K-9 attempted to report his status and was unable. He had nearly burnt himself to a crisp, but he'd gotten the message out for his Mistress.
Still have TARDIS key. 07/14/1978. It's a trap. Sarah
Meanwhile:
She had swallowed it. It was the only way she could be certain they would not find it.
They were transporting her down to the planet. The one she wished to visit least. She shuddered to think what went on, a mile below her on the alien desert surface of Rilliticon Six. Her captors had her well by the arms, these strange men like creatures that seemed very much like large potatoes. She had the disturbing sense that where potatoes had eyes, these things had orifices from which they both consumed and expelled. She did not care for their smell. It would have been a bit better if they'd been shaped more helplessly like potatoes, but these creatures shape leaned more toward that of a human body builder. Their heads were still shapeless blobs that rose, sans-neck, from massive shoulders.
She was afraid. Not so much of what was going to happen down on the planet, but she just wanted that chance. She feared she wouldn't get it. The outer orbit of this planet was spinning and carooming with cross fire. She rued that her 'visit' was just in time for the two planets at war with each other were in near synchronous orbit. It made ever more the likely she'd be vaporized before they reached the ground.
For now however, she stood between her guards near the airlock, hating that she'd blown the knees out of her jeans and lost most of a sleeve along the way. Not to mention her favorite boots. She hadn't had a wash in days. No way to make a first impression.
She tried to keep her mind on fashion as she waited for the shuttle that had been sent for her. Why wouldn't it come? It was very hard not to think about it when she was waiting for it. The metal plate floor was cold. Most of all, she tried not to think about the Doctor, no matter how she longed to see him. She couldn't let her self hope, it would only distract her from getting out of this mess.
The Doctor had just gotten back to the Tardis from dropping Clara off at her house. He would of gone to another wednsday to pick her up, but she had said something that reminded him of what Amy might of said. He knew he shouldnt of been mopy because of that, but he couldnt help it. Sometimes at moments like these when he was alone and bored, or if clara said something that reminded him of his past companions, he would just break down. He had lost to many people in his life. Too many friends, too many people that he loved. He had just lost to much. And it wasnt fair. The Doctor was snapped out of his past by a beebing sound coming from his monitor. He ran over to check it. What he saw almost made his hearts stop." Still have TARDIS key. 07/14/1978. It's a trap. Sarah." He knew it wad from K9, but he had given K9 to Sarah all those years ago. This could only mean that Sarah jane was in trouble, life threating danger. If K9 had gone through this much trouble to send this message to the Tardis. In the future.
Not wanting to waste any time tge Doctor raced aroundvthe countrols pushing buttons and pulling levers as fast as he could. He heard the Tardis land and ran out the door. He looked at his surrondings quickly. He noticed he was on the santorian planet, or about to be. He saw Sarah Jane across the platform thingy being held by two santorians. His hearts did jumping jacks. He imidently ran over to her not thinking if tge consequences."SARAH!!!!" He couldnt hide his happiness, as although now that he thinks about it he should of. When he was about a foot away from Sarah one of the Santorians hit the Doctor in the back of the head with on of their stupid guns. The Doctor fell on the ground in front of Sarah, suddenly thinking maybevthat wasnt a goid idea....
She assumed she was hallucinating the groan of the TARDIS. She often did in the worst of times, need being almost too powerful a motivation, too strong a fuel to power her dreams. However, today was the day listed in her message. She'd sent it only as a back up plan, she was hoping she'd be able to escape in the last three days they'd been on this ship. Clearly that had not worked, and plan B seemed a bit shaky.
In a breathless moment, the TARDIS fluxed into being right in her very hallway. Desperately, she tried yanking at the grip the two had on her, but it was to no avail. However, plan B seemed to be working better all the time, and it was uplifting.
"Doctor!" She half screamed in sudden desperation and hope just as the blue door was opening, her tall friend pouring out. She stopped struggling for a single moment, stunned. Who was he, another sort of Time Lord? This one had straight hair, a straight nose, and a bow tie. He seemed just her age.
"Sarah!" He shouted, full throat, his voice full of thrill, their eyes caught, and there was no mistaking his identity. Not some other Time Lord. Her Time Lord. Her best friend.
"Doctor!" She screamed again, half in wild delight, half in desperate warning. He paid no heed, running through santorians as careless as through a field of daisies. Just as she knew they would, they struck him down to land near at her feet.
"No!!! No!!!"
One guard kept his hard mitt of a hand around her arm, the other baked potato reached down plucked up one of the Doctor's arms from the floor. He started dragging him away. Sarah Jane nearly went mad.
"Let me go! Leave him alone! Where are you taking him?!?" Almost as if it amused him, the Mr.Potatohead who had her let her go, the other walking lump stopping. She scrambled beside the limp, unfamiliar body of her friend, careful not to take all the skin off her shins as she did so, but only slow enough. Barely.
She cupped her arms around his big head, gathering the weight of it up off the steel and into her lap. The hair would take some getting used to. The other two started talking on their communication's system. She only half listened, mostly she was turning to shake the Doctor. Sometimes he could be roused in such a fashion, sometimes not.
"Come on Doctor, come on" this at first, sweet and needy. The next came out more like a barreling train "Doctor, wake up!" One of the lumpy aliens came over, drawing it's weapon, pointing it clearly at the Doctor, and striding up to loom directly over them both. It wasn't fair, the Doctor being unconscious and all. Far from a fair fight. She flung out her arms over his body, leaned her own torso over.
"Don't . .please . . please . !"
At blaster point, there is more more conversation over the com. She cannot quite follow it, not with her own beating blood thrumming through her ears. Well, at least she got to see him one more time.
"No . . .Very observant. Bring the man along, he might be useful." She heard, and sagged in great relief.
It wasn't 7 minutes until everyone was strapped into their seats, she and the Doctor in full restraints, including head strap.
"Doctor-?" She whispered, trying not to sound heartbroken. Or too happy about him being stuck in this mess with her. Just like old times.
The Doctors head was throbbing. Why he just ran into a army of sontarions, he didn't know. Maybe it was just the sheer thrill of seeing his best friend after hundreds of years, well it was hundreds of years for him. But he just couldn't believe that Sara Jane Smith was right there, so close, yet so far away. He was a little heartbroken that he didn't get to at least speak to Sarah before he was knocked out. The last thing he could remember was Sarah whispering his name, then that ever so familiar blackness of unconsciousness.
The Doctor suddenly noticed that he was in full restraints. He jerked awake only to notice that his head was restrained also. "Ow! Again! How many time's can one time lord hurt his head?" He looked around to see where Sarah was, then he noticed that she was sitting right next to him, also in full restraints. " Sarah! How are you? Are you okay? Did they hurt you? Because if they did I swear..." The Doctor didn't finish his sentence he just looked at the potato heads sitting in the seats in front of them. If they hurt Sarah Jane, then he might just have to blow up their entire planet. NO one hurts his Sarah, and if they do, they answered to him.
The Doctor noticed that Sarah's cloths were in tatters. " Sarah, what happened to your cloths? How long have they had you captive?" The Doctor was now fulled with hatred and anger, at the Sontarions, and at him self. he should never of lied to Sarah about one day coming back to get her, or he should of at least kept his promise. To this day he had never forgave him self for leaving Sarah on Earth, and never coming back to get her. When he did the rewind on his life, and his companions, after driving the pandorica into the TARDIS to create the Big Bang Two. He watched Sarah's life after he left her on Earth. She never created a life of her own, never got a boy friend, never had kids, all because of him. All be cause she never gave up hope that one day he would come back for her. He hated himself for that.
It felt a little indecent how much better she felt. Perhaps she should be concerned that she'd dragged the Doctor into this, but it wasn't as if he couldn't handle it. Perhaps things looked a bit bleak right now, but they'd been in worse spots before. They'd always managed to find a way. She looked hard over to her right to watch him sitting there limp, held up by being securely fashioned into place. In the exact same pickle, but conscious, she was not trying to wiggle her way loose. They were going to need these belts that held them.
He looked so much younger than when she'd first met him, younger even than when he'd changed. They seemed almost of an age together. He was school boy handsome, though the shock of hair would take some getting used to. Somehow she thought the Doctor always had a mighty nose, but not this incarnation. He jolted: stirred. "Ow! Again! How many time's can one time lord hurt his head?"
Oh, thank the stars!
"Is that the first line of a joke?" She asked, though she knew it wasn't. The Doctor had been thumped on the head far too many times. At her words, his eyes shot in her direction. There was such a look on his face that she knew, whatever else, her old friend was as pleased to see her as she him. She was grinning madly back at him. His smile melted into worry.
"Sarah! How are you? Are you okay? Did they hurt you? Because if they did I swear..."
"Hi! Good! Fine! No- I'm alright--" They were speaking on top of each other, words coming out in a rush "Not yet, but I think they have plans . . . ." As he persisted, it brought the smile back to her face, and her voice went sharp. "Doctor don't fuss."
Her time with these aliens had been quite a bit less than pleasant, but they hadn't broken her bones or her will, which is what he was really asking.
"Sarah, what happened to your cloths? How long have they had you captive?"
"Doctor, I--" The armor plates that had covered the forward view made a deep clunking sound she could feel in her bones, then retracted, revealing their situation. She half the view was obscured by the potato heads, but what could be seen was a cluttered battle on the edge of space. Battered battle units spinning and chasing and firing around. "I'm sorry about this."
Another heavy clunk, and the vehicle was suddenly not flying forward into the fray, but dropping like a slungshot rock straight toward the distant surface of the brown and gray planet below. She screamed, startled by her sudden weightlessness. Then she missed the weightlessness when the pilot engaged navigation and she suddenly felt made of lead. Then trajectory was changing too quickly, and she felt like she was on an amusement park ride out of control. They were flying right through the front lines of a war.
"Doctor I.." Sarah was about to say something when the ship that was carrying them both jerked to life. " I'am sorry about this." The Doctor looked at Sarah, well tried to at-least. " You have nothing to be sorry for. I'am the one who should say sorry.." The Doctor was cut short from a very painful jerk in the ship. The Doctor looked out of the window in front of him, to see a full fledged battle in front of them. " Right, okay. We're flying through the middle of a Sontarion battle. In a ship being flown by two Sontarions them selves. Not good." The Doctor tried to slip his wrists out of the restraints, but to no avail. He gave up and looked to Sarah. " Sarah can you reach into my jacket pocket for my sonic screwdriver?"
She'd gone quite ridged as if a little muscle tension could hold her together even if the ship was blown apart. Although she had know what was going to happen the idea couldn't really prepare someone for the reality. She was watching the Doctor most carefully for his reaction. He looked a bit like someone had dropped a lit firecracker in his lap as he started struggling against the restraints.
"Right, okay. We're flying through the middle of a Sontarion battle. In a ship being flown by two Sontarions them selves. Not good."
"It could be worse Doctor." She said with a forced smile. "At least it's not Arriotets flying." The both of them were perfectly aware that The Arriotets were quite notorious for being horrible pilots.
Then they were dropping and careening. Her main purpose became to not throw up or faint. Then she realized the Doctor had said her name. And something else . . .the Sonic! Well, she hadn't even really thought to try to get loose much, it wasn't as if she could fly this thing.
Quite frankly the restrain system in a military ship had never been designed to keep a human female in place in comparison with a Sontaran soldier, or even a Sontaran prisoner. "I can't!" She said, for the benefit of their captors, but clearly she was struggling to pull her wrist from the strap that held her arm tight to the chair. She pulled, and pulled hard, willing her hand boneless. The strap tugged and bound. At some point they were upside down. Her elbow slammed against the back of the chair as she came loose, leaving a layer of skin behind. Not much more than a pinking of but if the strap had been any tighter she might not have been able to get loose. Flicking dark lashed eyes at the pilots, she silently reached over to slip a hand into the Doctor's pocket.
Yo yo. No. Jelly Babies. Nope. Something that sent a little shock up her arm. Nope. Ahh. There was his sonic screwdriver, heavy for it's size and ever warm. It came, familiar to her hand, and she plucked it out. She placed it in his long, elegant fingers. She couldn't imagine what he wanted it for right now. Was he planning on walking down to the planet's surface? Even if he could get free and get the hatch open, she was a little skeptical about what might come next.
A laser blast flashed straight at them. She closed her eyes with a little shriek, but they were not vaporized. Spinning yes, vaporized no.
The Doctor grasped the Sonic tightly in his hand right before the laser blast made them spin towards the ground. The Doctor quickly soniced his restraints, and clung tightly to his chair, so he wouldn't fall on the window shield below. He put both feet on one of the sontorians seats, and tried to keep his balance, so he wouldn't knock himself out, again. He then lowered himself down into the pilot station, and took control of one of the controls. " Hope you don't mind, but I think I should drive from here." The Doctor pulled up on the controls to try and even out the ship. So far it wasn't working very well. " Sarah? You wouldn't be chance know how to drive a sontarion ship would you?" The Doctor looked back where Sarah was stilled restrained in her chair. " No? Okay didn't think so..." The Doctor pressed a few buttons, then pulled as hard as he could on the controls. Eventually it leveled out, and landed on the ground with a thump. The Doctor let out a sigh of relief. " You okay Sarah?"
The Doctor got his fingers around the Sonic Screwdriver right before the blast put them into a spin. She only got glimpses of what happened from then, she was in a bit of a panic. He had gotten loose however, and was pressing his feet up against the seats in front of him.
Now, she didn't think it really happened that way, for the seat in front of her became equally empty of it's passenger. Both had gone flying out, the windscreen with them. Clearly by the way the ship snapped around, they'd been hit. She didn't know if the sudden decamping of their characters was by accident, or by Sonic design. Somehow, even against their wild maneuvering that had Sarah Jane wishing her right arm was still strapped down, the Doctor managed to get himself into a pilot seat. It really was him! It had to be!
"Hope you don't mind, but I think I should drive from here." He said casually to the departed pilots, a terrible windstorm all around them. Thank goodness they'd reached atomosphere, but how close to the ground that meant they were. Could the Doctor possibly pull them up in time? His words were not reassuring on this point. "Sarah? You wouldn't be chance know how to drive a sontarion ship would you?"
"Please tell me you're kidding!!" With the Doctor you could never tell. "Doctor we had a . ..!!!"
"No? Okay didn't think so..."
"That isn't funny Doctor!"
It was horrible to be pinned into place while she watched her friend struggle at the controls. He didn't make it look easy. It looked hard and the strain clearly showed on his disturbingly handsome face. She screamed a time or two, and shouted directions, but he did his own thing.
And saved them.
As the ship came to a stop, she swore she could hear her heart beating in the relative silence, though one could hear a battle waging not so very far away. He did some piloty things and asked if she was okay. it was very good to hear her name on his lips.
"I'm fine! Fine!" She was saying, joy a lilt in her voice to be not only not dead but not on fire or mid air. Her voice caught a quick edge though. "Get me loose, Doctor." She'd had just about enough of restraints.
"I'm fine! Fine!" He let out a sigh of relief, he was glad Sarah was okay. "Get me loose, Doctor." Hearing the Sharpness in her tone he quickly got up and soniced her restraints, releasing her. He stepped over the broken Window shield and onto the Sontorian planet. He took out his sonic screwdriver and soniced his surroundings doing a quick 360 turn. He checked his readings with a flick of his wrist looking for any sign of life. Luckily there was one to their left. He quickly turned in that direction and started walking. " There is life readings coming from over there. Lets just hope that its friendly..."
As always, he jumped to do what she asked. When she needed it, or whenever he could. Now he did with a haste, coming to her and suddenly all the straps were loosed. She liked watching his face while he worked. She got up, rubbing at her wrists and shaking long hair out of her face while he figured out what they were going to do next. She followed him out.
"What does it say?" "There is life readings coming from over there. Lets just hope that its friendly..." She trotted a few steps to come up beside him, wincing at the chaos overhead. "Friendly. . ! No! It isn't! What we need is a ship to get back to the TARDIS, eh? How about that?" She caught at his elbow to slow down this rash thinking, even as her feet kept going.
"Friendly. . ! No! It isn't! What we need is a ship to get back to the TARDIS, eh? How about that?" He stopped walking and looked at Sarah, trying to ignore the chaos overhead. " That's what i'am trying to find. If the people that we're heading towards are friendly, and IF they have a ship. We might be able to use it to get back to the TARDIS. And if they'r not friendly.... Well we might find some way of getting their ship If they have one, anyway." The Doctor turned away from Sarah and continued walking towards the might-be-friendly people. He kicked a rock across the surface as he did so.
She looked at him hard as he explained himself. It seemed unlikely they were friendlies, and unlikely that the pair of them could steal a ship if they were not friendly. She had seen the Doctor do some pretty amazing things, but it all sounded pretty impossible. She'd be dead or imprisoned without him though, so she was in no position to complain. The Doctor was worth the risk. Usually. She'd come along, but not without her opinion being know.
"Just how hard did they hit you on the head, are you thinking straight?" She kept along beside him as he went, her pace quick to match his long legs. He sulked and kicked a stone. Perhaps she'd gone too far. Perhaps he did not remember her as well as she did him.
"Doctor. I'm sorry. It's a good idea. And thanks for coming. And landing that thing."
At Sarah's words the Doctor stopped walking keeping his line of focus on the horizon. " No. You dont have to apologiez. Iam sorry for sulking." The Doctor continued walking changing his line of focus to the ground. He didnt really know why he was upset, he had done this type of thing hundreds of times before. The Doctor kicked another unlucky stone across the surface. The Doctor started thinking why they had taken Sarah in the first place. It was to try and lure him here wasn't it? Ofcourse it was because of him! He seems to be the cause of all his companions getting into danger. And ofcourse he's the reason all of his companions leave, or..... This was exactly why he wanted to travel alone. To stop his rein of terror. And to stop putting the ones he loves into danger.
What had happened to him? How much time had passed? She felt a sudden ache in her heart for him. She knew better than to indulge him, however, and started skipping backwards to speak to him, knowing even the subtle shift of his eyes would lead her through this bare patch on the ground.
"Well," She grinned, "this part is pretty good though. We're not dead, and we're so small down here no one is even noticing us." She took a step closer to him and slugged him in the elbow with the soft of her fist before turning 'round forward again and into step beside him.
"This is much better than the usual round of medical experiments." She teased, "Unless you're into that sort of thing, Doctor?"
