Jack stood next to the water feature above Torchwood 3, enjoying the night and wondering when he might see the Doctor next. He missed Rose, and the Doctor, but their adventures got a little crazy from time to time. He readjusted his coat as a stiff breeze caught the edges of it.
"What I'd do for some of Ianto's coffee right now," he lamented to the wind. He was still uncertain as to why he was outside at that moment, but he knew he'd figure it out soon enough. His instincts had rarely steered him wrong. Even as a conman.

A flash of light lite up the darkened star bedazzled night sky, and a dark craft, that resembled an oversized and rather bulky fighter jet was the cause of it. One moment she had been traveling through deep space and the next thing she knew a rather large, blue, orb of land masses and water was head ahead and she was headed towards it entirely too fast. She had little time to prepare as she slammed on the decelerator, lifted the nose of her craft and slammed into a large body of water near a spectacle of lighted society, alien society… ‘Excellent,’ she thought… ‘The alien part, not the crashing part.’
Jenny was strapped into the cockpit and assumed the please don’t let me die, or even worse, let my ship get damaged position and then… impact…
Jack looked up in time to see the bright flash of light. He tapped a few commands on his Vortex Manipulator(VM for short) and cursed quietly under his breath before heading down the hidden platform to grab his gear. He double checked the read-outs to confirm the location of the crash and punched it into the VM as he rushed for the vehicle with a small kit and his gun.
He jumped in, gunned the engine and was off.
Twenty minutes later he arrived at the crash site. He wasn't really familiar with that type of craft, but he'd still try and make friendly contact. According to the computer the craft had crashed more than landed so that was something to keep in mind.
He carried the medical kit in his left hand and kept his right hand up. "Hey! Anyone in there? If you can hear me, please respond. I'm Captain Jack Harkness, and I'm here to help you. If I can."
It wasn’t as bad as Jenny had thought it would be. Instead of plunging into the deep dark depths of the bay her craft skipped along it surface before coming to an ungraceful and rather rough and painful stop on the water’s edge, her ship half in and half out of the water.
A light panel had come loose and had grazed her head and she could feel a rising headache and a wetness creeping down her hairline from her forehead. She sat there for a few moments assessing bodily damage to herself and her craft. She was sore; she felt a sharp pain when she tried to move her left arm and there was pain radiating from her left leg as well. She gave her leg an experimental wiggle and decided that it wasn’t broken. The pain shooting from her arm also seemed superficial and would no doubt heal in no time.
Jenny released herself from the harness that she was strapped into that probably saved her life and kept the personal damage to a minimum. From her limited survey of the ship, at least the insides, the ship seemed relatively intact. She stood and swayed on her feet just a little and waited a few moments until the wave of dizziness passed.
It was then that she heard the voice, a masculine voice that called out from somewhere beyond the confines of her ship. She slowly made her way to the ships release hatched and opened it as best she could, noticing that it was partially stuck. Jenny attempted to wriggle through the opening and promptly fell to the ground in her as she lost her balance. She looked up and noticed a figure standing there in the dark, no doubt the owner of the voice she had heard.
“’Ello,” she said, trying to force a smile as she did so. "I'm Jenny."
"Well, Jenny," Jack replied as he moved to her side quickly. He did a quick visual inspection of the craft and noted it would only need minor repairs to get it moved. He looked back down at the fallen girl at his feet and gave her a winning smile. "So, where are you from, Jenny? I'm Captain Jack Harkness. You're on Earth, and headed for Torchwood 3. We'll need to get you looked out. I don't know where Owen is, but I can take care of the basics until he arrives."
He opened the medical kit and took out some bandages before moving close to her once more. "I'm going to clean these and get them wrapped up. Your ship has a locking mechanism, right?"
Jenny’s eyes traveled for a split second towards her surroundings before flashing Jack another smile, a bright smile. “Earth? Never heard of it…. Excellent. I’m from Messaline,” she said casting a glance at her ship and noting the condition of the outer hull. She took in the waters bank, the water, the sounds of it as it hit up against her ship’s hull; Lights that glimmered from its perpetual moving surface… it was all new, and Jenny thought it beautiful in its own way, but then anything new was beautiful to Jenny.
Jenny didn’t pull away or even flinch as Jack got out his medical supplies, “I think it’s mostly superficial,” she said as she started patted down her pockets looking for something. It was a small device, no larger than a cellphone. She took it and pointed it at her ship and clicked a button. The door that she had climbed through gave a groan and an unpleasant grinding sound before slowly closing and a loud metallic think indicated it sealing itself. “I guess I still have a locking mechanism,” Jenny replied. “So, Jack… what’s Torchwood 3”
Jack nodded and winced a little at the sound the ship made. He looked over the cut after washing it out. "It's not as bad as it looked. Just a bit of blood, which is already slowing down. And Torchwood is an institution on Earth to deal with the unusual things that happen. And we deal with aliens. See, Earth hasn't quite figured out they aren't alone in the Universe so... we have to keep things from overwhelming them. But that's something we can talk about more at the HUB. You feeling okay?" He finished tying off the bandages and offered a hand to help her stand. "The HUB's not too far from here, and I have a car. I'll get the proper equipment out here to bring your ship in. Then we can see about getting it fixed up and you can be on your way if you want. I hope you don't mind me asking, but what species are you?"
Jenny looked at Jack wide-eyed and a little surprised. “You must be very good at your job if you can hide something like that from an entire populace of people Jack,” Jenny said continuing to look at him in astonishment. Jack asked her if she was feeling okay and Jenny decided that she felt more than okay. She was in the mood to explore and see new things. “Yes, I feel alright,” she said reaching up and grabbing ahold of Jack’s extended hand.
“A car?” Jenny inquired as she got up off the ground and took yet another look at her surroundings. “I’m not in any hurry, I’ve been traveling in that ship for months,” She said as-a-matter-a-factedly. Then he asked a question that took her by surprise. It was a question that she always had to think long and hard about before answering. She knew what species she was of course, but she knew next to nothing about them. A shared history, a shared, pain and suffering. A great war that destroyed them all, all but one single survivor… her dad.
Jenny’s demeanor changed from that of one with insatiable curiosity and good humor about what had happened to her to one of all seriousness and no-small amount of sadness. Sadness because it was probable that she would never even see her father again, let alone learn about a people that were a part of her and yet would forever be a mystery, “Time Lord,” Jenny said simply.
Jack faltered, and his whole being froze. "Did you just say, Time Lord?" he asked, stunned by the comment. As far as he knew... All the Time Lords aside from the Doctor were dead. Even the Master. It was one of the reasons for the Doctor's pain and loneliness. And to be honest the Immortal knew how he felt.
He shook himself as he led her to the SUV. "I am good at my job, but most of it has to do with the human tendency to deny things they don't understand. And they don't understand much beyond their own world yet. But they will. Their curiosity is astounding. You hungry?"
He typed a few things into his VM and used the key fob to remote start the car so it would be warm enough to keep either of them from staying cold when they got in.

Jenny gave a small wistful smile, hearing the tone in Jacks voice, “yeah, I’m a Time Lord, I take it you are familiar with the race then?” She asked.
She walked beside Jack to a ground vehicle that Jenny assumed was the thing he called his car. Listening to Jack talk about humanities tendency to deny what was right in front of them struck a chord. “Humans do have a tendency for denial… and violence due to fear and lack of understanding,” Jenny said. She knew that human trait all too well. It was a trait that for a while had run ramped throughout the Messaline people, the humans and the hath. They both had that trait, and she decided it wasn’t just a human quality after all.
For the last year Jenny had eaten nothing but rations that she had stored up in her ship before she departed some 12 months ago. The thought of eating something else, anything else was too tempting to resist. “Hungry? Yeah,” she said. As they reached the SUV.
Jack smiled, genuine happiness shone in his eyes. "Yeah, I'm familiar with Time Lords. Met one... twice. Once in his ninth regeneration and once in his tenth. That was interesting. You might have heard of him... he's called The Doctor. He's a skinny guy, in a brown suit, a long brown trench-coat, and bright red converse tennis shoes. And he's got a messy mop of hair. Kinda spunky. What kind of food do you like? I aim to please," he gave a little bow as he opened the door to the black SUV and helped her inside. He made sure to show her how to buckle up. "Safety first," he admonished before hopping in and gunning the engine with a winning smile. He pulled out and headed for one of Ianto's favorite take-away joints.
For a moment it was Jenny’s turn to freeze up in surprise. “You know the Doctor, THE Doctor?” Jenny just stared with a look of utter disbelief. Maybe, just maybe there was hope yet of finding him, letting him know she lived and maybe even a little chastising for leaving her behind. For the moment the comment about regeneration was completely outshone by the fact that this man, this human knew her dad.
“I’ve never had human fare before, so I will have to leave that choice in you capable hands,” she said with a bright smile. Jenny got into the SUV and with Jack’s help got buckled in. It wasn’t that much different than the harness of her cockpit, it was simpler in fact; only one strap and one single buckle.
As Jack drove off Jenny couldn't help but to ask, even though she figured it was a long shot,“You wouldn’t happen to know how to get ahold of The Doctor would you? Or know where he would be? I’ve been kinda looking for him, Donna, and Martha for what seems like ages.”
Jack shook his head. "Sorry, I have no idea where he is. But he has a habit of popping into Cardiff to refuel the TARDIS. But yes, The Doctor. But I'll see if I can't send him a message when we get back to the HUB. But first. Chinese food! I think that will have enough variety for you to find something you'll like. So, what are you used to eating?"
He wove easily through the traffic, not in a hurry at the moment. Jenny seemed honest and open she he'd show her around and see what his empathy picked up from here. Make sure she was trust worthy. But the Doctor didn't usually accociate with people that weren't trust worthy.
Jenny’s eyes were alight and alive with hope at the thought of seeing The Doctor again, at letting him know that she was alive and well, that she hadn’t died from the gunshot wound. For the first time in a year Jenny didn’t feel so alone in the universe and it was nice to finally talk to someone. There is just so much quiet and loneliness that can be tolerated on an extended voyage, alone in deep space.
“For the last year I’ve been eating military rations… ” Jenny said, making a slight face when Jack asked her about the kinds of food she was accustomed to. “The people on Messaline are all commandos and it’s pretty much all they have there, it’s hard to grow food underground with a planet surface that can’t support life. Thought, that should all change now, thanks’ to The Doctor."
Jenny watched the traffic with bright alert eyes as Jack continued driving. Her attention frequently grabbed by an irresistible force of curiosity. “He came to Messaline and he helped to save the conflicted races that live there….” Jenny said, ‘Mostly from themselves,’ Jenny thought. “He helped to rejuvenate the planet and make it livable as well with something the people there called the source,” Jenny continued to say, her speech becoming increasingly faster as she spoke.
“I was supposed to leave the planet with him… but…” Jenny’s voice trailed off, “there was an accident.” Jenny looked at Jack, “He thinks I’m dead.”

"That probably broke his hearts. How did you know each other? Almost all of the Time Lords are stuck in a Time ... Bubble if I understood correctly. Well, the Master isn't in there but..." Jack shivered a moment and brought his mind back to where they were. He pulled into the parking lot of their all-night Chinese take away. "We're here. We'll go inside to order and you can tell me which one looks good to you. We can get extra if you'd like to try more than one. And I should probably bring something back for Ianto since I know he's bound to be working in the Archives or something like that."
He hopped out of the car and moved around to the passenger side to offer his arm to his guest. "Shall we?"
