It was really all the Doctor’s fault. The TARDIS had stranded them on a planet during one of her moody kicks and, like so many of the Doctor’s travels, it had turned out to be Not A Coincidence™ and that they needed someone like the Doctor. That was, someone not like Fitz. So, with the Doctor going undercover and indepth into the planet’s situations, Fitz was supposed to be mixing with the locals to get information from them that could pertain to the situation at hand.
And what better way to get information than to go to the nearest seedy bar and sit in the corner with the new girl? The Doctor never could go anywhere without picking up a bird – it was an enviable trait, especially to Fitz, who would kill for that sort of enigmatic charm. It’d taken a bit of convincing, but alas, they were at the seedy bar sitting in the corner. He hadn’t heard much except for the occasional grumble about the emperor (who was a rather unpleasant man with six legs and a plump bottom).
Fitz spun his glass around in circles on their table, amusing himself with the planet’s strange gravity. “Have any idea what we’re even supposed to be listening for? Besides the generic ‘I want to overthrow the government’ thing.”
[ooc| Here have this unfancy and lame starter, @rosaballet]
Despite her relatively closed off and strictly structured life, Rosa had adapted considerably well to travel in time and space with the Doctor and his companion. Her life had quickly become jaded with the constant dancing regime, now was her chance to let it go and really live. Leaving had been a no-brainer. Barely a week had passed and she hadn't had enough time to comprehend it all. Rosa had kept some sense of familiarity with home in her dress sense, or to be more precise - her dresses. Today's was a light pink and white floral number fashioned with a pair of boots and a leather jacket, delicate yet practical. Perfect.
The other two occupants of the TARDIS had intrigued her. The Doctor always talked, even to fill the empty silences, but Fitz was still a bit of an enigma. And when the Doctor had left to go and do doctor-y things, Rosa had been left with him. At first she had been adamant that she wasn't going to the bar, that she was hear to see the sights and culture of the planet and that she had half a mind to get up and leave him where he stood. Of course, somehow his charm had won her around and they were no perched in the corner of the seediest bar Rosa had ever seen clutching a glass of a foul smelling liquid that the locals seemed to adore. Just bringing the glass near her face made her feel nauseous, but Fitz seemed ever curious. What she would give for a decent cup of tea.
They were meant to be gathering information, or that was what she had gleaned from the faced paced speech by the Doctor as he had ran energetically out of the door of the TARDIS, leaving the two companions there. Fitz seemed much better at interpreting what he said than her, and thus the two had gone on their way as the TARDIS had left them stranded. The gravity was taking some getting used to, but other than a few discomforts Rosa was coping fine. A shame the ship had taken all their tea with it.
Rosa listened intently, using Fitz as an almost shield as any of the more dangerous looking locals came too close but had picked up nothing more than they had expected. Great. She eyed the drink with damning curiosity, but shunted it over to towards Fitz who appeared to be having much more fun with his. "Not really, I'm getting about the same as you. Nothing useful. How is this going to help the Doctor anyway?" The girl sighed, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear and casting a glance out over the bar. "Why do you do this? You know, travel around with him?" She asked him on the spur of the moment, casting a curious glance sideways at him, pouting, and then looking back out over the bar.
Whilst Rosa was fairly happy to be kept in the dark about some things that perhaps weren't important, she didn't really know much about her two travel companions, other than the fact that the Doctor was an alien and that Fitz was from Earth, like her. "You must have seen some amazing things." She spoke quietly, shaking her head softly as if she couldn't quite believe she was here. Hopefully, she would get to too.
“Don’t know,” he admitted, taking her cup and mixing the drinks. There was a great bubbling and froth spilled over the edges of the cup. Well… that probably wasn’t very healthy. He sighed and continued spinning his now-ruined drink around. “People say things when they think no one’s listening,” Fitz told her, looking up at her with a small grin. “Especially when they’re drunk.”
At her next question, he shrugged his shoulders. Their friendship was a funny one, and Fitz couldn’t quite explain the codependency they’d developed for one another. Fitz needed the Doctor, and the Doctor needed him just as much most of the time. Especially after the amnesia. “He’s my best friend,” Fitz said simply. “I’d never leave him.”
“Heh, yeah. Real amazing things. Once I threw a concert for a bunch of sentient tigers,” Fitz said, grinning. “And, blimey, another time I died a few times, then got punted through the Time Vortex, I was inducted into an evil cult, cloned a few times… oh, and another time, I met a werewolf. We didn’t get on. Then there was this plant-snake creature thing that was mutated from the Raab. Then a bird we were traveling with turned into a TARDIS.”
“… but that doesn’t happen often, if you’re worried.”
