Amelia sits at her window sill and waits. It has been weeks since she met the odd man called the Doctor and she is beginning to think her encounter was all in her head as many people had begun to tell her. She sighs in frustration, a short huff soon follows and shakes her head. "No it did happen, he was here." Her voice is firm even though it masks some of her doubt. She sighs and pulls her little red coat and her rain boots on, she then moves into her yard and sits on her favorite dilapidated swing that is probably not safe to use, but she doesn't care. She sighs and looks at her ruined garden shed that would most likely never get fixed for months cause her aunt is just lazy like that. However a small smile crosses her lips since this is more proof that her raggedy man did come. She begins to swing herself a bit and thinks of the night she met her raggedy man.
"It has to be real, I mean a shed doesn't break itself right?" She nods to herself and looks to her house. "And a crack in the wall doesn't just disappear on it's own, not to mention the missing food and apple." She nods to herself ignoring the weird looks from the people passing by. What do they know anyway, none of them know her or what happened. None of them have to deal with the uncertainty of not knowing if a raggedy Doctor would come pick you up. None of them have to deal with the fear of the possibility of a convict hiding in your house, one that a talking eyeball on the other side of a crack is looking for. She looks at the shed again as she continues to swing. "I just want to go see the stars, I don't want to be here anymore." A soft tear rolls down her cheek as she thinks about the possibility of not seeing the Doctor. Her little heart beats a bit quicker at the thought of the weird blue box with a swimming pool in the library. She feels a dull ache at the memory of that wheezing noise the smoking box had made as it disappeared, a sound that still haunted her dream. Slowly tears begin to roll down her cheeks unchecked.
"I'd do anything to leave this place, anything." She begins to pump her legs harder and faster sending herself further into the air as if trying to launch herself into the sky from her swing. "I don't even care who owns the spaceship I just want to leave this boring place!" With a thrust she throws herself off the swing and into the air landing on the ground with a thud and billow of dirt. "I am soooo bored right now. Come on raggedy man! Come and get me, or someone please!" She angrily begins to sketch in the dirt a picture of the magical blue box her raggedy Doctor came out of. She ignores the tears, angry they are there in the first place but unable to make them stop, she ignores the thudding of her heart and ache it brings. No she focuses on the picture, and ignores the tear drops of betraying tears that speckle the drawing. Finally she cannot hide the sniffles that escape her and she dips her head beginning to cry from her loneliness.
Elysia was bored. She wasn't just saying that because she had nobody to hang around with today, but she was actually, genuinely at a loss of what to do. Which of course resulted in boredom. So, she'd decided to wander around a little bit. She hadn't meant to end up in the past, of course, and at first she hadn't even noticed. But then when she realized how different things were (not by much, but Elysia could tell even by little details), she knew her powers had whisked her away to the past. She huffed, but then she brightened, wondering if there would be anything more fun here. She glanced around when she heard a crack of thunder, far away. She knew what thunder was, but that didn't make it any less intriguing. She'd never been outside in a thunderstorm before. "This will be fun." she decided, ignoring the man who stared at her like she was insane. She was just wandering along, minding her own business, when a little voice filled her ears. Elysia, intrigued, started walking towards the voice.
What she found, though, broke her little genie heart. It was a little redhead girl, and she appeared to be crying as she drew something in the dirt. Finally, the girl lowered her head and started to sniffle. Elysia bit her lip, nearly in tears herself. Seeing other people cry always made Elysia feel sad, too. The teenager hesitated, before walking slowly towards the little girl. She knelt beside her, careful not to ruin the drawing in the dirt, and she placed a hand on the redhead's shoulder. "Hey, it's okay. Don't cry, sweetie." Elysia said softly, rubbing the girl's shoulder in what would hopefully be a comforting way. She looked around; a swing, a broken shed, and a nice looking house...Elysia's eyes moved down to the drawing, and she smiled softly. "That's a pretty drawing. What's it of?" she asked curiously.
She thought hard, trying to figure out what to do that would make this girl stop crying and make her laugh instead, or something. Then Elysia had an idea. It was a long shot, since she still wasn't in full control of her powers. But you have to try, she thought to herself determinedly. So, she focused her energy, thinking very hard, trying her best to get it right. A few moments after, a small kitten appeared in front of Amelia, mewing softly and purring. Elysia grinned. "Hey, it worked! You like kittens, right?" she checked, smiling at the redhead. "I'm Elysia, by the way." she introduced. At least you didn't forget to introduce yourself this time...remember the time in Egypt? Her mind scolded her and Elysia ignored it. She was just going to focus on the little girl who was crying, find out what was wrong and...maybe take her on an adventure or something. That always helped Elysia when she was sad, so perhaps it would help the little redhead girl too? She hoped so. She hated seeing people upset, especially children.
Amelia let her tears fall, she is only eight and a half years old after all crying is natural. She is alone anyways so she can show a bit of weakness. Suddenly however a hand is on her shoulder and rubbing calming circles in her back, much like a mother or a sister would. She feels herself begin to calm down and feel safe, something her rubbish aunt never made her feel. She turns her tear-stained face towards this new woman and blinks red rimmed eyes at her. She is at a loss for what to say, though now she sees sister rather than a mum. The teenager standing behind her asks her what the picture is of and she looks back at it with a shy smile. "It's of the Raggedy Doctor and his magic blue box, it has a pool in the library." She says this in a matter of fact voice that leaves no room for dispute. She looks back at the woman and adds "he promised to take me away from here and travel the stars...but I think he got lost cause he's rather late." She feels her firm voice break at the end and another wave of tears begin to leak from her eyes.
She hugs her knees and stares at the drawing wishing the Doctor would really spring from the dirt like from the stories. She then hears a mewling and purring come and looks towards it seeing a small kitten in front of her. She blinks at it at first fearing she had indeed gone nutters for a second then she reaches out at strokes the soft silky fur on the kitten's back and smiles reassured the kitten is in fact real. She picks up the little red kitten with black strips and sets it on her lap. She giggles softly and begins to pet it. "I'll name you Tiger-lily like the flower." She forgets the Doctor for a bit as she focuses on the little red kitten in her lap and chuckles "and Lily for short." She looks at the teenager as she introduces herself as Elysia and asks "how did you do this?" She then remembers her manners and says "my name is Amelia Pond." She looks at the teenager as she waits for an answer and continues to stroke the kitten's head as its purrs vibrate the tiny body under her fingers.
When the little tear-stained face turned to look at Elysia, the genie felt her heart melting. The poor girl seemed so lonely, so very sad. She was determined to make the redhead feel even just a tiny bit better. When she saw the shy smile, Elysia smiled kindly back and listened to the girl explaining. Her eyes lit up at the description. "Oh, he sounds absolutely marvelous!" she exclaimed. Lissy was very open minded, and there was no way she wasn't going to believe what this little girl was saying. After all, children didn't usually lie about this sort of thing - not in her experience. And even if they did, there was a certain way of knowing. This little ginger was certainly not lying, and Elysia could see that instantly. She then bit her lip. "It's very easy to get lost, you know. And if he promised you that he'd take you away, then he will. The key here is to be patient and most of all, trusting. You need to believe and trust that he will return for you, and then time will pass by faster, and he will." she told the younger girl wisely.
When the little girl hugged her knees, Elysia sighed softly. But when the kitten seemed to make the redhead feel better, Lissy's expression brightened considerably. "Tiger Lily...and Lily for short. That's a lovely name. You're very creative." she praised. After all, she knew for a fact that all children loved getting praised. Well, most children did at least. She knew the feeling; getting praised made your heart lift and make you feel confident and proud. She remembered feeling that way all the time when she was younger, because of her parents' praise. When Amelia asked how Elysia had done it, and then introduced herself, the genie smiled, sitting properly beside her. "Amelia Pond! Oh, that's such a lovely name." she said. "Well, Amelia, I can do quite a lot of things. I'm something called a genie, you see, and that gives me certain...abilities to do things humans can't. Want another demonstration?" Elysia was quite happy to do whatever it took to make Amelia more happy. She hated seeing children cry; it made her so sad.
"Oh, he sounds absolutely marvelous!" she exclaimed.
Amelia suddenly gives a large wet smile to the woman, for a very brief moment anyway, at being believed about the Doctor. She gently stroked the small kitten and buried her tearstained face in its silky fur. The strong fast heart pounds in her ear, or was that its tiny purr? She didn’t know but didn’t care because it comforted her. “He was wonderful, and strange, and funny. And he lives in a blue police box.” Her eyes sadden and she scrapes at the dirt.
"It's very easy to get lost, you know. And if he promised you that he'd take you away, then he will. The key here is to be patient and most of all, trusting. You need to believe and trust that he will return for you, and then time will pass by faster, and he will." she told the younger girl wisely. She pouted at this looking at the other girl. “But it’s so hard to be patient, so very hard. And everyone keeps calling me crazy. They want to send me to a psy…psych…psycha…mind doctor!” She huffed in frustration and looked at the small sleeping kitten with love. “But I’m not crazy. I don’t need a mind doctor. I just want my raggedy Doctor.” She looked at the other girl and tried to look fierce. “I won’t let them make me forget him.” She stroked the kitten again, receiving an irritated mew from the kitten for waking her.
"Tiger Lily...and Lily for short. That's a lovely name. You're very creative." she praised. Amelia looked at the girl and then leaned over and hugged her. The movement earned her a yowl of displeasure as it jostled the kitten. The little kitten hissed and moved over to lie in the sun. She watched it and sighed. “I didn’t mean to anger the Lily.” She tried to sidle closer to the kitten but it flicked it’s small tail and ignored her.
"Amelia Pond! Oh, that's such a lovely name." she said. "Well, Amelia, I can do quite a lot of things. I'm something called a genie, you see, and that gives me certain...abilities to do things humans can't. Want another demonstration?"
The notion of a demonstration distracted Amelia from the kitten, as did the thought that her new friend was actually a genie. “Oh yes please! Can you make me a flying rug or…or a pet elephant?” She looked at her kitten and decided an elephant might squash it. “No maybe not an elephant. Can you take me to the moon?” Yes the moon seemed good, after all wasn’t that were the Doctor was going?
