Zoe Heriot could be described in a numerous amount of ways. Curious, stubborn, hard-headed, insistent, and proud. Sure, those were all pretty much the same thing, but they were better than “emotionless robot” or “tenacious genius”. She had been called many names by the crew of The Wheel when she was the librarian's assistant. Then, the Doctor and Jamie had come along, and she was able to use her mathematical genius to something more than the Dewey system.
Just as quickly as they had come, so had the Cybermen, and after that, they left. It was an undramatic end to a dramatic meeting. She had convinced herself that she didn't need him. Still, she kept wondering why she didn't go. It was in her nature to explore. So why not then? She still had dreams about going with them, sometimes, although she refused to admit it.
Anyway, out of the list of things people could call her, a 'nature-lover' was not one. So it was completely out of her character to traipse along in the wild dredges of the (not thick) forest. She was on a mission to find a certain type of caterpillar for her science project. The sixteen year old girl heaved a sigh and continued going, notepad in hand and a frown on her lips.
Near where Zoe was happened to be a large structure. The structure was big and sleek and metallic more so than that of the Tardis. The structure seemed empty from the windows on the place as a man came out of it all the sudden and approached Zoe. Pulling out a scanner, he scanned her and decided a gift was in order. Her memories were going to be returned but not all at once. So he pulled out a device and handed it to her.
"I offer you the chance of a life time Zoe Heriot, a chance to obtain the memories you lost. In exchange you will help me locate and abduct the Tardis from the Doctor so I can study it. What do you say about that? Are you ready for another adventure? I understand if you are not interested, and if you aren't I'll erase the rest of your memories of the doctor and your memories of myself. "
Savor waited for the response of Zoe to see how much he was going to have to do to ensure her cooperation.
And instead of a caterpillar, she found a raving lunatic. Zoe took an uncertain step back, watching as he scanned with her some sort of device. She widened her eyes as he handed her something, holding it at arms' length. If this was going to explode, she would rather risk her arms instead of her head. She took a look around, debating on the quickest way to get to civilization where a lunatic couldn't drag her off without someone noticing.
...Zoe Heriot...
The crazy man knew her name. This was not a good sign. She stared distrustfully at his scanner. She did have an identification tag under her skin for when she had worked for the Wheel. There was a way that he was able to access her name with it – although they had assured her that it was on a private encryption, that didn't mean anything to the modern day hacker.
A chance to obtain the memories she had lost? Adventures? The TARDIS and the Doctor?
“Look,” she said evenly, taking another step back. “I don't know how you know all this about me, but I've got all my memories. Thank you for your concern, though. I do like adventures, but I think you've got the wrong person. I've only met the Doctor once, and I don't know anything about a TARDIS.”
"You will forgive me in a few days for this Zoe, but you are COMING with me and you will help me find the Doctor and his craft that allows him to time travel, the Tardis."
Savor pulled out a rubix cube like device and threw it at her feet. If it worked, the device would surround her in an invulnerable from the inside force shield. So she would be stuck, and if it did work Savor walked over and started to push the sphere with her inside into his base.
It was time to get the readings on the energy emissions of the Tardis and use those to help him locate it. Savor then pulled out another device from his pocket composing a phony email from her parents getting her out of school and saying she was going to visit an uncle. This email was sent and so the problem was now resolved of that issue anyway.
"Now, let's see about those readings shall we?" The sphere dissipated, but he'd trap her in an energy construct after donning his armor and strap her down on a metal gurney.
By the time she realized that she needed to get the hell out of dodge, it was already too late and she was stuck in a force field. She glared at him. There was no way that she would forgive him in 'a few days', much less a year. Zoe didn't take very kindly to being kidnapped, especially not when mysterious and dangerous strangers were involved. She looked around critically, trying to find any sort of marking on the device to see if she could place it.
She tried to dig her feet down or do anything to stop from being forced inside the base. She was trapped, and it was not a feeling that suited well with her. “My professors know I was out here. They'll come looking for me,” she argued.
Once inside the base, he transferred her to a gurney. A gurney. She violently thrashed, panic rising. She was just a child prodigy with a serious lack of understanding others' emotions – she wasn't some sort of Doctor chasing and time travelling studier. It was impossible. The Doctor didn't travel in time. He couldn't.
He couldn't.
Readings?
“Stop! Stop it! I'll help you! I've only met him once, though. Just let me off this thing!”
"I actually took care of the issue of your professors, they believe you to be now with an uncle. You are excused from school for the next year anyway thanks to my efforts. You've only met the doctor once? Well then I don't have to take the readings, it wouldn't work." Savor pushed a button and the door to the base would close as the shackles binding her to the gurney were deactivated. "Now let's see about some of those memories once more. Hold still." Savor went over to a lot of his tools and pulled out the one he was looking for, a device meant to restore memories. It was a headband. Gently approaching her he slid the headband onto her head. This was only going to restore about 2 memories this time, a good start. While her memories were being restored, Savor went through his equipment. "No, outdated...too powerful...ah here it is."
Savor took out what appeared to be a set of fingerless gloves and approached her, them in hand. "Here...These gloves are one of my inventions and have some capabilities that will assist you."
Perfect. She had been kidnapped, and her professors wouldn't be worried. None of her professors were close enough to her to know that she wasn't close with her family – they didn't understand her, and she didn't understand them. But even a mythical uncle would be better than a psychopath. Zoe stared at him mistrustfully. Once the shackles were released, she shot up, rubbing her arms and giving him her best glare.
Zoe crossed her arms as he approached her with the headband, ready to run as fast as her little legs could carry her. The doors had already closed, and she didn't know her way around, but it'd be better than being a sitting duck. She winced as he put the headband on her. “Why do you want the Doctor anyway?”
Speaking of the Doctor, she was starting to see bits and pieces. Like from her dream; a dusty planet with rocks, an old man, helping drill a hole to intercept a bomb. She rubbed her head, frowning. She took the gloves from him carefully. “Assist me? Assist me in what? I still don't understand what you think you're going to be able to get from me! I met the Doctor once. He wouldn't remember me.”
"You likely know the inside of his craft the Tardis do you not? And you say he would not remember you? Why is that per say? Those gloves I gave you have some unique capabilities. They can form an energy weapon suited to your tastes. They can also fire energy blasts and project a shield in front of you. I am going to assist you in becoming strong enough and smart enough so you might survive."
Savor leapt over to a console performing a jump more than any human had ever been capable of. "Let's get down to business. You need to learn to defend yourself. The world is cruel and harsh. So let's start on the easiest setting to see what you have. " Savor pushed a button on the console and a battle drone rose out of the ground. "If the electric prod touches any part of your body, it will be paralyzed for 2 minutes. Are you ready?" Savor was much stronger than a normal human, due to his Narrikian heritage. Soon he might have an apprentice ready and be able to deal with the threat coming. Earth needed champions and it was not his place to intervene directly. It was best if a warrior came from Earth itself to defend it. Still nothing prohibited him from training the defender of Earth. Music stolen from a certain movie of Earth began to play.
“What? No! I've never been in the Tardis,” she argued, holding her hands up defensively. This guy was asking way too many questions. “We only met for a short amount of time. I'd be surprised if he remembered the Wheel at all!” Zoe pressed herself against a wall away from him, staring at the gloves as he proclaimed that it was some sort of weapon. The Doctor told her not to fight – when she was working with someone... Cully? But that must have been a dream, because she only met him on the Wheel.
Smart enough? She glared at him, put off by his presumptuous attitude towards her IQ.
He grabbed her attention again by jumping over to the console. He definitely wasn't human, which didn't ease her fears at all. She was going to be whisked away by some stranger who came from the nether regions of space. “Defend myself against what? Crazy lunatics who kidnap little girls?” she snapped. “I've dealt with Cybermen!”
And to put icing on the proverbial cake, a battle drone was thrown into the mixture. “Are you out of your mind?! I'm an astrophysicist! I'm a maths major. I don't know the first thing about fighting!”
Savor pushed a button on the console and the battle drone descended back into the ground to re-charge as he considered her words. She thought he was a lunatic and a kidnapper. Far from it, he had saved her as he had detected one of the aliens who was definitely responsible for the doom of his planet in the forest. It had been one of the reasons he had arrived there. So with that, he leaped once more landing near her without making a single quake. Removing the headband, he leaped again and put it on the charger.
"Okay then. If you believe yourself to be so smart here...Also, I am not crazy, or a lunatic. I saved your life back there, you just don't realize it yet."
Tools and a table rose out of the ground near her with incomplete versions of the gloves he had given her on them. "These are an incomplete version. You have an hour to complete them. In the mean time, what is your favorite food?"
As the drone descended, she let out a sigh of relief. Maybe he was coming to his senses? She looked out hopefully towards the door, expecting it to rise. 'Oh, Zoe, sorry, I mistook you for another girl' or 'Oh, Zoe, I'm dreadfully sorry; I think I've been off my medication for too long'. Instead, he jumped towards her. She flinched, preparing for death. Instead, the headband was removed and he jumped away again.
“Not crazy or a lunatic?” she asked drily. “You have surely put my fears at ease.” Zoe put her hands on her hips again, raising an eyebrow at him. “So you saved my life by trapping me, forcing me into your ship, and then planning to paralyze with some sort of deranged battle creature?”
She sighed, watching as the table and tools rose from the ground. “I don't think you understood me. I said I was an astrophysicist and maths major. Not a mad scientist who creates lethal weapons from gloves. And what makes you think I'd eat anything you make? I'm being held hostage!”
Zoe stared at him, then looked pointedly at the doors. “I think we're having a failure to communicate. I was in the forest, looking for my next thesis topic,” she explained slowly. “I just want to go home, okay? I won't call the police, I won't even tell my professors anything. I'll just tell him the whole uncle thing didn't work out.”
Savor thought about it and pulled out a device and handed it to her after a moment's hesitation. She did not want to be here, it was not right to force her to remain here. The device he had given her was an alarm that would if she was attacked tell him right away. Savor pushed a button and a holographic screen appeared near her. "Since you still believe me to be crazy, let's watch what happened to my planet shall we?"
Savor pushed a button and the video began to play. A strange purple fog had hit his planet killing thousands of soldiers, as alien invaders with more soldiers in gas masks deployed to his planet. The scientists rounded up people and technology and chose him to go to Earth, as they used an experimental technology, the Null Zone device to put them all into another dimension in stasis. The device misfired, and killed most of them except for him as he rocketed in stasis towards the planet Earth.
"Now you see how my planet died. One of those creatures was in the forest, so I killed it before it could lay a hand on you."
Zoe took the device hesitantly. She looked at the screen, feeling a little anxious. “It's nothing personal,” she told him. “But you did kidnap me.” She put the device in her pocket, making a mental note to study it later.
She had a feeling she wasn't going to like what happened to his planet. Why would he show her if it had been pleasant? At first, she wasn't sure what she was watching – towers with purple fog, and it would have been pretty but for the corpses on the streets. She watched as creatures with gas masks infiltrated – and she was reminded of something, of being enslaved and kidnapped by robots and strange men.
Zoe looked down at her feet, uncomfortable. Even if this man's planet had been destroyed by strange creatures, what right did that give him to force her into something? She was just an astrophysicist with a prodigal gift for numbers. Her professors agreed – she was destined for great discoveries in math and space.
Not being some intergalactic bouncer.
“Thank you,” Zoe said. “I wish I could help you, but I'm just a student.”
Savor then pushed the next button showing an Infra-Red scan of the area behind Zoe on the holographic screen when she had been in the forest. One of those creatures, the ones with the gas masks had been leaning and about to attack her. However, by pulling her inside, Savor had rescued her. "There is why I pulled you inside. The device I just gave you, an alarm. It is set to act as a sensor as well alerting me to the presence of any of those creatures if they come near you. " Savor walked to another part of his lab, after beckoning for her to follow him to it. "Come on, the tour isn't over yet."
Zoe felt her stomach drop a little as she looked at the creature that had been behind her. “Thank you,” she said again, feeling guilty because she accused him of being a psychopathic murderer-kidnapper. “Why would you give it to me? Why not someone who is more willing to help you?” she inquired, following him. “I keep telling you. I can't help you find the Doctor. I wouldn't know the first thing to look; I don't know him.”
