Species: Djinn – Ifrit.

Physical Description: Although Nina is fifty-four years old, she has the appearance of a woman in her early twenties or her late teenage years while she is in her humanoid form. She is about the average height and weight for a woman. Her skin is pale as she doesn’t venture outdoors often. Her hair is a long and wavy brown. She normally has it tied in a bun or a ponytail to keep it from her face. She has bright blue eyes normally, although sometimes when she loses control of her energy they turn dark brown.
She is, however, rarely in her human form. As she is merely a fledgling, she doesn’t have full control of her powers. In her Jinn form, she is merely a mass of energy with a green tint. She can take the form of many animals and humans, although she can’t stay for a prolonged period of time. As Nina cannot stay in the form of a human for long, her owner has allowed her to use his body.
Personality: Nina has an uncanny ability to perceive people’s attitudes. She uses this ability to help her master choose whom to trust. She picks up clues such as expressions, gestures, and posture. She is a very willful Djinn, and she does what she decides needs to be done, regardless of laws or rules. She’s blunt and straightforward – if she’s got a problem with something, you can be quite certain she’ll fix it. Or try to, in any case.
She has a strong penchant for adventure. Her life moves at a very fast pace, and as such she expects everyone to move at her speed. Nina talks and moves fast, and she rarely waits around for slow people. She loves a good story. She’s an awful liar – even minor ones make her shake, her face turns a ghastly shade of red, and whatever form she’s in starts to dissipate.
Nina is very protective of her master. Due to being very young and inexperienced, Nina is very emotionally volatile. When she’s angry – and the easiest things can set her off – she loses control of her powers. She’s still too young for that to be a hazardous problem. The worst that she could do is make it snow in the middle of July, or bring on a heat wave in the end of December. She’s been known to cause a few power outages when she gets excited.
She’s much like a small child or kitten. Although she is over fifty years old in human terms, that’s the Jinn equivalent of a toddler. She’s easily fascinated by the human world, and she’s quite the handful for her young master. He once found Nina trying to walk across the power lines.
Nina likes to feel close with her master, and she’s never far from him. She likes it best when she merges with her Lamp, while it’s in the form of a violin, and Sébastien uses her in one of his concerts. Due to her beginning, she also has a fascination with kissing and other carnal pleasures, although she doesn’t understand them.
History: Nina’s conception was a very odd one. Jinn reproduction usually happens only willingly, either asexually or with two or more. However, she was very much an accident. The Head of the Council was in the throes of passion when he lost control of himself and… Nina was born.
The Head of the Council refused to acknowledge her existence and she was assigned a Caretaker and put inside a pocket universe created by the Head of the Council for her training. Once a Djinn reaches the age of thirty, they are removed from the pocket universe to live on Earth with the humans. The Caretakers take care of them until their two hundredth birthday.
Nina decided, being the willful little Fledgling she was, that she didn’t need her Caretaker. So, she simply got up and left. Her Caretaker didn’t bother to look for her. The Head of the Council would be notified and, if Nina proved to be too great a liability, she would be removed from the human world and taken back to a pocket universe. Ultimately, it was decided that Nina was little threat and she was left to her own devices.
She wasn’t on her own but a year or two when she heard the screeching of a violin being tuned. Intrigued, she wandered into the theatre and kidnapped the eleven year old fixing the violin. To make an incredibly long story short, she finally convinced him that she wasn’t some sort of crazed fan after his body (whatever that meant) and that she was, actually, a ‘genie’.
His mother still does not know of Nina’s existence, and both of them feel that’s for the better. Although his mother asked where the new violin – Nina’s Lamp – came from, Sébastien decided to use his mother’s suspicion of him to his full advantage… and tell the truth. Needless to say, his mother didn’t believe the story about a magical genie taking the form of a violin, and chalked it up to a very generous fan.
Additional medical information: She is allergic to salt.
