The Phantom had a look of annoyance on her face as she listened to the several sounds of people shopping. She had her eye closed tight, and she had been rubbing her temple with her index and middle fingers. They were so noisy, why were humans, even half humans, always so noisy?
This version of the Phantom, was not the most friendly. And the red head did have a knack for shooting those who made any sort of harmful threat with her lazer screwdriver. Luckily for whoever it was recieving the end of that shot, she normally set it on stun. Sadly she had this sort of self loathing, that she had to deal with.
Her mind was flooded with all sorts of guilt and pressure. Mainly self induced pressure, but pressure none the less.
Right now, however, she was trying to drown out the noise around her. It worked for a little bit, until she heard the intercom. An announcement broke her out of her thoughts, a sale on jackets in a nearby shop. If she could destroy the intercom with her mind... she would have. Though that wouldn't have helped with her headache.
"Stay out of trouble!" her father had shouted, giving her a whack across her cheek before he and Sasha left to go to Clare's Accessories. Why? Because Sasha was pregnant with a baby girl. Of course, they were ecstatic.
That was why Rae was wandering around, a sad look on her face, as blood trickled down her cheek. She didn't want to be second best. She didn't want to be with them.
She wanted to be alone, with her TARDIS. She'd be happier. Upon seeing a woman, seemingly very angry about something, Rae timidly approached her and tapped her arm.
"E-excuse me miss, are you alright?" she asked, then prepared herself to be shouted at or pushed, even though she was trying to help.
"E-excuse me miss, are you alright?" she asked, then prepared herself to be shouted at or pushed, even though she was trying to help.
Phantom looked at the girl who was asking. Staring at her for a moment, as if not sure what to say. "Just a headache. I'll get over it."
Phantom observed the young girl for a brief second, something was off. She realized exactly what was off as she took a deep calming breath. This girl was a Timelord.. Well part Timelord.
"So which one are you then?" she asked suspiciously.
Rae nodded. "Well, okay, I-i mean that's good that it isn't so bad." she said, smiling a bit. She was stumbling over her words slightly until she took a deep breath in. Another Time Lord.
"Wh-what do you mean which one? I'm not evil or anything if that's what you're thinking." Rae said quickly. "Not that I'd get any chance to be bad anyway, with my dad around." she muttered.
Rae nodded. "Well, okay, I-i mean that's good that it isn't so bad." she said, smiling a bit. She was stumbling over her words slightly until she took a deep breath in. Another Time Lord.
"I suppose. It could be worse." she replied with a sigh. Phantom couldn't help but feel like she was scaring the poor girl. Hearing her stutter and all. "Do you always stutter?"
Sadly, even though she hadn't meant it to sound rude, or annoyed... Her tone still sounded that way.
"Wh-what do you mean which one? I'm not evil or anything if that's what you're thinking." Rae said quickly. "Not that I'd get any chance to be bad anyway, with my dad around." she muttered.
The Phantom rubbed the bridge of her nose, obviously, this Timelord was young. Very young. "I never accused you of being evil... Now did I?" Suddenly she started walking, wanting to get out of the crowded shopping mall. However, she stopped and looked back towards the girl. "You comin'? I have some other things to ask you."
"No...just when I'm nervous." she said, her stutter fading completely. Rae tucked her hair behind her ear, then shrugged. "Sorry. I always jump to conclusions I'm afraid. I didn't mean to put words in your mouth." she said.
Then Rae nodded and walked along with the woman. "What's your name, anyway? I'm Rae." she said, smiling politely. "Pleased to meet you...?" she said, since she didn't know the woman's name.
"No...just when I'm nervous." she said, her stutter fading completely. Rae tucked her hair behind her ear, then shrugged. "Sorry. I always jump to conclusions I'm afraid. I didn't mean to put words in your mouth." she said.
"It's fine.. I guess." She shrugged, a little glad she stopped her stutter. However, if she was going to be completely honest with herself... She didn't mind it all that much. Reminded her of her first incarnation.
Then Rae nodded and walked along with the woman. "What's your name, anyway? I'm Rae." she said, smiling politely. "Pleased to meet you...?" she said, since she didn't know the woman's name.
"Phantom." She replied, before realizing that didn't exactly sound normal. "Maria, if you prefer."
Maria wasn't sure what to make of this girl. "Out of curiosity, and please know I don't intend to sound rude when I ask this.." she paused to open the doors to the mall entrance. "Why did you come up to me?"
"Maria...nice to meet you, then." she said, nodding. Rae liked the name Phantom, but...Maria sounded more normal and she didn't want to draw attention to them, honestly.
Then she paused to think. "Well, because you looked depressed or frustrated about something. I just though maybe I could help cheer you up." she said, honestly.
She didn't know, actually, why it was only her who went up to people even if they were complete strangers and comforted them. Honestly? Rae was proud when she did.
Then she paused to think. "Well, because you looked depressed or frustrated about something. I just though maybe I could help cheer you up." she said, honestly.
Maria had to stare at Rae for a couple seconds. Before she started to laugh a little. "You're strange. Anyone ever tell you that?" Again, she wasn't meaning to come off rude. It just happened.
"So where are you headed?" She asked, then another realization hit her. "Why are you off on your own?"
Rae smiled a little. "Thank you!" she said, as if it were a compliment, before she laughed. "No, nobody ever does. Maybe because I'm not really out that much." she said.
Then, the next question made her stiffen. Rae pushed open the doors and stepped outside, waiting for Maria to join her before she spoke. "My dad and his pregnant girlfriend are off getting things for the new baby. They..didn't want me there." she said, her hand going to her cheek. There were slight dots of blood there from her dad hitting her, and a lot of dry blood. Well, not too much.
Rae looked at Maria. "I didn't want to be there anyway."
Rae smiled a little. "Thank you!" she said, as if it were a compliment, before she laughed. "No, nobody ever does. Maybe because I'm not really out that much." she said.
Maria gave a soft smile back at her, deciding to leave that at... Well, that.
"I see..." Maria replied quietly, as if in thought. Following Rae out of the mall, and to outside. "Do you have anywhere else you can stay? A friend? Other family?"
She was only trying to figure out if she actually knew any place she could stay. If not... Phantom was actually considering taking Rae with her.
Rae looked at Maria. "I didn't want to be there anyway."[/b]
"Rae... How old are you?" Maria asked as she led the way, already having made her mind up.
Rae shook her head. "Nope. My mum has a boyfriend too and they treat me the same way as my dad and Sasha." she said. "I don't have anyone else." because, at this point, Rae had no idea she had a brother.
"I'm 17." Rae said. "One year away from being able to move out. But I suppose they'll keep me captive. Since they like having someone to take their anger out on..." she said, trailing off. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be telling you this.." she said, following Maria.
Rae shook her head. "Nope. My mum has a boyfriend too and they treat me the same way as my dad and Sasha." she said. "I don't have anyone else." because, at this point, Rae had no idea she had a brother.
Phantom sighed, as she unlocked what looked like the outside doors to one of the shops. She gave a quick wave to tell Rae to keep following, before stepping inside her TARDIS. She made sure to listen as her new... Well she wouldn't say friend. She didn't know the poor girl all that well.
"I'm 17." Rae said. "One year away from being able to move out. But I suppose they'll keep me captive. Since they like having someone to take their anger out on..." she said, trailing off. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be telling you this.." she said, following Maria.
"No.. You probably shouldn't. But..." Maria started, looking back as she walked over to her center console. "Sometimes you need to. So you can get it off your mind. Then it can't make you crazy inside out... If that makes any sense."
Rae closed the TARDIS doors behind her and followed Maria up to the console. She nodded. "Yes, it does make sense." she said. "And it applies to me." she added as an afterthought.
"I didn't actually think that...well, you know, anybody would ever listen to what I had to say. Thanks." Rae said, and she offered a smile to Maria.
"Yes, it does make sense."[/b] Rae said, "And it applies to me."[/b]
"I believe it applies to quite a lot of members from several species.." Maria commented dryly, as she starting typing on the keyboard. "Not just yourself."
Maria hadn't meant to sound rude, or even meant that to be taken mean. Sadly, this particular incarnation of the Phantom, was much more cynical than her previous two. In fact her previous incarnations were either timid, and quiet, or excited, and a trouble maker. Funny how regeneration can change a girl.
"I didn't actually think that..."[/b] The younger Timelady started, "Well, you know, anybody would ever listen to what I had to say. Thanks."[/b]
The Phantom looked up at the smiling girl, not sure if she should smile back. So Maria gave her a curt little nod, "You say you're seventeen, yes?"
In Timelord standards, she should have been in the academy, on her ninth year. Yet here she was, absolutely clueless, completely innocent, and just a baby. Luckily, she could learn, and Maria could teach her. Surely, it wouldn't be that hard.. Right? After all, she learned rather quick, and it'd be interesting to have student. To have a protegee.
"Alright, I've decided. Since I'd rather not stick you back with whatever dim-witted humanoids attempted to raise you." She explained, "This way, you'll get a proper[/b] education. I'm willing to teach you if... you're willing to learn."[/color] Maria paused and opened the TARDIS doors from the console.
Taking a seat in the desk chair, she crossed one leg over the other, and touched her fingertips together. She looked Rae in the eyes. "As far as I see it.. You have two choices." She continued, "You can stay with me, learn from me, so you'll be more prepared on your own. Or..."
Then Maria looked towards the open TARDIS doors, "You can leave, and go back to the life you were living. Back into the same repetitive patterns, in the same boring life, with the same abusive parents."
The Phantom's gaze went back to Rae, "Your choice, your decision." She leaned back into the chair, placing her hands in her lap. "I'm very busy, so it'd be best if you choose quickly."
