Physical Description:
At a glance one can tell there is something 'other worldly' about his appearance. The feature that stands out about him the most are his eyes. His eyes are narrow almond shaped slits with dark blue irises that almost seem to pierce into your soul and read you like an open book. Intense as his eyes are, at the same time, they are soft and kind. His eyes are gently framed by medium length wild and curly locks of black hair that barely brush his shoulders.
His lips are the next most alluring of his features. His lips are full and feminine, forming a natural pout. His smile is almost mesmerizing. He does not often form a full smile, only letting the corner of his lips twitch slightly, whereby coining his odd nickname, as he does this quite a bit. His smirked smile always makes him seem as though he is planning something.
His skin is a warm sun kissed caramel complexion, smooth and flawless. His body is of a medium but lean frame, gentle muscle tone of his arms, legs, and abdomen. He has the lithe build of an Olympic swimmer. He stands with an air of confidence, while somehow not seeming arrogant, putting him at 6'1". His voice is light and gentle but deceptively deep. His accent is distinctly Arabic but it has softened over the centuries, making him easy to understand. He can speak many languages but he speaks English more than anything else. However when he becomes flustered, he speaks in a very ancient dialect of Arabic.
His attire can be a little awkward for some people before they get to know him. If Twitch could have his way, he'd wear nothing at all. But since that is simply not an option in civilized society, He can be seen wearing a pair black silk Harem style pants and nothing else. He hates the restrictive feel of fabric and will avoid wearing it if he can. When he absolutely must be dressed, he sulkily wears a pair of dark denim jeans, and plain shirts. He adamantly refuses to wear shoes.Personality:
- Sarcastic: Having lived several millennia, Twitch has developed a quick and often unappreciated wit. He can often come across as arrogant, but Twitch simply likes to poke fun. At one point, while in the library with a master, he lit up a cigarette out of boredom and took a drag. Shocked and appalled that he was smoking inside a public place, a librarian asked him "Is that a cigarette you're smoking??" to which Twitch calmly replied, his face quite serious, "No.. It's a chicken" His sarcasm his landed him in trouble on more occasions that he cares to recall, but he takes it in stride, chalking it up to "Humans just have no sense of humor".
- Charismatic: There is just something about his eyes and the way he smiles. When not being a total sass, he's eloquent and calm, speaking with age only betrayed by his eyes. His expressive nature can seem quite alluring, conveying so much in the slightest head nod or the narrowing of his eyes. It is, perhaps, his smile that draws people to him. His deep dulcet tones also add to the enchantment.
- Playful: Despite his age, he expresses himself with all the wide eyed wonderment and playfulness of a fledgling. Even though he has knowledge of everything, he deliberately forgets. It helps to make his tediously long life enjoyable by learning things all over again. This also lends to his somewhat innocent nature. He has never known a cruel master, giving him a child like optimistic view of Humans.
- Protective: When in the possession of a master or mistress, his is loyal until either they dismiss him or until their deaths. And he will fiercely do everything in his power to prevent either. Twitch is not normally a violent Marid, but when it comes to the safety of his owner, he can be quite cruel. He will use the assailant's own body against them, often making someone drown in their own saliva by causing the salivary glands to go into over drive. His other method of harm is to dehydrate someone by absorbing the water from their bodies.
- Fearless: There is not much that frightens Twitch. In the many long years of his life, he has seen and experienced too much to be afraid of it anymore. This can leave him to throw caution to the wind and do reckless things that would normally leave someone thinking that the Marid had a death wish. There is only one thing that truly terrifies him and that is the thought of losing his master or mistress.
- Cunning: This is a side of himself that he prefers not to reveal to others. But, beneath that calm and playful exterior is an intricate and calculating mind. Once does not live as long as he has without learning how to deal out the cards in his own favor. Twitch does not like to consider himself manipulative, but he knows how to twists words to make someone believe nearly anything.
History: What did it mean to be born? What was it that defined you? Your parentage? Your origin? What if you didn’t have those? Then.. What were you? This was something that this creature had posed to himself over the many millenia of his life. Something deep within himself knew what he was. He was of The Djinn. A powerful race that roamed the wilds of the untamed earth long before Human Kind. But everything had an origin, did it not? His brethren had been born of the eternal smokeless fires. He was different. He could feel it within his very core. The ebb and flow like water coursing through him, free and fluid. He had been born of the eternal waters.
His place of birth was nestled deep within a cavern that ran deep into the core of the earth. His mother was a spring of the purest water that had flowed into a river of Magma. It was their passionate and violent union that bore him. The water did not vaporize and fade, instead it twisted and flowed into the magma, an eternal union of the molten stone and water. At his core, rolling and boiling water.
He ascended from the deep caverns and found the surface, brilliant and blinding as the sun . Someone had been waiting for him at the surface. The nameless fledgling stood there as he was informed that his birth had been foretold and that he had much to learn. He was The Marid. Something new and strange. His caretaker was a pale eyed Drevnemi that had taken it upon herself to pull the fledgling into the fold of their kind.
The well spring from which he was born would later fall into myth and obscurity, only to be called "The Fountain of Youth”.
His time under the Drevnemi's instruction was full of conflict. Halil was of the mindset that she could not rule and command him as he was not born as the others were. He often referred to the other djinn as reckless and wild. Fires that could only consume and destroy. Halil was smooth and calm, like a still lake. His unwavering calm seemed to unsettle the other djinn. Under that calm exterior was a self important and arrogant Marid that felt he was better than his brethren.
His arrogance had finally sparked a conflict between himself and the Drevnemi. Their battle raged for nearly a thousand years, each unable to best the other in strength or skills. She realized that she had taught him too well. He had become stronger than she had anticipated. Their battled would have continued on if not for an ancient Ifrit who had stepped in. This ifrit was different that any other ifrit Halil had encountered. His outward calm mirrored his own and Halil could not help but be drawn to him.
The Ifrit casually dismissed the Drevnemi and informed her that her services were no longer required. The Marid was no longer a fledgling and could obviously take care of himself. The Drevnemi coldly warned Halil that should he ever craft a fledgling of his own, a war would ignite, dividing their people. The Ifrit and The Marid ignored her warnings. After all, The way the ifrit saw it, Halil was his brother, whether born of fire or water. And there were strength in numbers.
But the calm would not last. Halil heard whispers that The Lord of the ifrits was planning to strike down and destroy the ummaar. Halil would not let him. To prevent the destruction of the weaker djinn, Halil crafted his fledgling. He did not possess the knowledge of how to truly extend himself and was only able to craft an amir. But his fledgling was very near to his likeness. Thick unruly ringlets of black hair and piercing dark eyes. And the color of energy from his nearly matched his own. While Halil's was a pale aqua color, his fledgling was a deep and beautiful teal. But he was unlike Halil. His core was still of the eternal smokeless fire. But the amir was calm and placid like water.
His fledgling had been born of compassion and the desire to protect. This trait remained with his fledgling. The Ummaar gathered behind their sole defenders against the onslaught of the Ifrits and The Shayteen. Many ummaar were lost in the battle, their ashes scattered across the sands. But with Halil and his unique grasp of the waters of eternity, many ifrit and shayteen were drowned, their fires smothered. The slaughter raged for nearly five thousand years before The Lord of The Ifrits withdrew, realizing the utter pointlessness of all this death. It was Halil that made the ifrit realize that, together, they could be strong.
It was that strength and unity they would need when Solomon began enslaving, torturing, and slaughtering them...
Halil has had a rather odd collection of masters. He was found by a shepherd named Moses. Halil aided in turning the seas to blood and parting the Red Sea. Fast forward several centuries, he met a naturalist named Charles Darwin, and shortly after, a writer and philosopher named Samuel Clemons, better know as Mark Twain. It was Twain who had named the marid 'Sawyer' and he became the inspiration for many of Twain's books due to his playful and mischievous nature.
But the one mistress that he remembered most fondly, was a young beautiful girl named David. (her parents had been expecting a boy, and had already decorated a nursery with the name. When they found out he was in fact a she, they just kept the name). When they first met, he had saved the girl from drowning. No one had been watching when she jumped into the deep end of a swimming pool at a birthday party. He had been there, working as a life guard. When he pulled her from the water, she wasn't breathing. He held his fist against her chest with an upward sweet, forced the water from her lungs. She took her first gasps of air... and then promptly vomited birthday cake all over him. He was instantly smitten with her.
She had nearly died, but she remained brave and resolute, wanting to dive in again. For the first time, a jinn had found a master they wanted, rather than a master finding their lamp by chance and claiming them. He gave the girl a beautiful tiny opalescent conch shell on a silver chain and told her “If you ever need me.. squeeze this.. I will be there for you.” The girl rolled her eyes at him, thinking he was a nutter. But she accepted the gift.
Weeks passed before he finally felt her calling to him. She'd been unable to sleep and wanted company. It was David who had named him Twitch because of the way his lips twitched when he smiled. As the years went by, they were inseparable. David looked to Twitch like an older brother. As David reached High School age, Twitch found himself actually falling in love with her. Of course, he kept this to himself. In order to stay by her side, he tried to pass himself off as a student. He was able to figure out how to create all the fake documentation he needed to alleviate any suspicion from the faculty. David was a bit annoyed with him for it, but after a while, she saw this was actually a good thing for Twitch. Twitch had so much otherworldly knowledge about so many things, but he was clueless when it came to the basic fundamentals of simply being Human.
The cliques, the bullies, the idiotic power struggles, how cruel some teachers could actually be to the children they were supposed to be structuring and protecting. Twitch was finally understanding how hard it actually was growing up as a human. And because he was trying to blend in (mostly to keep an eye on David) He couldn't use his powers to get even. He actually had to sit there and take the abuse. This actually brought Twitch and David closer together.
But it was not to last.
A week before David was to graduate from high school, she and her friends wanted to have a beach party to celebrate before they all went their separate ways for jobs or college. Everything was going fine. They had a roaring bonfire going as the sun went down and the food was amazing. David and a few of her friends went to go swim. But after about an hour... the undertow swept both David and one of her friends under the water. The moment Twitch saw her head go under, He knew, and he panicked. He began to run into the water, forgetting it was salt water, not fresh. The salt in the water began to scald, sear, and blister his flesh. He made it up to his chest before he could no longer stand the pain. He had fooled everyone there into thinking he was just another teenage boy. He did not care that they were about to know the truth. His master, best friend, and the one he loved, was drowning.
He shot up out of the water, a swirling mass of crystalline blue energy. His true form. He darted above where David and her friend went down, reaching for her hand. But just has he got to her, her hand vanished under the waves. She went where he could not follow. He had lost her. The rescue boats searched for her and her friend for weeks, but were never able to recover the bodies. Twitch kept vigil over the shoreline, mourning David. Nearly a month after she went under, a body was found on a beach several miles from where she had drowned. While her body was unrecognizable, he knew it was her. His lamp was still worn around her neck.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, he had secretly hoped she was alive, somewhere, just avoiding him. The full realization that she was truly gone was too much for him to bear. He reclaimed his lamp and vanished. No one, not even the other jinn knows where he went. Even his own brother Iblîs was unable to track him down.
It is rumored that Halil returned to his birthplace. The well spring deep beneath the earth.
Additional medical information: Unlike other djinn, As a Marid, Twitch is made of water, not fire. Allergic to salt and iron.
