Sedna looked down at the readouts on her console. Her hearts sunk a million miles an hour, she was too late. No there had to be some sort of malfunction, the crash had affected her scanners or something. She shook her head, mentally she was aware her cam had been burnt away, possibly during her recent regeneration, she would get it replaced later. She looked at her uniform, it was in tatters. However that wasn’t the issue at the moment, well besides not wanting to return in a tattered uniform, what was the problem was her missing planet.
The scanners had to be wrong, this couldn’t be right at all. Had perhaps the High Council been planning something? Had there been a plan to hide the planet and she not been aware of it? In her hearts Sedna knew that this was not possible, she’d have been warned not to stay off planet for long if they had been planning that. Regardless her TARDIS would have had a message recalling her. She scanned again and found the same read out, Gallifrey was gone. Everything, everyone, all of it, just gone. Rage burned in her hearts, fire to match her new hair flashed into her eyes faster than an imploding sun. Sedna was not going to let this stand.
“I will find Gallifrey, or kill the person who did this. I did not watch people die, kill Daleks, fight for this planet to give up on it now. There will be retribution.” She turned her War TARDIS away from the empty space that once held her home; she turned to the unknown deep and sighed. Suddenly the lyrics of an Earth song filtered into her muddled and angry mind. A song about a being that shared her name, the Goddess of the Sea named Sedna. She found herself chanting them, they comforted her.
“Sedna roamed the deep, the cold forgotten deep, no-one wants to be alone
Sedna roamed the deep, the cold forgotten deep, no-one wants to be alone”
She continued chanting softly to herself as she set the coordinates for the very planet the song originated from. After a few minutes of this she stopped, she looked at her shaking hands. She was alone, for the first time in her entire six hundred years of life she was truly alone. Tears fell from her eyes like the torrents of a raging river. Her friends, comrades, commanding officers, family, all of them were gone. She had failed them. NO! She had done everything in her power to save them. She refused to go down that path of self-loathing and self-pity. She didn’t do this, this was not her doing, and she was not to blame. But Rassilon help the person who did.
She turned her head one last time to her planet that was no longer there. She dipped her head once, wiped the drying tears from her face, squared her soldiers, and then saluted the blank space. She then turned back to her console and left the location, for now. The past was in the past, she couldn’t change this time line, her time line, but she could be darn sure to avenge the loss of her home land. She looked down at her console and sighed. The trip was a good ten minutes give or take. “That is enough time to change into something a bit more fitting.” With that she set the ship to autopilot and headed to the wardrobe.
As she entered the large room that somewhat resembled an Earth clothes shop without the checkout or restrooms, and definitely lacking in rude customers demanding what they want like spoiled children, she looked around to the female section and headed there. She found the section with her favorite Gallifreyan robes; however she bypassed them and headed to the section labeled clearly as Earth. See unlike most of the people she had met that traveled Sedna didn’t pick a single outfit and just wear that. No she found she preferred to blend in and so had organized every TARDIS she owned to have the wardrobe sectioned off by known planets, this is what gave it the shop appearance.
“Now let’s see. The item in question depends on the time period. Clothing appearance changes faster than the humans themselves on this planet.” She gave an amused chuckle as she remembered learning about the planet at the Academy. She was certain she wasn’t the only one who found the humans frivolous. However even she admired their weapons prowess, even if they were primitive at best, they were definitely warriors at times.
In the end she picked a long floral dress that had various purples and blues in it. She quickly stripped off the ruined uniform and climbed into the silky dress. She definitely had to hand it to the humans; they knew how to make clothes comfortable and formal at the same time. Noting the lack of places to hide her weapons she headed to the earth accessories, modified to be bigger on the inside of course, and grabbed a purse, small and black, that would go with her new dress. As she looked at herself in the mirror she decided to indulge herself, she was after all off duty; and placed a silver armband on her left wrist. She then straightened out her fiery locks and added a flower clip to it, one that matched her dress of course. She then looked to the shoes and tilted her head. She immediately factored out the high heels, those would put her at a disadvantage should she need to fight or make a hasty retreat. She spotted a pair of silvery white flats, she fell in love with them and quickly put them on. They looked like shoes from Earth’s past but with a modern flare to them. They were perfect.
As she admired herself in the mirror she felt the ship begin its landing sequence and hurried to the console room. As soon as she reached the console she began to re-arm herself and looked at the readout. This was definitely Earth London around the beginning of the twenty-first century, somewhere around two thousand five. She smirked and stepped out into the warm sun. A smile at the peaceful city spread across her face and she headed towards the first location she could find, the Eye of London she remembered it was called, a nice vacation was what she needed after the War. After this she’d begin her search.
