The Nomad ran his hand through his hair as he thought about why his ship was being so stubborn that it would not leave Earth, "Why not? There is nothing else here to see!" He said as the Time Lord tried to get the ship to move again, this time everything shut off, "Alright alright! I will go and take a look." He said as The Nomad turned around and walked out of the TARDIS, locking the door he waited for the ship to go invisible before walking down the street.
Along the way he saw a figure in the rain, whatever it was, it did not appear to be human at all. Figuring it was the reason, he followed the figure, when he got close enough he could see and as well smell that it was another fish being. Great, a fish in the blooming rain! Just what is needed... He though as the Time Lord followed the fish, the cold was starting to make the Time Lord's joints to hurt, perhaps he was getting closer to the specific event that happens once for each of his incarnations. But he was not sure. For now he had to ignore that so that this problem alien can be dealt with.
Coming to a stop at a corner the fish went around, he peered to see that there was three more of them, "Great a mob." Reaching into his pocket he got out a little device before walking around the corner, "Oi.. what are you up to?" He asked the bunch of fish people.
"What brings you here.. Earthling? Don't ya know it is dangerous to walk around at night alone?" The lead fish said, drawing out his gun, with it the rest of them brought their guns out.
The Nomad raised his hands, "Hey just a question." He said.
"Well.. let's say we are figuring out what is killing those of us that are dying.. wait.. that device.. maybe you are one of them that are killing us.. you are not a human! Kill him!" The fish yelled.
"Woah!" The Nomad yelled as he got out of the way, throwing the device that smashed to pieces, it was meant to disable the guns all at once. Going into a sprint he made a speedy get away, running for some time he finally came to a stop outside a orphanage. Panting he noticed some pain coming from his leg, looking down he saw that he was shot, not that it was a big problem.
A woman, maybe in her fifties, maybe a little older, stepped out of a door to the orphanage, "My goodness what happened to you?"
"Got mobbed." The Nomad answered.
"Are you a cop?" She asked.
He quickly nodded, "A type of cop."
"Come inside. I will fix you some tea and get you cleaned up." The lady said, opening the door wider she walked over and helped Nomad inside, placing him on a chair she looked over him, "Goodness must have been one bad mob. You are lucky to be alive." The lady said as the Time Lord looked down at his injured leg, "I will get some bandages.. you wait here. Oh the children here are darling, do not be alarmed if they come down to see you." She said before walking off.
The Nomad smiled warmly at the woman, then looked around the room he was put in, "Well.. this is different." He said as he looked around curiously.
-a line of the little children were passing through the hall coming from from the lunch room. Most of them seemed excited and cheerful whispers spread through the group as discussions of going trick or treating with the adults was only days away. A few children paused when they saw the strange man in the head mistress' office and smiled waving at him. Perhaps he was a potential parent coming to look around for a child to adopt.
Only one did not stop, her head lowered and hidden by the hoodie that was pulled over her head, which was odd as the building was more than warm enough. She slowed long enough to make eye contact with him, her head canting to the side in a strange twitch.
One child smiled over at her
"Yvie, arent you going to say hello?
and the boy reached out to grasp her arm to get her attention, but another child slapped his hand away
"No, Timmy, Don't touch her!!
but too late, as the little boy's hand came to touch Yvie's hand. And just as soon as their skin touched, his index finger suddenly snapped backwards with a sickening *SNAP*. Timmy's face contorted into a scream but no sound escaped. The boy was in shock. The older little girl clutched Timmy to her and picked him up in her arms. She shooed the other children away and rushed Timmy to the infirmary, yelling over her shoulder at Yvie
"You dint have to do that! He didnt know, he's new! You're so mean, Yvie! I'm telling Madam Godfrey!!"
"Is that a threat, Sophie?"
Yvie glared after Sophie, looked at the stranger once more as she was now the only one left in the doorway. That strange twitch caused Yvie to roll her neck and shoulders again and she smiled at him, a strange smile that was not normal for a child and she walked away-
The Nomad waved at the kids, with a smile. Maybe they were thinking that he was going to adopt one or more of them.. that just made the Time Lord's heart sink, he can't adopt, he's an alien... what good is it to adopt a Earth child when you will outlive them by hundreds of years?
He looked curiously at one that stopped, she did not seem normal.. he sensed that there was something terrifying about her, something even as horrifying.. no with what he was sensing, she was more terrifying then a Dalek. Which was enhanced when he watched the boy's finger bend over backwards to face it's owner, he got up and limped over to the boy as others rushed him away, from where he stood the Time Lord could tell that he was not going to be of any use.
The woman came back, "Oh my dear sit back down." She said as she put him back into the chair, placing a bowl of water and other things on her desk she got the rag, which was in hot water, and put it to his leg injury. The Nomad yelped, "You should have warned me first..." He groaned.
"Sorry dear." She said as the lady dabbed the wound a couple more times, "You will rest here, then in the morning I will call you a taxi to the hospital." She said as the mistress to the same rag and dabbed his wound again, he groaned quietly.
"Maybe I should take care of it.." He said as the Time Lord took the rag from her and applied it to his injury.
"Are there other injuries?" The lady asked.
The Nomad looked at her, "A mob was shooting at me while I was running." he said, yeah it was.. kind of a lie.
"I will get more bandages." She said before walking out. The Nomad watched her and noticed the girl was still standing there. But she was walking away rather slowly. He guessed that maybe she was a bit slow or.. no she had to somehow know he was not a human at all. He looked back down, seeing the wound was clean he put the rag back into the water. Reaching over the Time Lord grabbed the bandages.
The Woman came back, taking the bandages away she grabbed a bottle and applied it to another rag, then put it to his wound, causing him to yowl, the Time Lord guessed it was to clean the wound more, but it hurt so much. The Nomad wished he never went after that fish.
-Yvie watched him squirm and whimper beneath the head mistress' not so nurturing touch. The smile vanished as she stepped into the office. This Godfrey woman annoyed Yvie to no end, trying to nurse his leg when it was clear she didn't know what she was doing. She glanced at the bottle seeing that was was rubbing alcohol and not the usual medical disinfectant. Her cold, hard expression turned to that of a sweet little angle, pulling her hoodie down showing her doll like glassy green eyes, framed by tangled wispy reddish brown hair.
"Ma'am? Madam Godfrey? You're hurting him! Is he okay?
Her face and tone seemed so genuinely innocent and caring, but her eyes were calculating. She was now standing behind her, looking into the stranger's eyes. She stretched out her hand and suddenly the bottle of alcohol was in her small hand
"Oh.. This isnt what the nurse uses. Maybe you need that brown bottle she has in her office.. That doesnt hurt near as much. I can keep our guest company if you like?"
-The older woman looked at the bottle, confused. She shook her head, adjusting her glasses as if realizing she had made some mistake-
"Oh.. I could have sworn-.. I am so sorry sir. You just sit tight. Thank you Yvellyn. You're always so observant and a good hostess.
She looked to The Nomad smiling
"She's one of our sweetest children. I'm sure you wont mind her company while I speak to our resident nurse, will you?"
Yvie interjected, not giving him a chance to say anything and smiled sweetly
"We'll become good friends, I'm sure"
The head mistress smiled and patted Yvie on the top of her head and hurried out the door once more. Once the woman rounded the corner, Yvie's smile disappeared and she closed the door and locked it. She sat in the oversided chair across from him and folded her fingers together in a sort of craddle, her index fingers steepled to rest along the bridge of her nose as their eyes met once more. That sweet tone had also vanished.
"Does it hurt?"
she lifted her hand away from her face and twirled her index finger, and though she was no where near him, The Nomad could feel the shrapnel from the weapon lodged in his leg begin to tug.
"If you tell me who you are and why you're here, I might be benevolent.. and remove the source of your agony"
Something was definitely wrong with this girl. she then muttered something under her breath, speaking to some unknown entity.
"No, he might be one of them. I wont let anyone take us apart, Sevvy"
The Time Lord sighed with relief when the mistress was no longer applying the rubbing alcohol to his leg, "Oh? Oh yeah.. I will just wait here.." He said between pants, he had to get the alcohol cleaned off though, The Nomad will wait till the lady is gone.
He looked to the child, she was a nice looking girl, but then she was the one with that aura that was even making him, a Time Lord, feel unsafe. But before he could say anything, like it being best for the girl to move along, the girl said something that he did not quite catch, the lady simply patted the child's head and was out of the room.
Groaning he laid his head on the back of the chair, hearing the door shut and... lock? He opened his eyes wide. But he could not move, what was this? He gripped the chair as his leg started to hurt, as though what was causing his agony was moving.
"Does it hurt?" But there was something about the voice.. it was not warm or welcoming as a child's voice should be.
"You have no idea how.. much this hurts." The Nomad groaned as he felt the shrapnel moved, he could not tell if it was a tug or a push, what did she want? Was she helping or just toying with him? This was way beyond what the Time Lord knew of, he had no idea beings were capable of this.
"If you tell me who you are and why you're here, I might be benevolent.. and remove the source of your agony"
The Nomad was not sure if he should tell her," I.. ah!" He gasped at some pain, it was different though, "My name is.. Leo. I'm a.. cop." He said, "I have a badge in my pocket." He did but.. wait his pockets are multi dimensional.. who knows what she will find in there, "Just let me get it." He gasped. Oh how he wished he did not leave his TARDIS and just fought with her to leave this planet when he had the chance, then maybe he will not be in this situation, maybe he would be elsewhere.. somewhere in the universe.
He went to move his bloodied hand to his pocket, maybe he can just grab his wallet and show her, even though it is a false identity. But he was not able to.. perhaps she knew his Earth identity was a lie. Maybe he should tell her, no wait, what exactly does she want to know? And why? What else is it the child wants?
" I.. ah!" He gasped at some pain, it was different though, "My name is.. Leo. I'm a.. cop." He said, "I have a badge in my pocket. Just let me get it"
Yvie was only a child after all and seemed satisfied with his answer when she looked at the psychic paper and saw a very convincing badge.
"This will hurt..... a lot. Try not to move.
and her hand jerked to the side as if throwing something and the bullet ripped out of his leg, causing fresh blood to cover his calf. The bulltet hovered in mid air and floated to the child as she seemed to inspect it curiously.. But within moments, The Nomad could hear a voice as clear as his own. And it wasn't coming from the little girl. This voice sounded.. if there was a sound for it.. pure evil.
"Oh clever... very clever.. She cant tell the difference between psychic paper and the real thing... Oooooh but I can.. Time Lord.. Don't let him lie to you Yvie. He is a monster. He's come to take me away and kill me. Then you will be all alone..."
Yvie's eyes widened in terror at these words and that bullet she had just removed was suddenly pressing hard against his throat, threatening to rip apart his main artery, and Yvie's eyes had turned coal black.
"NO!! You can't have her! Sevaros is MY companion! "
and as Yvie screamed, the decorative vase of with a wee little fish inside shattered, sending water everywhere and the poor gold fish was left on the desk flopping pathetically and gulping. Books of various sizes flew off the shelves as she glared at him.
He looked to see that the girl was convinced, perhaps his false identity will work, good thing too.
"This will hurt..... a lot. Try not to move."
With a move of her hand she ripped the bullet out of his calf, but it was not exactly.. painless, as the Time Lord yelled out in agony. Breathing heavily, gripping the seat, he has never experienced pain this bad, not in this incarnation anyways.
He wanted to just get up and leave but what ever was holding him there was still around him so he cannot exactly just get up and leave.
His eyes partially open, but he was able to clearly hear, "Oh clever... very clever.. She cant tell the difference between psychic paper and the real thing... Oooooh but I can.. Time Lord.. Don't let him lie to you Yvie. He is a monster. He's come to take me away and kill me. Then you will be all alone..."
"I'm.. not here to kill anyone." The Nomad replied. He moved his head away as the bullet was pressed to the side of his throat, his eyes closed tight, mostly from the pain not in fear, "I am not here to take.. or kill anyone. I was just taking care of some alien fish.. trying to take them home." He groaned lightly, "I'm.. a Time Lord called The Nomad because I travel alone." He said through gritted teeth. But the bullet's pressure did not lighten up. The Time Lord had no idea of what to do at all, he was literally strapped to the chair and was at the mercy of this child and her, unseen companion.
He looked to the door when he heard some pounding on it.
"I'm.. not here to kill anyone." The Nomad replied. He moved his head away as the bullet was pressed to the side of his throat, his eyes closed tight, mostly from the pain not in fear, "I am not here to take.. or kill anyone. I was just taking care of some alien fish.. trying to take them home." He groaned lightly, "I'm.. a Time Lord called The Nomad because I travel alone."
-at his last statement, Yvie cried out with a sob-
"Liar. Those fish people are after Sevvy too!, She told me so! That's why she had to... had to hurt them! And.. Why wouuld you go alone? No one wants to be alone!'
-the voice spoke soothingly to Yvie, but her words only egged her on.-
"Dont let him sway you, Child. It was his kind who forced my kind into oblivion. The Time Lords nearly destroyed The Nothing. You know I am the last and now he has come to make us extinct! Kill him!! KILL HIM, YVIE! And Let me FEAST upon his glow!
-as the voice screamed, ringing in both Yvie and The Nomad's ears, Yvie's eyes filled with tears and she shook her head-
"I.. I can't, Sevvy.. I've never killed anyone before.. I.. I cant do it..."
-and Yvie fell to her knees with a choked sob and the bullet at his throat clattered to the floor and the strange grip on him was gone. There was an unsettling calm lull before the voice murmured softly-
"Oh my sweet Yvie.. So much still to learn.. If we are to coexist, you must learn to obey.. Close your eyes, child.."
-as Yvie complied, she suddenly seemed to slump to the floor in an unconscious heap, a trail of blood seeping from her nose and right ear. The lights in the office seemed to flicker and surge as a strange glow seemed to rise off of the child. The master of the strange voice showed itself. It appeared to be a creature of pure energy. As the creature stood there, it motioned with it's clawed hand at the door, pushing the door with such force, it shattered and left the hinges slamming Madam Godfrey against the wall and rendering her unconscious.-
"Liar. Those fish people are after Sevvy too!, She told me so! That's why she had to... had to hurt them! And.. Why wouuld you go alone? No one wants to be alone!'
"Not everyone is after Sevvy.. I stopped killing after the war, I abandoned that practice.." He said but the voice interjected.
"Dont let him sway you, Child. It was his kind who forced my kind into oblivion. The Time Lords nearly destroyed The Nothing. You know I am the last and now he has come to make us extinct! Kill him!! KILL HIM, YVIE! And Let me FEAST upon his glow!
"Don't listen to it Yvie, you have that power, just ignore it. Children are not meant to be made into weapons." He said, more of to the voice, "If you want me dead then.. do it yourself." He said, not to the child, he did not believe in making children into weapons. The head mistress walked into the room to just be knocked out, He struggled out of the chair and looked to the little girl, who was on her knees.
"Oh my sweet Yvie.. So much still to learn.. If we are to coexist, you must learn to obey.. Close your eyes, child.."
"Don't listen to it!" He yelled but it was too late. But the creature was now showing itself. He has not seen anything like this.. not in a long time, almost too long.
"Do you know me.. Time Lord?" she hissed at The Nomad. He could tell there was a hint of an insult and anger in that voice.
The Time Lord shook his head, "I have never met you." He said, "But I have met some of your kind.. not exactly friendly." Reaching into his pocket he got out a handkerchief and tied it around his wound, that will at least slow down the bleeding... at least it should. Looking back to her, "You are not the only one that is the last of your kind." Granted he did not know if others have survived but the only other Time Lords he knew survived were The Cutthroat and The Phantom. Other then them, well Time Lords are practically extinct.
"I have never met you." He said, "But I have met some of your kind.. not exactly friendly." Reaching into his pocket he got out a handkerchief and tied it around his wound, that will at least slow down the bleeding... at least it should. Looking back to her, "You are not the only one that is the last of your kind."
-if the creature had a mouth, it would have sneered at The Nomad. It motioned with it's ethereal arms and little Yvie's unconscious body was lifted and placed into the oversize chair. Sevaros trailed what could only be assumed to be fingers through Yvie's hair, almost affectionately. -
"Cant have my perfect vessel getting damaged, now can we. As for you, Nomad.... I believe we are beyond the petty attempts to make one feel sorry for the other. Friendly is the least of my concerns. I require a pure source of energy so I can leave this desolate wasteland these mongrels call a planet. Your life essence for example. And I assume you have a Tardis? The life energy of your ship will be more than enough to send us on our way"
-and suddenly the lights in the office and the hallway flickered as if losing power as Sevaros closed in on The Nomad, it's talon like fingers clutching his throat, not cutting off air but pinching his jugular vein to slow the flow to his brain. She planned to drag out his death to savor the taste of his anguish-
"Cant have my perfect vessel getting damaged, now can we. As for you, Nomad.... I believe we are beyond the petty attempts to make one feel sorry for the other. Friendly is the least of my concerns.
He watched as the Nothing seemed to stroke 'her' fingers through the child's hair, The Nomad reached into his pocket and popped something into his mouth, maybe it was a pain killer to take the pain away. But he had something else in his hand, hidden away, "I thought you would say that.. you are just like the Daleks Sevarus, You destroy and destroy yet you are never satisfied." He replied.
I require a pure source of energy so I can leave this desolate wasteland these mongrels call a planet. Your life essence for example. And I assume you have a Tardis? The life energy of your ship will be more than enough to send us on our way"
"Sorry but.. my ship is well hidden and.. your presence has more than likely caused her to leave her last location, meaning even I have to go on a searching spree." He pocketed what ever it was, that appeared to be a canister, and lifted his hands, "Besides.. you need my hands just to get her turned on." He gave the Nothing a cheeky grin.
His grin was erased however -and suddenly the lights in the office and the hallway flickered as if losing power as Sevaros closed in on The Nomad, it's talon like fingers clutching his throat, not cutting off air but pinching his jugular vein to slow the flow to his brain. She planned to drag out his death to savor the taste of his anguish-
But before he could do anything its fingers were around his throat, his free hand was grasping at what would have been 'her' wrist. He dropped the canister; which slowly secreted its contents, The Nomad was starting to see things were going dark, he hoped that the canister would release faster but he did not exactly want 'her' to figure out what he is waiting for, "What do you plan to do when there are.. no other Time Lords or stars to consume? There will be nothing then." He told her.
-Sevaros paused. as if the thought had never occurred to her. The pressure on his throat wavered, but only for a moment as her claws pressed deeper. Those pale glowing orbs what were obviously her eyes narrowed, the first show of expression the strange entity's face had shown since revealing itself.. And again, the grip loosened. Sevaros seemed to be having a battle of decisions inside her head. Kill him and savor the immense power he would unleash as he tried to regenerate, or hold off living off the child's psychic abilities. -
"And what would you have me do? Starve? No, Time Lord. This is what I am.. This is what I must be."
Her colors seemed to be fading into a black sheen. It was as though she was losing her potency and her energy like form was turning solid.
"And the Dalek are fools. They would destroy any unlike themselves. They tried to... 'Exterminate' me and failed. All of existence must return to the darkness. That is all there can be. If not by my hand then by another. "
-and she grasped him once more and hoisted him into the air by his throat, a sound that could only be described as a wild beast snarling as she threw him against the wall. She had not noticed the item he had dropped and began to close on him again, preparing her next assault
as the time lord hit the wall, Yvie's eyes weakly opened, she had been conscious the whole time, but without Sevaros, she became ill. her forehead and cheeks turned scarlet as she burned with fever and her whole body trembled as if freezing cold. Yvie weakly reached her arm out, not to Sevaros, but to The Nomad, whispering weakly-
The Time Lord gasped for air as the Nothing's grasp weakened some but came back stronger, causing The Nomad to pathetically gasp for air. ""And what would you have me do? Starve? No, Time Lord. This is what I am.. This is what I must be."
The Nomad could see that the substance in the can was causing her to weaken, just a little more, but he did not want to kill this.. Nothing though, but if he had to he will, "Just leave the child.. I will.. Take you.. somewhere else.." He said between gasps for air.
"And the Dalek are fools. They would destroy any unlike themselves. They tried to... 'Exterminate' me and failed. All of existence must return to the darkness. That is all there can be. If not by my hand then by another. "
"And you think that you are better than them?" The Time Lord said, "Return to the darkness? That was what the Daleks tried to do! That is why the Time Lords went to war with them, to stop them from doing that.. but we both lost.. You are no better than the Daleks. You are just as cruel as the Time Lords and Daleks." He added in. He gasped loudly when she grasped him by the throat again, making a sound that was hard to describe and threw him at the wall. It was no where near a soft landing, it was enough to maybe crack or even break a few ribs.
Crumbling to the floor The Nomad groaned, then looked at the child, she was not looking well at all, rather sickly looking. Looking to Sevaros he got up and stumbled over to Yvie.
He placed a hand on her forehead, "Oh.. you got the flu.." He said but then realized that she probably had to have this Nothing with her, with in her.
-Sevaros began to slow, her every move seeming to take great effort. Rage seemed to glow in her eyes as she began to realize he had dome something to cause this. Her resolve did not waver, however as she continued to advance on him.-
"Dont pretend to understand. Everything must return to nothing. Even the Nothing. It is what we are. Nothing... Not even The Nothing can remain."
-and Sevaros now seemed to become visably ill as her form shuddered and trembled. The black skin began to crack and pull away like a reptile shedding it's skin, revealing the pure energy within. The glow was not like the energy of her body before. It was a bright golden glow, with a thousand crying voices coming from the break.
The glow was one a Time Lord could easily recognize.. The glow of a Regenerating Time lord was trying to seep out, escape. But it was more than that within. The Nomad could see dying stars and the distinct whir of a fallen Tardis.
This Nothing was responsible for all those deaths, the energy was absorbed and stored. Those boney fingers came to clutch at her chest to try and keep the energy from pouring out. Her eyes then turned to Yvie as she lay there trembling. They were both dying. Sevaros had been outside of the child for too long and both were beginning to suffer the effect. -
*sigh* "Such is the fate of a symbiotic existence.. Alone, we wither and die, but as one, we thrive.."
-and she knelt over Yvie. The child weakly protested the creature's touch. This was not the same behavior as before. Yvie had been so desperate to keep Sevaros safe that she lashed out at anyone just for touching her... But this Yvie was afriad of Sevaros.
Tears were welling in the child's eyes as she looked desperately to The Nomad before Sevaros took the child in her arms and shattering into tiny particles of energy, forced their way into the child though the nose, mouth, eyes, and ears. Almost immediately, the child's temperature lowered the color in her cheeks returned to normal. Those glassy green eyes opened and she sat up and stretched as if waking from a well deserved nap-
"I see she let you live.. It's not in her nature to be to... accommodating."
-the sad and terrified look in her eyes was gone as she glared at The Nomad-
"Dont pretend to understand. Everything must return to nothing. Even the Nothing. It is what we are. Nothing... Not even The Nothing can remain."
"Oh I understand Sevaros." The Nomad said from where he was, still looking to the weakening child, he figured it was a symbiotic relationship, both needed each other to survive, so as long as this Nothing needed the child, the child needed the Nothing, "How can you say that you say, being Nothing, you are existing, mass genocide is not right Sevaros, life will find a way to start again and it will. You can't stop that Sevaros." He took a deep breath, "Even stars are reborn from the dust and ashes of another star." He reminded The Nothing.
He looked at all the energy that was hidden within 'her', the Time Lord could hear all the death cries of Time Lords and TARDIS's that she absorb so 'she' can live. His gas canister was what was doing this to The Nothing, but he wished that he hadn't for some reason.
*sigh* "Such is the fate of a symbiotic existence.. Alone, we wither and die, but as one, we thrive.." And with that The Nothing was back within the child, The Nomad thought this was all over, maybe with The Nothing having to rest it will leave him alone long enough to recover. But a look at the child's cold eyes told him something else all together.
But there was nothing he can do to defend himself now, as he was in a exhausted.. and his body badly damaged, the Time Lord found it hard to even breath, perhaps he was dying now. He hoped not right now, because then The Nothing will come out or use the child to finish him off, which she is likely to do now, and take his regeneration energy. Taking a Time Lord's regeneration energy means permanent death for a Time Lord, The Nomad went to planning how to avoid that. Putting his hand in his pocket he found his fob watch, even a little energy can help a Time Lord partially or fully regenerate. Opening it he put some of his regeneration energy that was starting to flow through him into the watch and sealed the watch good and tight.
Flopping his hand out of his pocket he looked to the child, "I know that you two have a relationship that you have to have in order to survive but that does not mean you have to do what she says for you to do child."
