Species: Trakenite
Planet of Origin: Traken

Physical Description:
Nyssa is one of the Doctor's more petite companions, barely standing over five feet tall. She has an open face and a gentle expression. She usually wears her hair as curls, although during her time aboard the TARDIS, she experimented with her hair styles quite a bit. To the point that by her 70s, Nyssa tended to prefer her hair straighter. Her sense of fashion is certainly not quite human, closer to the Doctor's than their other friends in many ways. She wore a rich velvet outfit associated with her status on Traken for quite a long time, altering her fairy skirt for pants for efficiency fairly early on. When Tegan rejoins the TARDIS, she tries a few outfits before settling on a lovely grey and butter yellow suit dress combination. Over the 50 years she was apart from the Doctor, Nyssa grew even more comfortable with human fashion, learning how to present herself within those norms, although it's less of a priority for her in those days.
Personality:
Nyssa is a gentle soul and incredibly empathetic. (Of course, the fact she is, in fact, an empath certainly contributes to this.) She and the Doctor communicate on similar wavelengths, and are both - in the Doctor's words - great scientists and Champions of Good. Nyssa is a very kind and incredibly loyal person. She can be more than a bit unintentionally snobbish, particularly early on in her adventures, relating more to the upper class and not understanding the Doctor's obsession with humans. She grew up in an imperialistic utopia, and as such is very naive. Nyssa generally exerts a calming influence over the TARDIS team. She's one of the few who will actually obey the Doctor's instructions to stay put, although she has grown out of that by the time they reunite. She's determined to do the right thing, but she doesn't always think of the big picture.
History:
I started travelling with him after my parents died. We’re…friends. Companions.
Nyssa grew up in the center of the Traken Union, the daughter of Consul Tremas. Her mother died when she was young, despite best efforts, leaving Nyssa incredibly attached to her father. She was happy enough for her him when he found love again with Kassia, but her bond with her stepmother never approached her love for Tremas.
The first TARDIS Nyssa ever saw was technically the Master's masquerading as a Melkur. A being of pure evil that, in such close proximity to Traken's Source, solidified to stone. She assisted the Doctor and Adric in helping the dying Keeper of Traken who guards the Source. Unfortunately, the Master succeeded in his plan enough to take on new form, possessing and de-aging in the process, Tremas.
Shortly thereafter, Tremas went missing. Nyssa was brought back to the Doctor and Adric by the Watcher, the future Shayde of the Fifth Doctor on Logopolis. There, Nyssa learned to her horror that her father's body was under the control of the Master, who had manipulated her with the familiar face. Shortly after this, the Master wiped out a significant portion of the universe, including Nyssa's home star system. She watched as it was blotted out.
How can I grieve for a whole world? How can I ever move on? How can I honour their memory. What could I possibly do?
Nyssa is extremely sensitive to psychic communication and possession, partially because she was manipulated by the godlike figure once in control of Traken, and is especially weak early on in her travels with Five because of this tampering. Something the Doctor takes pains to help her with. She stays with the Doctor through Adric's tragic (and, she thought at the time, needless) death and Tegan's original departure. She spends her first few years on the TARDIS wanting nothing more than to separate her father from the Master, but by the time she makes her first departure from the Doctor, her focus has changed instead to using her biochemical skills to save people. Nyssa thwarts, at minimum, three incredibly potent plagues, sacrificing herself entirely with the last in a calculated move. In the end, she saves the lives of more people than the Master destroyed on Logopolis, a fitting tribute to her loss, and the only kind of vengeance she ever took against him.
In the fifty years she spent apart from the Doctor, Nyssa found love and companionship in a man named Lasarti, and they had several children together. She still travelled and used her skills to help the universe, alongside a robot companion named Loki, whom she lost when she was reunited with the Doctor. She was sadly unable to ever return home to her family.
The Doctor is an incredibly important person to her. He's there for her first kiss, and she's there for his regeneration. She's incredibly protective of him, especially in his fifth incarnation. Nyssa has threatened the High Council of Gallifrey on his behalf and thwarted the laws of Time more than once.
I'm very proud to have been a part of your family, Doctor.
Addition Medical Information:
Nyssa is an empath with latent telepathic abilities, and she ages at a slower rate than humans.

She and Turlough had gotten separated from the Doctor and Tegan again. It was just as well, Tegan wanted to bite Turlough's head off. Nyssa thought the boy would settle soon enough. Everyone adjusted differently, after all. They had just left the Gardens of the Dead, and the red headed boy had been nothing but kind to her. Well, from the little she could remember, but apparently he'd saved her life. Nyssa didn't see the need to borrow trouble.
If you gave people the chance, they often surprised you and rose to the occasion.
"Aren't we going the wrong way? The Doctor was headed towards the town hall in the center of town. We're headed towards the fringes."
"You heard what Esrik said," Nyssa countered patiently. "They need our help more than the Doctor does right now."
If she heard his muttered protests, the young woman politely pretended she hadn't, pushing further towards her own goal. There was a slight smile on her face when Turlough groaned a moment later and proceeded to follow her again.
No. There really no reason for Tegan to be so distrusting.
