Physical Description: At first glance, Seluna appears quite ordinary. She is a small young woman, standing close to 5'2” and weighing about 110 lbs with a petite slender build. Her hair is a pale platinum blond that falls in messy ringlets of curls to about her mid back. She often keeps her hair pinned up into a loose and whimsical bun tucked full of flowers, her personal favorite being the Cornflower. Other times, when she can get her hands on one, she will tuck her hair into a loose baggy styled hat.
Once you get close enough to actually see her eyes, there is no mistaking that Seluna is not human. The eyes are a brilliant, almost neon, shade of bright green with an eerie golden iridescent undertone. Her eyes are wide and full of wonder and curiosity, and you can always tell that she's thinking when you look at her. Her skin is a soft milky white complexion, almost like porcelain, and is quite sensitive to the sun, often preferring to stay in the shade if she can.
Seluna's native language is called Linali, lightly spoken with gentle rolls from the tongue but harshly punctuated. However, she has learned to speak English and French due to a unique method. Her people can collect and learn information through touch, more effectively by kiss. Her accent is a soft and airy Irish that caries over in her French.
She is never without her journal or sketch book. There's really nothing too special about them, but their contents often baffle most who browse through it. She likes to keep notes of the 'oddities' she encounters on Earth and compares them to things on her home world.
Personality:
- Fearless: Seluna can often seem reckless with her fearlessness. She loves to explore and lives by the rather cliché motto, 'You only live once'. She will not hesitate to climb a tree or go exploring, she will walk right up to stranger and engage in conversation. Much to Tomaz's dismay. The same could be said with her fearlessness of animals.
- Inquisitive: There is so much about Earth that perplexes her, which she finds quite infuriating as she is very smart. She will not hesitate to ask why something is the way it is and will pester someone until she gets an answer. If an acceptable answer can not be found, she will take to investigating on her own, often trying to dress incognito to learn things about this bizarre planet. Like wearing false beards and sunglasses, thinking no one would notice her.
- Optimistic: Seluna has the habit of seeing the best in everything and everyone, even when they cannot see it within themselves. Her blithe optimism often makes people think she is nothing more than an ignorant and naïve child, but in truth, she's quite perceptive and unfailingly kind, despite the cruelties she often sees in the strange world around her. Her optimism is often a bright ray of sunshine that many people lack in their lives. Seluna is always happy to brighten someone's day. There is not much that upsets Seluna. At least, that is what she would have you believe. It is simply not in her nature to complain. She always has a bright smile on her face and will often try to point out the best possible scenario in even the most grim situations.
- Intelligent: Seluna is exceedingly bright. She was one of the top students on her home world. She has an uncanny understanding of time and space manipulation and bridging rifts. However, being trapped on a planet with technology that, by comparison, is far more primitive than her own, her explanations and descriptions lead most who speak with her to believe she is.... 'Not all there”
- Boisterous: Seluna is loud and playful, and can sometimes be a little rough. She knows she's small but very much wants it to be known that she doesn’t need looking after like some helpless child, even though, sometimes, she really does. But she would never admit to it. While she is never mean about it and would never actually hurt someone, she won't hesitate to smack someone in the arm to get a point across.
- Honest: It's not that Seluna is incapable of lying, she simply doesn’t see the point. When asked a question, she tries to give the most straight forward answer she possibly can. But if it is something she would rather not answer, she will simply avoid the question by changing the subject. After all, avoidance is not the same as lying.
History: Seluna hails from a world similar in some ways to Earth. Land masses, water, and oxygen for breathable air. But that's where the similarities topple down. Due to the altitude of most of the continents, the air is extremely thin. Over the eons Karlaithyans have evolved and developed larger lungs with a filter system to utilize the thin air more efficiently. Also, the water a air are alive. Not that they are teeming with life, no. The water and air are in and of themselves fully sentient. These living elements gather up all pollution and form a whirling vortex to jettison the filth into the vacuum of space, leaving the planet pristine. Granted, there is layer just outside the planet somewhat reminiscent of a junkyard, but hey! Who cares so long as the planet's clean, right? Karlaithya is also further away from the sun in her solar system than Earth is to it's sun. One standard year on Karlaithya is the equivalent of three years on earth.
Chocolate is a rare and precious material on her world and is actually used as currency. Diamonds, however, are essentially worthless. They are excellent for building materials and used in excavation do to their nearly indestructible form. But once they have outlived their usefulness, they are crushed and used to line the streets, similar to asphalt. To Seluna, a diamond is nothing more than a shiny but utterly worthless hunk of rock. The technology is also much more advanced than Earth. In Seluna's view, polite as she tried to be about it, she finds earth to be quite archaic and primitive. Items on Earth often baffle her, thinking their function should me much more complex than it is only to find out that they are quite simple in design.
Seluna lived a relatively simple and carefree life. She lived with her mother and father, attended a school for the exceptionally bright and gifted, and spent her days running through the fields exploring, pretending she was on another world. As any child often would, Seluna dreamed of adventure and far away places and solving all the riddles of the universe. But one day, Seluna's wild daydreaming finally came to fruition. She could not see it clearly, only a vague ripple. But Seluna unwittingly stepped right through a vortex displacement field. The Rift led her to Earth and sealed behind her.
When Seluna first found herself in the strange world on the other side of the rift, she noticed three things. The first thing she noticed was the air was much more dense. As she drew in that first breath, the air was thick and she could swear that she could actually feel the air swirling in her lungs. The air on her home world, by comparison, was so thin, breathing in this new air almost made her feel as though she was going to choke on it. But with a few slow and steady breaths, it wasn't so bad. In fact, she felt more energized. She had much larger lungs due to the extra filters that her species had evolved with to process the thin air. With this dense air, her lungs didn't need to work near as hard and Seluna found herself able to hold her breath for longer and could run further without tiring.
The second thing she noticed was the putrid smell of the air. While not unbearable, it was most unpleasant. Karlaithya was a pristine world with sentient air and water that jettisoned any and all pollutants into the vacuum of space to keep her world clean. This primitive and smog ridden planet made those first few breaths rather uncomfortable and would take some getting used to. The third thing she noticed, and this was most distressing, was the intense increase in gravity. She felt heavy, like there was an immense weight on her chest and shoulders. It was a sensation she never fully acclimated to.
She spent three days on this new planet, trying to figure things out. It wasn't like she could go back. So the ever optimistic and cheerful young Karlaithyan took to observing the inhabitants of the strange world. From what she could gather from their crude primitive hand gestures and vague brutish references was that a cap designed from a thin sheet of malleable metal could aid in the understanding of aliens. (Never mind the fact she was observing this conversation from the other side of fenced yard for the mentally ill). She grinned widely and concluded that if this method could possibly be reversed and allow an Alien to communicate with the inhabitants. She stole a shoot of aluminum through the fending and ran off to work on her experiment.
No favorable results. The language that poured from the mouths of the inhabitants of this strange world was nothing but gibberish. But Seluna remained resolute. She would communicate with one of them if it was the last thing she did. On her fourth day of wandering, she got her opportunity.
She had climbed a tall tree, thinking that, perhaps, she simply needed to receive some form of radio signal to begin the process. Instead, she met someone. It turned out the tree she had climbed up, was his home. He had been the first inhabitant she had encountered since her arrival and she greeted quite cheerfully. But he only replied with a confused tilt of his head and strange noises coming from his lips.
Seluna realized she would have to fall back on a rather intimate and awkward method of learning to speak with him. She would have to kiss him. The encounter went from an innocent kiss to try and transfer linguistic information to a heated an intimate hour long encounter. When it was over, Seluna could finally understand the confused babbling from his lips. He was quite scandalized with her.
She apologized and explained that her people could exchange information through empathetic touch. He didn't seem particularly impressed or convinced and insisted she was a Lunatic. She promptly corrected him. "No.. Seluna.. Se.. Lu.. Na" she had enunciated, jabbing him in the chest with her finger, trying to get her point across.
And that was how her grand adventures began. With a friend by her side. His name was Tomaz.
As the weeks rolled by, Seluna began to feel ill with a hint of lower back pain. The linguistic encounter between Tomaz and Seluna resulted in the young Karlaithyan becoming a mother. Seluna was intrigued by the idea and found herself rather content with the idea. A child could be a wonderful adventure. And she was happy that Tomaz seemed adamant in remaining by her side, although she found the behavior a bit odd.
Over time, Seluna could see a change in Tomaz's demeanor. His attentions towards her became far more sentimental and affectionate. Seluna was still confused by the change but she accepted it as 'Human Nature'. But in her time with Tomaz she began to learn so much more about him. Like the fact that he was not, in fact, entirely human but a Time Lord hybrid. She was even granted the rare and precious gift of Tomaz's rather feminine first name. She treasured it, but still called him Tomaz as he seemed more comfortable with it.
And while Seluna and Tomaz were always on the move, living the life of adventure and exploration, her pregnancy was fairly uneventful. But in the last two months, Seluna's demeanor changed. She was never one to complain and she didn't want to worry Tomaz, but something felt wrong. She tired more easily, and getting around was proving difficult. Her last month before she was due to bring her son into the world, Seluna fell ill with a fever with simply would not subside no matter how many remedies they tried. But Seluna simply smiled through the pain and insisted everything would be fine.
As the last few days of her pregnancy drew near, Seluna asked Tomaz to take them sailing. She knew it was an odd request but she felt herself missing the healing sentient waters of her home world and felt it only fitting that her child should be born on the rolling waves as she had on her own planet. Once Seluna and Tomaz had bade their way out so sea, that was when her son decided it was time to make his gran appearance into the world.
The labor lasted several hours, and try as she might to remain calm and placid, she could not help the wails of pain or the tears as she struggled to bring her child into the world. Ten excruciating hours later, she heard her son's wails as he too his first breaths and she flopped back against the bed, weak and exhausted. She couldn't even lift her arms to take her now born son into her arms as Tomaz tried to present their child. All she could do was smile and softly whisper "My Avi" before quietly slipping away.
And yet, somehow.. That wasn't the end of Seluna's story........
