For weeks, Fitz, Compassion, and The Doctor had been endlessly evading Romana and her obsession with collecting Compassion and using her to breed a new era of TARDISes. While, yes Compassion had this impeccable way of grating on The Doctor's nerves, not only was she his companion, but she, for the time being, served as his TARDIS. The last thing he was about to allow happen was let that infernal woman use Compassion as a breeder, for two very important reasons.
Firstly, it was simply degrading. Compassion was a sentient being with a will of her own, not some show dog that had gone into season. Secondly and more importantly. Compassion wasn't exactly The Doctor's ideal choice for a breeding stem of TARDISes.
'An entire legion of half crazed, sarcastic, and self important TARDISes hauling you all over the cosmos? I think I'll pass' he thought glumly.
For the time being, The Doctor felt it would be safest to mull about somewhere in his own past time line. After all, Romana III would have a more difficult time trailing after two Doctors trying to locate the right one. And with a distraction like that, it might just give them the time they needed to throw her off allow them to elude her with somewhat more permanent results.
And while he knew that Fitz would gladly follow him into the bowels of hell and back without much complaint, Compassion always found fault in everything The Doctor did and rather delighted in pointing them out. No matter, Compassion was still his responsibility. He knew she was more than capable of taking care up herself, but that was hardly the point. She was both companion and his TARDIS.
So there they were, somewhere in his own past. A majority of the details long forgotten, no thanks to random bouts of memory loss and certain companions only refilling his mind with some of the details. I suppose what they say is true, Ignorance is bliss.
“Alright.. a few rules.. We are somewhere in my own past.. Infact, I think I've had to do this once before for some reason. so.. Keep a low profile and do try to avoid speaking with anyone if you can help it. The last thing I need is to try and repair a paradox while avoiding that infernal woman.”
