Clara tapped her chin, looking up and down the street corner. The Doctor had said he would be right back... An hour ago. That man irritated her sometimes. With his big chin, "cool" bow tie, always running around, acting like he knew everything... She also loved that about him. Oh, she couldn't make up her mind.
What she could decide, was that Chinboy might not be coming around anytime soon, so she might as well make herself comfortable. It wasn't exactly like she had been stranded on an alien planet. She was probably twenty minutes away from her home. Clara glanced around, and saw a coffee shop nestled in between two office buildings. It was as good a place as any.
Clara wandered over to the place, and got in line. She picked up her order, and sat down at a table. All that was left was to wait for him... Just to wait... Right here.... Alright, she was bored. Her eyes wandered the place, looking for some form of entertainment. "What would the Doctor do with free time...?"
Tomaz Keâts slid into the coffee shop. He’d had a rather long day of chasing down his son and getting him out of trouble. He would never understand where Rio got his knack for trouble from. Sure, he had overthrown a few governments once or twice or nineteen times, but no international court system had hunted him down. He was coming to the conclusion that his family’s only purpose in life was to make him go prematurely gray.
He hated coffee, but this shop served free peppermints. He slid one in his mouth and his eyes scanned for an empty table, his ears pricked to catch any conversations. Most that were directed about him were commenting on his size, but Tomaz brushed them off easily. His eyes landed on a girl who was talking to herself about the Doctor. His eye twitched slightly as he remembered his last (and not very great) encounter with the man.
“The Doctor,” he replied, sliding into the seat across from the girl easily, “never has free time.” He looked out the window idly for a moment before examining the woman again.
Clara paused from her ponderings, to notice the man who was now sitting across from her. He mentioned the Doctor... "The Doctor has free time. He just fills it with things that take that time away. I think he likes having no free time. Ever see him try to sit still for a period of time? It's hilarious... I'm sorry, I'm just talking away... You know the Doctor? I travel with him. My name's Clara."
He was actually good looking. Not that she'd say anything. The Doctor made her wary of any man's ego. Not that he was a normal man... Actually, she had no idea if Time Lords were gender specific. Were there Time Ladies or something? She honestly had no idea. He was very hush on the whole thing. Need to know basis, and apparently, Clara didn't need to know.
“Yes, I know him,” Tomaz answered, offering her a small smile. “My son used to travel with him as well,” he said neutrally, careful to keep the distaste in his voice at a minimum. He didn’t dislike the Time Lord, but the Doctor did have a funny way of putting people in danger that Tomaz hadn’t noticed with any other Time Lord. “Hello, Clara. You can call me Thomas.”
Tomaz drummed his fingers against his chin thoughtfully. “You’re waiting for him in here?” he asked, his hazel eyes scanning the room curiously. A few old women, a teenager or two, and the workers. None of them seemed particularly ‘Doctorish’ so he assumed that the Time Lord was elsewhere. “That’s boring. You know, you don’t need an alien to have an adventure.” Tomaz looked back out the window, resting his elbows on the table.
Clara raised an eyebrow at him, leaning back. Was he offering to take her on an adventure? Would that be cheating on the Doctor? Going off, and having adventures with another man... She giggled a bit at the thought. But, it was alluring. It was much better than waiting around for Chinboy. "So, are you saying you know where adventure is? The Doctor gets me into all kinds of situations. What do you have?"
It felt a little exciting, veering from the Doctor. Maybe the Doctor would be mad. Maybe not. Either way, if this man really knew where excitement was, the Doctor might be close behind.
He leaned back and offered a nonchalant shrug. “Of course I know where adventure is,” Tomaz told her, waving off her question. “There’s adventure everywhere, if you only look hard enough,” he pointed out. He crossed his arms as she told him about the Doctor and asked him what he offered. He paused thoughtfully. “What do I offer...” he repeated, a small smile tugging on his face. “Is this an interview, Miss Clara? Are you after my qualifications?” he asked, looking amused.
Tomaz stood and motioned for her to follow him. “Let’s see... I used to be a wanted man in several continents, but they wouldn’t recognize me now. I’d consider myself a... freedom fighter. A social liberator. Except I use my words, not my fists.” He offered a light shrug and looked down at her with a peaceful smile. “I often find words are better weapons, wouldn’t you agree?”
Clara chuckled, twisting a bit of her hair. "Maybe I should see your qualifications. I don't even know what the Doctor is a doctor of. He could have a doctorate in cheese making for all I know." The funny thing was, it didn't seem that ridiculous in her head for the Doctor to be making cheese. Even if the statement itself was ridiculous.
"I don't know. Words are definitely a lot of fun, but I gotta say, blasting a cyberman with a giant gun felt pretty satisfying." And that was the truth.
