread out before him like a blanket, managing to resemble a high-tech fairy tale town. Buildings of local stone and timber rubbed shoulders with buildings of reinforced concrete and steel-frame structures, following planned fusionformed streets that gave way to meandering cobblestone lanes. And out beyond the edge of town, fields of wheat and corn waved gently in the breeze. Above, a brilliant blue-white star burned in an indigo sky.
Idyllic. "Ah, to be four hundred again," he murmured, sipping hot tea. "I'd be puttering about the library no doubt, or insisting on dropping in on the local university to argue with historians..."
There was a sudden feeling of vertigo, forcing him to put the teacup down and rest his head in his hands. Then it hit again. And again. "What in the world?" he muttered. "I don't get light-headed..."
His worlds trailed away. Not because he was feeling bad, but because the liquid in the cup was shimmering and sloshing.
Titania had been in the wardrobe room, having just finished picking out a new traveling outfit (the old one was getting rather worn out) when she felt the shakes. Quickly, she retraced her steps around the corridors- a difficult task even for an android- and made her way back to the console room. "Doctor? Are you all right?" she called, looking around. There wasn't any sign of him inside... so perhaps he went outside, Titania thought. With the continued shaking, Titania looked a bit worried as she held on to a railing to steady herself-then, when the shaking started to subside a bit, she ran for the doors and headed outside. If her new host were hurt in the earthquake, she'd do what she could to help him.
As for her new outfit, it consisted of a mostly-white dress that was pale green on the inside, as were the sleeve. It also was longer behind than in front, making it somewhat easier to move around in. She also wore a white cape that bore slight resemblance to a pair of wings, held together with a flower-shaped pin, as well as white stockings and a pair of slim white boots.

Mica Sat on top of Dean's hood peeling an apple while staring at the town. "Once again you drop me someplace i didn't want to go and then refuse to work" she says eating a piece of peel she cut off. "i swear there are days i want to just scrap you...but at least you picked a good place to land" she says with a small chuckle with taking another bite of peeling. Suddenly she started feeling a bit off like she had spun around in a circle. She nicks herself with the hunting knife as the feeling worsens "OW" she yells placing the bloody digit in her mouth "this is odd "she says putting down the knife. Just as he sets it down she notices it vibrating a bit before getting shaken off Dean's hood "ooff....ow" she says while managing to get up as the ground shakes. She looks at her TARDIS in annoyence "I stand corrected" she says picking her backpack up off the ground and looking to see if her sonic screwdriver was in her pocket.
The quake was powerful enough to knock the Doctor to the ground. From his perspective on the ferroplas sidewalk, he could watch the buildings around him shake and glass splinter from windows and crash downwards. Even the TARDIS was rocking back and forth, just a little, on her base.
As the quake began to subside, Titania emerged from the ship. "Doctor? Are you all right?"
"Well enough," he said, wiping at his shirt with his hand. "A little scuffed, and I'm wearing me tea now, but otherwise fine." He looked around. "More'n I can say for her. Come on!"
Darting across the street, he made for a young woman who lay awkwardly curled on the ground. Small fragments of glass covered her back and hair, and a large shard jutted from one leg. Tucked underneath her was an infant, perhaps six months old, squalling in fear. "Is she all right?" the woman kept asking as the Doctor drew near. "Is she all right?"
"Shhh," the Doctor said, looking. "She's fine. Did a good job there, you did. Let me have a look at you." Carefully, he looked at the fragment of glass in her leg.
"Are... are you a doctor?"
"Yep. The definite article, in fact." He glanced back for an instant. "What's your name?"
"H... H... Helen," she managed.
He turned his attention back to the woman. "Helen, I'll be honest. I'm not that kind of doctor. But I've picked up a bunch of first aid in my life. Enough to know that we need to get that out of you, before it breaks. What's your daughter's name?"
"S...Susan," the woman said.
The Doctor's face clouded for an instant. "That's a good name, that is. Susan. Titania, take care of Susan for a minute. Then, once we get the glass out and your leg bandaged, we'll stay here with you until we get you a medical doctor. All right?"
Titania was relieved to find the Doctor unharmed- it actually seemed rather silly in retrospect that she'd even considered that he might have been hurt, after all she'd heard and seen of him. However, it did seem that one of the locals had been injured, and Titania rushed to her side at the Doctor's signal, kneeling down beside the woman and giving her a gentle smile. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Helen and Susan," she says after the woman introduces herself and the baby.
The Doctor then instructs Titania to take care of Susan, and she seems to hesitate for a moment. Sure, she's experienced with helping visitors to Faerie's Circle with their children, but she doesn't exactly have the maternal instincts required to care for a baby. But she quickly shakes off her doubts and takes the baby into her arms, attempting to calm her, drawing upon what she'd seen others do when they'd brought babies to the park. However, her efforts don't produce much of a change.
Mica wondered down the streets looking any signs of people after waiting out the quake behind Dean. She didnt feel it would be a good idea to walk while the quake was still going. "no sign of any.." her thought was cut off when she heard and saw a group of people about 40 feet from her and what also sounded like an infant crying. She walks closer to them until she sees a man in a leather jacket and black jumper tending to a woman laying on the ground bleeding accompanied by an elfin looking woman holding a crying infant. Mica rushes over to them in hopes she can help. "um excuse me sir but do you guys need any help?" she asks them hoping she could be of some assistants. She did not like seeing inocent people hurt
The Doctor's face clouded for an instant. "That's a good name, that is. Susan. Titania, take care of Susan for a minute."
Titania hesitated, then took the baby in her arms. Susan made a fussing sound, then settled down to chewing on her fingers and grabbing at the android's hair.
"Then, once we get the glass out and your leg bandaged," he continued, "we'll stay here with you until we get you a medical doctor. All right?"
"All... all... right," Helen gasped out, trying to sound strong.
"Um," asked a dark-haired young woman, "excuse me sir but do you guys need any help?"
"Yes!" the Doctor said, gratefully. "Yes, we do. I need you to hold Helen's leg - oh, I'm the Doctor, that's Titania there holding Susan, and this is Helen." He pointed to each in turn. "I don't need you to put a death grip on it or anything, all right? But hold it still, cos I'm gonna pull this glass out. It looks deep, and we don't need it breaking."
He glanced up at the android. "You doing all right, Titania? Susan seems to have developed a liking for you, and I've always felt you can trust the judgement of a Susan. So, can you also sit over here, and hold Helen's hand? Just.. keep her distracted, and looking at you."
"Helen? I need you to watch Titania and Susan. You really don't wanna watch this part."
Fortunately, it seemed that Titania was able to calm the baby eventually after all. She smiles at her success, and then looks toward Mica as she arrives, providing more help. "Hello," she says, happy to see others willing to assist. Listening to the Doctor's instructions, she shifts herself so that, while still holding the baby, she can take Helen's hand in her own, as gently as she can. She looks into Helen's eyes and smiles. "Yes, look at me," she agrees. "You may even look at my ears if you like, as they must be quite eyecatching for you," she adds with a laugh.
Mica nodded at the order and knelt down by Helen injured leg. She had been through these types of emergencies and was use to blood but was afraid that she could forget her own strength and cause more harm than good. She took a deep breath and placed her hands on Helen's leg. making sure it was tight enough that she could keep the leg still but with out causing Helen more pain, and far enough apart that she wasn't touching the wound. She looks at Helen who is staring at Susan and Titania and couldn't help but smile at them. She then turned her attention back to the Doctor. "My name is Mica Foster by the way " she says due to her forgetting to tell him the first time.
"Helen? I need you to watch Titania and Susan. You really don't wanna watch this part."
Shaking, Helen turned her attention on the android holding her child. "Yes, look at me," she agrees. "You may even look at my ears if you like, as they must be quite eyecatching for you," she adds with a laugh.
Despite her fears, Helen did laugh. Just a little, but it was a laugh. The Doctor shook his head, then glanced at the newcomer squatting by Helen's leg. "My name is Mica Foster by the way."
"Good to meet you, Mica. We're gonna do this on three."
He drew a deep breath.
"One," he said, wiggling his fingers like a pianist preparing to play.
"Two," he said, getting a firm grip on the glass shard.
"Three."
There was no special emphasis on the final word. But, as he said it, he pulled slowly and deliberately on the fragment buried in the woman's thigh. She screamed, setting Susan to crying once more, and fought to keep from arching and twisting to escape. Blood flowed copiously, and suddenly the Doctor was holding an encarmined fragment the size and rough shape of a man's hand.
"Quick, now!" he barked, clamping both hands over the wound. "In me right front pocket there's a couple o' handkerchiefs. Grab 'em out for me, so I can bandage her up."
Even as he spoke, blood seeped between his fingers and splatted thickly to the pavement.
Titania is a bit busy keeping control of the baby as she begins crying once more, meaning she's unable to comply with the Doctor's command. She looks quickly toward Mica, hoping she can handle it. It certainly seemed to be a nasty wound... not the kind she tended to see back on Faerie's Circle. And she'd like to help more, but... time was tight.
Mica quickly let go of Helen's leg and reaches into the Doctors right front pocket and takes the hankercheifs. She then places them on the wound making sure she is applying even compression on the wound. While holding the wound she looks at theDoctor before switching quickly to one hand on the wound and using the other to hand the doctor her backpack. "There is a first aid kit in my backpacks front pouch it has enough supplies in it to deal with this type of wound." She replied quickly while placing both hands back on the wound.
"Fantastic!" the Doctor said, pulling open the pouch with blood-covered hands. Then he whistled approvingly at what he found. "Twenty-seventh century?" he asked. Not that he was waiting for an answer, mind. The exact time it came from didn't matter as much as the fact that it was nicely advanced. Instead, he produced a molycutter and a smart bandage from the the box, and proceeded to stab Helen in the leg.
The neat trick about a molycutter is that it can be tuned to recognized and interact with only specific molecules, or to disregard specific molecules. And a medical molycutter was tuned to disregard human flesh. So, with an eye to speed rather than haste, he cut away the cloth covering the wound.
"Move your hand... now!" he ordered, slapping the smart bandage over the wound. It gripped tight, microscopic hooks grabbing the skin and hanging on like velcro, and tightened.
"There you go, Helen," he beamed. "That'll hold until medical help arrives, easily. And it'll prevent infection and help speed healing." He gave her a half-wink. "Not bad for a few unprepared good samaratins, eh?"
Titania smiles approvingly, relieved that the emergency is over for the time being. "Excellent," she says. "A job worthy of the medical elves of Faerie's Circle." She bends down to return baby Susan to her mother's side for now. "I suppose we should keep her company for now," she adds to her friends. "It would not do to abandon her before she's fully safe."
Mica moved her hands quickly as he slapped on the smart bandage after the bandage was applied she finally could relax. "Well" she said with a pleased sigh of relief as she helped Helen sit up against the building "I'm glad that we were here top help when we were" she said looking at the Doctor and Titania. "I agree with titania to stay with her until medical help arrives." she added to Titania statement.
